Title: David McCallister
Description: Enashe
Dorian - June 16, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
Name: David Dorian McCallister
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Apparent Age: 28
Place of Birth: Annapolis, Maryland
Species: Vampire.
Coven: Enashe
Appearance: David was rather average in every physical aspect before he was turned. After the turn, however, he gained two inches and lost almost every ounce of body fat, placing him at 6'1 and 155 pounds. His face is rugged with a strong jawline; tanned in years past, but pale and hollow now. Smallish ears are hidden behind somewhat curly brown hair, that is free from most natural oils. His hands are large for his size, and despite the smoothing effect of his turn to vampirism, they are still somewhat knotted from a late childhood of manual labor. There is a burn-scar on the left side of his stomach roughly two inches long from a teenage boating accident. Though it has shrunk considerably due to his body's natural healing process, it is still quite present, and stings from time to time. His teeth are unremarkable, being pointy where they typically would (considering his vampiric state), and smooth otherwise.
History: David was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland to two loving parents. His father installed glass for a living, and his mother waitressed at a local restaurant. While they never really went without, money was always a little tight. As David grew, it became quite apparent that he would need glasses, a necessity for school. While he achieved rather good grades, he only barely squeezed into the top ten percent of his class. After school, he took a few business classes from a local community college, picked up his bachelor's at Maryland State, and became another executive lost in a big-name company.
The turn came when he was 28, and was due entirely to his wish to be a writer. During one of his frequent nightly walks around a city (Baltimore, in particular), he walked down what turned out to be the wrong alleyway. He immediately blacked-out upon the strike. When he awoke, his world effectively changed.
(His state after the turn will be explained in roleplays, considering it's only been eight years.)

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have no interest in taking part in an rpg in which the Staff members are so entirely inept. If my application can not be dealt with expediently, what can I expect IC?
Please remove this application. I no longer wish to join your site.
Romax - July 5, 2007 05:56 AM (GMT)
Ahem. I am a newbie and not inclined to post in joining threads, and you might not even come back to visit anymore, but you made me cranky. If you had actually read the rules, you might realize that you are free to start roleplaying as soon as you post your Joining Form. Administrators and moderators generally check forms en masse when they have the time, which is reasonable when you considerable the volume of work they need to slog through. They are people, not bots, and deal with this when they can. So really, what's ridiculous is joining a site, not reading the rules, and then getting pissed off at people.
Pandora Lorrain - July 5, 2007 05:58 AM (GMT)
i so agree with that, when I read this I was so appalled. The mods and the admins do have their own lives, this is something they do because they have the time to do so. People like you annoy me...
Marcus - July 5, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
Your account has been deleted less than twenty-four hours after you decided to be an ass...
How's that for progress?
P.S. Thanks for the support Romax and Pandora.

Ah, yes, the "Admins and Mods have lives" spiel. Nine times out of ten, this is simply a front for laziness. I've seen the card pulled on multiple sites, many times by people who openly admit to me later that they simply don't feel like it. I've been a member of many, many RPGs, and a Staff member on almost all of them, and I know how much work goes into approving Bios, dealing with members, streamlining rules, etc. So it takes a bit. That's fine. But when I wait for weeks while some people's characters that were posted after mine get rushed through and I'm left sitting, I'm understandably a bit frustrated. My character was incredibly young. There isn't much history to corroborate. My character would take a grand total of ten minutes MAXIMUM to approve by a competent Staff member of any other RPG.
Marcus, you manage to prove my point. As soon as I become a problem, THEN the massive behemoth known as the Vital Staff decides to rear its head and do something. Fantastic timing. Too bad you couldn't have put that initiative into effect when I was waiting for someone to approve my account.
And seriously guys. A ban? That's hilarious. Are we so insecure about our site and our workings as a Staff that we must deride a member, then give them an IP ban?
Trust me, I will certainly not be recommending this RPG to anyone. I had been looking for a strong Vampire RPG, but clearly, this is not it. I'll simply have to keep looking.
I'll be checking back (whether or not you guys try to pull another IP ban. They don't actually work anyway). If you guys ever stop slacking, I might consider joining again (likely anonymously, since lower-quality sites such as this one tend to go off of first-impressions, especially the Admins).

Considering I'm one of the ones who handles most of the approving, let me make a statement.
I was busy during the month of June. Really busy. So busy, I was barely sleeping. I get that you're frustrated, and I understand it. There is, however, big red text at the top that says that you can play without being approved. We did that, so that when we did have the time (and the energy) to approve characters, we could do it en masse.
Now, as for your character, I know why I was waiting to approve him along with the no-time factor. You stated that you wanted to play out the turning in RPs. We usually make you write out the history, those bits included. I was waiting to talk to someone with more authority than me to see if it would be possible to let you get away with it this once (because I figured - and I assume rightly so - that you might have have been a little annoyed since I got the impression that you'd done it this way before).
Unfortunately, personal problems came up. Exams came up. Trying to get tourist visas for other countries came up. My aunt was being stalked, and had to phone the police. I've had to take care of the household because everyone else was sick. Trying to plan a get together with elementary school friends I haven't seen in years came up. I'm sorry that you were shirked, but when I came online, I corrected the ones I could do easily so that I could manage to get something done before I had to leave again. And with everything else that came up, on my side and theirs, I just didn't have the time (or the brain capacity to remember) to ask someone.
I apologize. That's all I can do.
But I refuse to be called inept when I have to deal with a million other things in my personal life. I'm not making excuses - I'm telling the truth. In real life, I'm that person that always takes it upon herself to plan the picnics, and the get-togethers - to take care of the trips, and find out the expenses and babysit other people's children on short notice. So yes, I do put people's character sheets off. I'm not going to deny it. But I don't do it because I'm completely lazy. I do it because I know that if someone were going over MY character sheet, I'd want them to be awake to do it properly. I don't think it's fair to have to go over a character sheet of a vampire 3000 years old, nitpicking on everything, only to - the next day, week, whatever - have to say, "Oh, I see that you changed that, and by the way, here's some more stuff that's wrong."
Can you disagree with me on this point? Absolutely. I won't fault you for it. I'm not going to be reduced to having an argument with you. I am angry, but when I'm angry, I try to be as civil as possible. It doesn't always work, but I try.
I just thought I'd put in my two cents.
Christopher - July 10, 2007 10:49 PM (GMT)
That's completely fair. None of my arguments apply to you then, and I apologize for any anger you've gotten on account of my posts.
You are, however, an extreme exception. Most people AREN'T so terribly busy and also Staff. Admins tend to like people who have nothing better to do. I stereotyped, caught you in the crossfire, and made a mistake. Sorry.
Admittedly, I wasn't aware that I was able to RP after I made a character profile. After reading the incredibly prolific Ruleset, I skimmed the red text (and I'm quite good at skimming), but saw a "can't" instead of a "can". Still, the principle stands. Waiting more than two weeks for such a simple approval is silly, especially when an Admin places an IP ban less than twenty-four hours after my second post.
Again, sorry to you personally, none of my complaints are targeted at you.
If everyone else has a similarly potent excuse, I'm going to look incredibly stupid.
Istar Indora - July 10, 2007 10:53 PM (GMT)
I refused to get involved any more than this. Arrogance breeds contempt, you would do well to remember that. And if you like it or not, everyone you'll ever meet will judge you strongly off of first impressions, that is why the old saying goes that you only get one.
So sorry for not getting to your profile, really sorry, but you are a contemptible sort...figure out why that is.
Christopher - July 10, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Istar, arrogance does indeed breed contempt. Many other things also breed contempt. I could put together a pompous, holier-than-thou post built off of a cliche as well, but then, you did such a fabulous job, why have two?
I'm judging Vital off my first impression. Either attempt to fix that impression, or keep going on as you're doing. Nafretiri, though pissed (and understandably, I'm pissed myself, and piss has a way of traveling), made a good account. I respect that, and understand that. You, instead, resort to sarcasm. It's free, and not at all helpful.
I feel like a mystery shopper. Wish that were the case.
Marcus - July 10, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
Why did I react so quickly to a request to remove you from the site?
Because you were attacking my mods, who are my friends.
You are expendable. Their feelings are not.
I am not obligated to justify what restrictions I may have on my time that prevent me from doing admin work right now to anyone, least of all a shit disturber such as yourself. The same is true for any on the mod team.
Do not return to this site. You are not welcome here. I’d have thought that the banning and account removal might’ve tipped you off to that fact. We are not interested in what you have to say, or in gaining any members that you might’ve recommended.
Short summary?
Fuck off.
In two days, I’ll be removing this topic. Should you join with another account --which, I’m not sure why you would, as you are so thoroughly dissatisfied with this forum-- it will be removed. Any posts you make will be removed, and mods, please do not reply to any such posts; just delete them.
Colum Felshen - July 10, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
It has been a long time since I’ve been active on this site and even longer since I’ve posted any kind of message on a character sheet thread… but you inspired me.
After all everything that’s been said and done here I for one hope you don’t decide to stay. You are arrogant and have no respect for the rules or authority on this site. You came back after being banned and mention your intention to “check back” simply so that it will be known that you intend to continue your little argument for the sake of arguing. Even after you have been informed of your ability to play without being approved you insist on arguing and attacking the staff of this site.
Your actions are deplorable! As much as I want to see this site grow and I encourage new members, people like you don’t belong in a community like this. Vital’s administration team has worked hard to make this site a supportive community and you seem to only want to attack and destroy that.
If all you intend to do here is bitch and complain about the fact that some administrator could not get to your profile in time when you have admitted to failing to read the rules in full then I hope you leave and never come back! Life is too short for people like you and from what I know of the administration team’s real lives, they have more than enough of people like you already.
Get lost!
Dorian - July 11, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
Oh, c'mon. Who actually reads all those rules? No one. You guys are far too prolific in that respect for anyone to actually read all of them. That's one of the many pitfalls of these site.
I don't wish to attack and destroy this site. I wish to test and better it. There are many places it can be bettered, including the speed of the Staff (which thus far is incredibly lackluster unless it's something fresh and original, such as making fun of and then banning a disgruntled member).
Again, IP bans are pointless, so if you wish to continue wasting your time with it, go ahead. I think you're wrong. You're the Admin and you think I'm wrong. I played nice, absolutely nothing got done. I get a bit gritty, you get a hell of a lot more gritty, but you're justified and I'm not.
It's easy to test sites such as these. Similar to Nietzsche's "Philosophizing with a Hammer". You throw logic at poor Admins, they crumble (though, by jove, they'll never admit it).
You'll likely be deleting this topic before the two days are out. Otherwise, you're just giving me a soapbox. Unless, of course, you intend to lock it.
Either way, I'm thoroughly pissed enough by your treatment to continue this exchange. You can't ever totally ban me. All you can do is edit the way new accounts are created (which, I'm certain, you've already thought of). In any matter, my mark has been made, and where my mark has been made, there is the hope that you might actually listen and change for the better.
Hopefully.
EDIT: Wow. "Expendable". Didn't catch that the first time through. Horrendous attitude for an Admin.
AngelWings - July 11, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
Dude... Why are you being such an ass?
Rules are there to keep order and to make sure people know what the hell is going on. And you obviously have NO CLUE what's going on.
The Admin here are the best Admin I've run across out of about 30 or so sites. Just because you have no life and want to fight these petty arguments doesn't mean the rest of us don't have lives.
I was an admin on a few boards and I admit there were times that I couldn't do what I needed to. Taking 5 or 6 classes a semester in college, working 40 hours a week, having family problems and having my finance's family's problems I get really busy some times.
You are not throwing Logic at anyone, so don't claim to be. You are NOT testing this site because this site has it's own rules and ways of doing things. If you have a problem don't join the site, simple as that buddy. You don't have to be a member here if you don't want to, and it seems that you don't. You might think you're gonna turn a bunch of people away from this site with your grumblings and mightier-than-thou attitude, but you know what? All the members here are going to stand by the Admins 100% so there's no use even trying.
We know that they are all good guys here and they have always been fair, lenient and respectful to those who are willing to work with them. I have had a few problems in the past and I've always been able to work things out with them to an agreeable ending for everything.
There is nothing the admins here need to change so don't bother pulling out all this philosophy and psychology stuff with us. If they really needed to change something here in the rules or with themselves, it would be painfully clear to everyone here, including the other admins. That's why we have more than one. So just keep your opinions to yourself and move on to torment and ridicule your next board and just get on with your self-important life.
Ta-ta
PS: People like you are expendable.
Darkasian - July 11, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
Oh shut the fuck up (person who started this)!!! I've met people like you, and I can't tell you how many times I just wanted to punch them in the face, you're definitely not an exception. I've been here for a while, and I've gotta say that the Mods and Admin have LIVES. This site lasted so long BECAUSE OF THEM!!! You're probably some spoiled little brat.
Take the hint and get lost! For the sake of everyone in this site please shut the fuck up and leave us alone. The site runs fine, and I haven't had a single complaint. So go to Hell.
Dorian - July 11, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
Incorrect. The proper philosophy of a Staff member is to place the member first. This means solving problems expediently, NOT letting them sit for weeks on end.
If you've gone through 30 sites, and THIS is the best Admin you've found, you must've been digging through Gaia Online or some other shit-site such as that. While he's damn good at getting things mechanized, he's breaking down in other sections. Not the worst Admin I've ever seen, but still quite poor.
I have no doubt you or any other would stand by your Admin. If you asked any citizen of Germany during Hitler's reign, they would've stood by Hitler. That you support the person who runs the site means absolutely shit. On one extreme, you're genuine. On the other extreme, you want benefits. That's a lot of gray area.
Besides, whenever the majority becomes the standard by which we judge things (read: whenever the masses shut down the minorities), chaos ensues. Not in an organizational context, but in a progress-based context. Some food for thought.
Dorian - July 11, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Yes, Staff members have lives. Yes, you are pulling the ever-so-subtle joke that I clearly must not have a life. Never mind the fact that the rest of you are bothering to put together long-winded posts about how I'm such an idiot. If I AM such an idiot, why bother trying to prove it to me? Unless, of course, you actually have no life and need something to while away the time until the next Sailor Moon re-run (assuming the majority of you are heavily into anime, which, statistically, probably isn't too far from the mark).
Let's face it. You're writing from the aspect of a character on a forum-based RPG. The whole "I have a life" argument doesn't actually apply. People who REALLY have lives don't tend to roleplay. So let's get rid of that pile of shit and actually discuss, mkay?
Darkasian - July 11, 2007 01:58 AM (GMT)
Whoopty-fucking-doo. You're just a fucking asshole that gets a kick out of fighting on sites like this. All admins/mods have different ways of dealing with things on sites, so stop trying to make the argument that they should stop what they're doing to work on a site when they have lives just like everyone else. Of course you definitely don't if you're still arguing here.
I myself work my fucking ass off, and can understand what the admins and mods go through. Try moving out of your parent's basement and into the real world.
Dorian - July 11, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
XD
I love how each of you have so far managed to defeat your own argument. The only one that's actually been completely fair and respectable was Nefretiri (sp?).
I'm a fucking asshole that gets a kick out of fighting on sites like this, hence:
You're a fucking asshole that gets a kick out of fighting with fucking assholes who fight on online roleplaying games.
Go drop that line at the local bar and see how many hot, sexy anime chicks you can pick up.
While you're at it, go hump a cactus.
AngelWings - July 11, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
Long winded? Hah... That was just a simple little sliver of my thoughts right now. But if you don't have the attention span to read it all, I'll sum it up.
Leave. Just go. We have made it plain and clear that we do not want you here. This will be the last post I make simply because posting here only inflates your ego and I'm not catering to some dumbass who has nothing better to do than fight with the mods of an RP board over something that is useless and futile.
If you think you can do better, go start your own site and good luck, just leave our site alone. I come here to have fun and escape the stress of life, not deal with the plague of stupidity that continually ruins my life on a day to day basis. I deal with enough idiots at work who think that they problems are SOOO important, I don't need you making things worse. The customer (in this case you buddy) is not always right. This is one of those times.
Dorian - July 11, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
Heh, here we go again.
In the same vein, you have nothing better to do than to argue with me. And if you DO have something better to do, then you're illogical, as you should be doing what it is that you have better to do instead of something that isn't better to do.
The grammar in that was horrendous. If you couldn't understand it, then just know that I essentially broke your and most of the other folks' in here arguments apart.
I don't have the time to make my own site. If I did, I would've long ago.
Marcus - July 11, 2007 02:16 AM (GMT)
Well, you have me curious now.
What, exactly, are you hoping to gain from continuing this argument? You’re not going to convince me to “better” my site when I see nothing wrong with it (nor are you going to make me see something wrong with it, not when I have so many satisfied members). You’re not going to convince any of my members to leave, and if, by chance, you do, then I’ll peacefully, albeit sadly, let them go.
If, by some odd twist of fate, we are able to reach some form of agreement and you are permitted to properly join and RP here, no one is likely to have any desire whatsoever to participate in a thread that you’ve begun, or posted in.
So.
What’s in it for you?
(By the way, comparing me to Hitler? Gave me a good laugh. Thanks for that. :))
Dorian - July 11, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)
After talking with Marcus, I'd like this bio considered up-and-running again.
If anyone wants to chew me out or anything, please do it through PM or IM. Either way works for me.
Istar Indora - July 11, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
I'll have a through look at it .
And forgive me the sarcasm, because before wasn't sarcasm, this is sarcasm. But I'll be totally objective looking your bio over and that is the promise I'll give you right now.
Alright, while your history was efficient enough, I’d like a bit more about your character’s life, a man is more than his job and the city he lives in. Actually your physical description did a wonderful job of breathing life into your character, just something seemed to happen with the history.
Also while I can respect your wish to further the story after his turn in RP, I have to say nope. After all I’d like some explanation of his sire, the reason why he was turned, indeed what took him from his home all the way to the city of Demaitre in which Vital takes place.
In the past we have had lots of vampire characters without ‘sire motive’ so it has become a bit of a pet peeve around here.
