Title: Too Many Vampires...
Description: Just a theory...

Am I the only one who's currently being irritated all to hell with all the over-hype of vampires in the media recently? With Vampire Diaries, True Blood, New Moon... Everything that's been revolving around Robert and Tyler, all the teeny-boppers who squeal at the mention of one of them or of Stefan or whatever.
Am I the only one who wants to strangle these people?
Am I the only one who thinks that this is REALLY why it seems like no one is ever on and we aren't getting any new members?
Eh... Sorry... Just ranting and since this is a vampire site I figured it was appropriate...

It is getting pretty annoying...Especially the Twilight stuff. Seriously, vampires that can not only go out into the sun but actually sparkle in the sunlight? That's just a ton of crap...*sigh*...
But, yes, I'd like to strangle them too. Especially my roommate...
Do you really think that would stop people from joining though? It could be, but...Well, it makes sense, I guess. Never really thought of that.

Well just the overkill of vampires in the media could get the more serious RPers away from such things because they don't want to seem cliche, or they might think without looking that this is like a Twilight fan-rp thing.
But that's just my theory.
After all, I've talked to a couple people who haven't been on recently about not really feeling inspired to be on here cause their sick of all the vamp stuff everywhere.

Ah, that sucks...
Ironically, it was acyually all the vampire stuff that made me want to come back and do something involving REAL vampires.

You're definitely not alone in being sick and tired of it, Wolfie. Twilight is the one that really gets to me. I've read the first book and some of New Moon, and simply do not understand why it has such a cult following.
True Blood is on my good list; I've read some of the books, and watched the show, and it, at least, showcases vampires the way they're meant to be, and has some original ideas without completely butchering vampire mythology. I haven't experienced anything other than commercials for Vampire Diaries, but it doesn't look like anything special. Particularly since it was published in the early 90s or thereabouts, so the author is clearly just taking advantage of the rabid vampire following right now, and likely wouldn't have been able to sell the idea to a studio pre-Twilight.
And, I have felt for some time that the emergence of Twilight hype is why we aren't getting any new members in. Though I'm also pretty thankful that I haven't had to deal with anybody trying to join with a Twilight vampire. <_< *shifty eyes* On the other hand, it could be kind of therapeutic to take out all my Twilighter frustration on an unsuspecting fan. :heh:

Lol. Can I watch, Marcus? :P
I actually haven't seen Twilight or any of the others. I didn't know about True Blood, actually...but are you serious? They literally sparkle? I thought that was a metaphor or something. O_o
I know that there are some mythologies that claim vampires or vampire-like creatures/beings can walk in sunlight, just as there are those that claim they don't have fangs. *Shrug.* Those ideas would be interesting in an RP if the site set the rules properly and was half-way decent overall, and if the writing was decent, but they're not mainstream ideas - or from the sound of things, at least they weren't before Twilight.
Personally, I'm just sick of hearing how much people hate it. If people hate it that much, why is it still being talked about? On the other hand, if it's so fucking popular, I can understand why people might not want to join this board: either they think it's Twilight and run the other way, or they find out it's not Twilight and they run the other way.
From the sound of things, though, Twilight seems to give vampires a bad name. >_> This ain't Disneyland, kiddies. >.<
And LOL @ the vid. :P

No, they really sparkle... That's not a 'metaphor' -.-
But other than the actual vampires the stories are good. I mean it's not that I don't like them, I'm just sick of all the hype.
I know there are so many different myths about vampires, but Twilight's the only place that sun doesn't weaken/kill them... I mean I could understand if it didn't hurt them, but sparkle? Meh... Kinda weird.
But oh man! That movie was awesome! The only thing it was missing really was Lestat or Louise from Interview. But it was great ^.^ They even had the Count! XD
And I caught a bit of Vampire Diaries the TV show.... And it sucks, not in the good vampire way, but SUCKS... I've read the books and though very... Un-detailed and basic they were better. The TV show pretty much only uses the idea of the characters (They don't even get the main human girl right, she's supposed to be BLOND and not black haired... But that's just one minor issue...) But it was so horrible and off the book I could only watch like... 3 minutes of it. -.-
But the books of Twilight aren't all that bad Kira. I mean they're no Harry Potter or anything, but they're a decent read if you don't mind romance. And weak pathetic women who can't defend themselves and are totally wishy-washy lol. THose are my two biggest complaints about the series, odd vampire style and Bella... I think the character is too.... Weak I guess? Two delicate and fragile to be mixed up in a world like that. She's no Buffy that's for sure...

In a way, I can see why the books are so addicting. The author has gone to great pains to make sure that everyone knows that Bella is just your average, every day girl with nothing special about her whatsoever (vs. Buffy, for example, who does have something innately special about her along with seeming ordinary). With the books written in first-person, it's easy for all the average, every day girls out there to pretend that they're Bella, with this "dangerous" and really attractive, really special man that wants only them. That much, I understand, and even fell under the spell of myself, albeit slightly.
What bothers me most about the books is that you have this generation of young readers growing up thinking that Twilight is the be-all and end-all of "good" vampire novels, when it is approaching the farthest thing from it (I saw a novel called Vampirates once...I'm sure that one's worse >.>). They'll have this impression that anybody else who will write, or has written, about vampires has got it all wrong as to what they're supposed to be like and how they're supposed to act.
I'm also irritated because I saw a quote from Meyer in "The Everything Vampire Book" or something like that, that pretty much said, "I wanted to write stories for young adults that didn't have all that violence and sex in them." My immediate thought: "Then why in the hell did you write about vampires?!" So yeah. <_< I know they're not all bad, Wolfie, but as you've said, they definitely don't deserve the hype.
