Title: Following the Beat
Description: For Darkie's Alex.

Bloodied Flesh - January 17, 2008 11:39 PM (GMT)
As usual, the pounding of the music and the close-knit web of bodies was a welcome sight to the young vampire that walked in with a smile and a pair of large, squarish sunglasses. Her low-cut spaghetti-string silk shirt flashed in what little light was available in the club and her miniskirt showed off plenty of leg as she stepped down the stairs into the club in her open-foot high heels. She screamed red for more than the long red curls done up into a high ponytail flanked by four long braids and her red-painted finger and toe nails were hardly noticed. Her wallet was somewhere safe and unseen by anyone looking at her. What was seen, though, were the diamond-studded stars hanging from her petite ears, the gorgeous rings on her fingers and the shining bracelets on her wrists that made a combined effort to draw attention to her lovely hands. All in all, it was clear this was a beautiful woman even without the jewelry; the jewelry just helped to accentuate her look.

It wasn't long before Colleen was gyrating her hips and moving her feet and doing a very sexy dance right along with the rest of the crowd. She knew she was being watched by several men nearby, but so were the dozen or so other women surrounding her. She winked at a couple of men and grinned all the while. A few men came up to her and danced right along with her. One of these seemed to be particularly interested in her, but she playfully pushed him away with a teasing laugh. She continued dancing, letting the music and the beat take over her body, engulf her soul, and make her mind pulsate with the sounds and feelings of the sensuality that was dancing...

Darkasian - January 18, 2008 03:33 AM (GMT)
The night club...definitely one of Alex's favorite joints. It made him feel alive, and almost human. A recent drink gave the vampire a reddish hue and warmth that wouldn't last the night. He was Enashe so he had a bigger advantage to playing human. He missed being human, being able to age.

He wore a navy blue dress shirt with the top two buttons undone showing off the collar he wore around his neck. The shirt was a little tight around the shoulders showing that he had some muscle underneath it. He wasn't exactly a big man, but he was toned. A pair of tight blue jeans showed off his legs. They were tight enough that you weren't sure whether he was wearing anything underneath it or not. He always liked to be kind of mysterious, especially when it came to down there.

Alex was at the bar drinking a poor excuse for a beer, and enjoying the sights and sounds of the club. Then he caught the scent of a fellow nightwalker, and looked around spotting a girl that screamed red. She was definitely attractive, and after a few months of being away from Eire, he just hadn't been in the mood to date anybody. Well he loved her and he was kind of dumped, but he was alright with it. It took him a while to get over it, but he protected her all the same.

Finishing off the beer he paid the bartender for two Sam Adam's. Grabbing one bottle in each hand Alex started wading through the crowd towards the redhead. She seemed to have something that the other girls in the club didn't have. He didn't have a word for it, but he wanted to meet her. "Want a drink?" He half yelled over the music offering the beer to the redhead. "The name's Alex." He said with a bright smile.

Bloodied Flesh - January 18, 2008 03:54 AM (GMT)
"Not my kind of drink," she replied. Then she grinned. "But I guess I'm open to try new things."

She looked him up and down and raised an eyebrow. Now this one was definitely her type. Superman he was not, but he at least had the looks.

"Lead the way, Romeo," she said cheerily.

Darkasian - January 18, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
Alex smiled as she said it wasn't her kind of drink. "Beer is never anybody's kind of drink. It's an acquired taste." He said as he watched her look him up and down. From this distance he could tell that she was a vampire, not exactly as old as he was, but definitely not newly turned.

"Come this way Juliet." He said offering the crook of his arm to the lady. Alex led her to an empty table away from all the music so they could talk without yelling too loudly. "So how're you doing this evening?" He asked before taking a swig of beer and letting out a sigh. It was his second one.

Bloodied Flesh - January 18, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
((You do realize we don't have to shout to be heard, right? We're not mortals. XD))

She took his arm, smiling. What a gentleman. She'd have to change that. She laughed mentally at the thought. She had such a dirty mind sometimes...

She sat down and crossed her left leg over her right. She took a small sip of the beer and tried not to make too much of a face. Much too bitter for her. But if they had some Cabernet Sauvignon or a nice Merlot would be good.

"I'm good. I love dancing," she said with a grin. "It's my passion."

She smiled apologetically at the cutie across from her as she caught a waiter and asked for a glass of wine. The waiter nodded and said, "Yes, ma'am." Then he was on his way. The waiter was kind of cute, too. She wondered when he got off. Finally, though, she turned back to the one who'd invited her to the table in the first place.

"So, how about yourself? Enjoying the music? Or just the scenery?" she asked with a knowing smile and an amused flicker of laughter in her beautiful blue eyes.

Darkasian - January 18, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
OOC: *shrugs* He's accustomed to playing mortal.

Alex sat down reclining back in the seat. By the table was much quieter than the dance floor, and he sighed pushing a stray hair behind his ear. He couldn't help but laugh as the vampiress made a face after taking a sip of the beer. "Told you it was an acquired taste." He said taking a big swig of his and letting out a sigh.

"I'm not much of a dancer." He said with a big grin. "It usually ends up with me looking like I'm having a seizure." Alex laughed. He wasn't a good dancer at all, though he could've probably gotten lessons or something. Dancing definitely wasn't his thing. "Though I do somehow manage to get the ladies looking." He said as he scanned the crowd and caught a few girls looking their way.

Alex smiled as the girl across the table asked a waiter for a wine. "Hmmmm...Maybe a cognac?" He paused for a second thinking. "No I'd say you like a good merlot." He said before taking another swig of the beer. The only real way to drink beer was to finish it as quickly as possible, well for him it was. He usually liked hard liquor, but he knew his wine.

"Oh I enjoy the music, but I enjoy the scenery even more." He raised his beer bottle to no one in particular. "It reminds me of what I lost a long time ago, though some would say I desperately cling to it." There was no reason to specify what he was talking about. She'd know what he had lost. It was the same thing with all of their kind. Well some kept clinging on to their humanity, but he was one that accepted it, and simply tried to blend in. "May I ask the name of the lady who doesn't enjoy the piss that is beer?" He asked with a slight grin.

Bloodied Flesh - January 19, 2008 06:22 AM (GMT)
"Colleen. And yours, my gentlemanly host?"

Her wine came quickly - a Cabernet Sauvignon - and she thanked the waiter with a smile as she took it. She sipped it and savored the taste a bit. A small sigh of pleasure escaped her lips. She wasn't surprised they had such an expensive wine, though; after all, she'd paid them generously to keep it on hand - anonymously, of course. It had drawn a slightly wealthier clientele to the club, but it had also provided Colleen and certain business associates she'd acquired aliases and such from a place to get some good music and better wine. Besides, it was a good cover for a blood business she'd invested in a few years ago - transporting stolen blood from all over the world to Demaitre for those vampires who used it to survive. Mostly unadjusted vampires, of course, but it was a prosperous business. Thus, she'd essentially killed two birds with one stone - which, naturally, had made her a lot of friends in the vampire community.

Darkasian - January 19, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
"Colleen?" He thought for a second. Naw she couldn't be the one who was running blood running business. Though then again the distinct scent of the wine made him think for another second. "I'm Alex Laurence." He offered his hand to shake.

He'd heard about a vampire who started a business of transporting blood to Demaitre, but he figured that she wouldn't be the vampiress in front of him. Another whiff of the wine and he knew that it was one of the more expensive wines. "How long have you been in Demaitre?" He asked his voice low enough that only she could hear him. Now he was in the mode to talk to other vampires. It took a little effort, since he'd been spending a lot more time around mortals, but it was like riding a bike, you never really forgot.

Bloodied Flesh - January 20, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
"Long enough," she said seriously.

All her life, actually. She'd been born here, after all, but that was hardly relevant. She'd come and gone from time to time, as most people did. The fact that she was here now was only a matter of fate. All people returned to their hometowns eventually.

Her voice was lower even than his, if that was possible. She was good at being who and what she was, regardless of her mortal ties.

"You?"

She sipped her wine.

Darkasian - January 20, 2008 12:44 AM (GMT)
Alex nodded as Colleen answered his question. "That's a pretty long time for us." He said with a soft sigh and a deep chug of beer letting out another sigh of finishing off the bottle. Beer was piss compared to most other alcohols, but he enjoyed it to an extent. It was the only real alcohol he had access to when he was mortal.

He leaned back in his seat and tapped his chin thoughtfully. "I've been here a few years, about five or six I'd have to say." Alex looked through the amber bottle at the vampiress and smiled as it gave her an amber glow. Everything through a beer bottle was amber. "I've done a lot of travelling in my time, and I figured it'd be a nice change to settle down here." The words coming out of his mouth sounded kind of strange. He looked eighteen but he had the experience of living for two hundred something years. After a while it kind of got tiresome with all the travelling. "I'm originally from the U.S., New Haven Connecticut."

"What do you do for a living Colleen?" He asked with a slight grin as he placed the bottle on a passing waiter's tray.

Bloodied Flesh - January 20, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
She nodded, understanding. She had lived for almost eighty years. It wasn't quite a century, but it was more than old enough to know what she was doing. She smiled at his next question.

"Whatever I want," she said, taking a sip of her wine. "I'm independently wealthy. Married a rich mortal who seemed to have an extremely rare blood disease. Must not have taken his meds; he was insanguinated."

She said all of this very calmly, as though it were an everyday occurence. Obviously, only a vampire would have caught the humor in that statement. Blood disease, indeed.

Darkasian - January 22, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
"A rare blood disease..." A light almost touchable laugh left his throat and knew all too well what she meant. "So your poor husband passed away unexpectedly?" Of course the mortal did. She probably killed him herself, if he was to guess. Or at least she accidentally killed him while feeding.

"It's good that you're independently wealthy. You don't have to depend on a sire or the coven for money." Alex had to, but he was perfectly happy with his situation.

"I'm just curious...what's your last name?" He asked curious to put his suspicions to rest.

Bloodied Flesh - January 22, 2008 04:21 PM (GMT)
"Jaeger."

She took a slightly larger sip of her wine this time, though for her that was normal.

"So what do you do for a living, Alex?"

Darkasian - January 23, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Alex nodded at the name. So that was the name of the husband. He didn't say anything else about it, and listened to her question.

"I'm a waiter at the Ace High Casino." He said with a small smile. "Not exactly the best job, but it's got amazing benefits." Alex had a home with the coven there. "You ever been there?"

Bloodied Flesh - January 23, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
She shrugged.

"I've never really seen the point of gambling. Not unless I know I can win, anyway. People throw their whole lives away on those stupid slot machines. That's not really my thing."

She sipped her wine.

"But I'm sure working for a casino puts you where you want to be. I've heard they pay their employees well, especially at that one."

Darkasian - February 5, 2008 06:56 PM (GMT)
"Me neither. Gambling is just another way to lose money. The odds of someone winning the jackpot in the casino is quite low, but they keep on coming and winning money." With a sigh he his right leg on his left. "I only really gamble if my life's on the line..." He never really remenisced about the past. "I miss my transporting service. With air transport and whatnot sea transport has all but become dead." True he could probably find a job as a fisherman, but the fact of him being a vampire definitely was a hindrance.

"Oh they do pay a lot of money, but I don't really need it." Alex looked a litte distant for a second. "Money won't do me any good now." No he lost everything precious to him a long time ago. Alex lost his sister, everyone.

Bloodied Flesh - February 7, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
"Money always has its uses. This bar, for example. I could manipulate the minds of the mortals here easily enough. Hypnosis and command are all too easy. But money is quicker and easier. Why go through the effort if you don't have to?"

Sip.

"I liked fish as a mortal myself, but haven't really had a desire for any kind of food at all since being turned. Well," she said with a smile, "except for mortals."

Darkasian - February 7, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
"I guess you're right." He said with a shrug. "I just haven't had a real use for it other than a few clothes." Not to mention restoring the collar that he wore at his neck. He found his descendants and had sent money to them once a month. Of course as an anonymous benefactor. They would need the money more than he needed it. "Yeah those powers are certainly useful."

"Wait a while longer...you'll miss the taste of food." Yeah he missed it. He missed eating his sister's cooking. It was a tough life...well un-life but he wanted to live it. He would live it to the fullest.

Bloodied Flesh - February 8, 2008 06:22 PM (GMT)
"Oh, I do miss it...to an extent. I miss desiring it, mostly. But after sixty years of being a vampire, I've learned to do without."

The beat of the music changed from fast-paced hard rock to a series of slow-dance songs. Most people were leaving the floor, disgusted, though a few couples stayed to dance.

"A shame," Colleen said as she looked upon the DJ at the front of the club. "If he weren't the club's only DJ, I might feed from him. He'd probably be a good meal, fat as the slob is."

Indeed, though the man was clearly a vampire, he looked like fat Albert - only deprived of food for a week and eyeballing the girls instead of the hamburgers for sustenance. Colleen sighed. Well, now the music she liked was gone and the desire to dance went with it. All because she'd accepted a drink with someone. Figures.

Oh, well. Maybe he'd be a good fuck and could make up for it. Regardless, she went back to sipping her wine.

Darkasian - February 13, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
"Yeah even after living a good two hundred years I still miss it." He shrugged and looked out at the dance floor as people started to part. "I guess that's why I still try to cling to my humanity." He was an Enashe and clinged to his humanity as if it was a lifeline. He was afraid of his thirst, and what would happen if he let go of that thread of humanity he had.

With a sigh he looked at Colleen and shrugged. "I don't care who I feed from. As long as I can get enough to sustain myself I'm happy." He hadn't killed anyone feeding yet, and he planned to keep it that way. Plus he didn't like to force himself on others. He preferred the willing donors at the casino.

Bloodied Flesh - February 13, 2008 05:29 PM (GMT)
"I'm a sensual feeder myself," Colleen said with a smile.

Of course, just about everyone knew that the Nephim were sensual feeders. They loved sex and greatly enjoyed feeding during such acts. Colleen was most certainly no different than any other Nephim in that regard.

"I do finish off my victims, though. I don't know..."

She shrugged.

"I guess I just do it out of habit, maybe...but it's become strangely appealing to me. The art in it, I mean...the way a mortal corpse stares up lifelessly at you, the way it lies with not a hair stirring...maybe I need a vampire boyfriend."

She said all this without any kind of a smile or any hint of pleasure; indeed, it seemed almost boring to her. Yet Colleen didn't seem to be bothered by it, either, as she sipped her wine and stared down at the table. It was almost like she was an art critic studying a particularly interesting painting - no emotion, but plenty of thoughts on the object.

Darkasian - February 15, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Alex let out a sigh, and shook his head. "I don't like to use the word victim." He looked down at the table. "It's amazing how the covens are so different. The Enashe live as human as possible, but the others are so different." He said with a sigh.

He didn't want to hear this, how she loved to kill people during sex, how it was appealing to her. "I don't find any pleasure in killing someone while feeding." He didn't know about her. He tried to live his life as a human. It was hard for him to get along with vampires from different covens. "Yeah maybe you should." He said as he looked at the dance floor.

Bloodied Flesh - February 16, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
Colleen sighed. Her life had become strangely monotonous of late. Sure, the parties were fun and she was a party girl by her very nature, but having someone to party with was much more fun - someone that lasted longer than one night of sex and feeding, that is. And no, she didn't need to kill her 'victims' - it just came to her naturally and she'd never really seen a need to change her habits for the sake of humanity. There were over six and a half billion people on the planet, after all. Why should she be worried about a DJ here, a lawyer there, a doctor this night, a college student that night...why bother worrying about it?

She was as human as her present counterpart, though. The difference was, however, that she'd adapted to what she was. Some people - mostly in the Enashe coven - had not. It was also true that not all Nephim had completely adapted, though. That kind of disappointed her to an extent, but she didn't typically sleep in the catacomb so why bother worrying about what the rest of them thought or felt about how to feed? She had her preferences, they had theirs; it was as simple as that.

She continued to drink her wine as she looked back at her companion. He seemed to be an unadjusted vampire from what he was saying. That was a shame, but there was nothing she could do about it.
