Description: Ahh... Led Zeppelin references...

So, I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and if you've been watching the news, you probably know what I'm about to say. The flood of 2008 is rockin' my world. I'm going to go downtown and sandbag for a while. My mum's house is flooded so while I'm helping my fellow citizens, I'm also going to be helping out my parents. I have taken a lot of footage of the flood and have planned to make a video, which I will post on here if anybody is interested. I probably wont be on for a while, which isn't really that big of a deal anyway. What I'm really saying is if there is anything that you all can do, even if you live in Florida or something like that, we need help here in the midwest. If you like your foods from General Mills and Quaker Oats, then that might be a big incentive to help out because their origins are located in this city. Donations to the Red Cross, United Way, even prayer from whatever religion you come from is appreciated. We need all the help we can get. Thanks!

As a guy that lives in Florida I just thought it important to say that we're thinking about you guys. I know it isn't much to say that, but its true. I know pleanty of people with family in your area and everywhere you turn there are Red Cross drop offs. Basically I just wanted to tell you to keep your spirits up and not to forget that as bad as it might seem, you're not alone.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I really do. Even getting calls from people that are so far detached from it to make sure we're okay is great. Appie called me from Connecticut because she was so worried about me. She lives in New Mexico, but still. Hah.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm not in the bad parts of the city, as both of my parents live on hills on opposite sides of the city from each other, so I actually think this is kind of cool. Like I said, I've taken a lot of footage, and will be posting it up once I get the chance (I don't have my personal laptop with me otherwise I'd do that now). I've been hungry to volunteer the last two days but everywhere I go they are either finished or have an abundance of volunteers already.

The city that I go to college in, Iowa City, has had a levy break for real and is getting our backwash, so they've got the worst of it now. It's only about 20 miles south of here, but they will be shutting down the interstate in about an hour for a week and the detour is 280 miles out of the way. So not only can I not go to where my heart most belongs and help out my fellow Hawkeyes, I can't leave Cedar Rapids at all really to visit my loved ones while I wait for the volunteer people to get back to me.

*groans* I believe I am beginning to Ramble On (haha! gotta let the Led out) so I'm gonna go for now. Thanks everyone for your love and concerns! Rock out with your Hawk out!

Well, I never got around to sandbagging, but I got hooked up with the Red Cross and have been working at one of the shelters they have here for the last 3 days. Today is my last day before a break. It'll be my 3rd 12 hour shift, although on saturday I left an hour early. Things are getting better, but we still have a few months worth of recovery. As far as I've heard we've only had once casualty that may or may not be directly caused by this flood. Anyway, I'm sitting in Panera freezing my ass off and my shift starts in an hour so I better get going. Got a 30 minute drive ahead of me. Bye all!
