Title: Suspicion
Description: -Vixey
Patrick Smith - February 3, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)
Patrick fumbled around getting on his gear in his office. His gun was in his holster, and he had his mace. He put on his jacket and straightened his badge. Another day another dollar, he thought to himself. He sighed, 7 P.M it was getting dark and soon he would haft to meet his partner, Jaxon Synclair.
He turned and picked up a handful of documents and put them in the paper shredder. They were in all truth all the info the CIA could compile on Jax. After they were shredded he removed the disposal container and set it on his desk. After reading the file he now believed to now why she was so troubled. He felt sorry for her, yet he had to stay professional and not ask.
He picked up the container for the paper shredder and left his office. He locked the door behind him and towards the exit. He handed the janitor who was taking out the trash the container. “Thanks Pops.” He said to him leaving.
He got into his police cruiser and fired up the engine. He would take the back way to the warehouse district. He drove down the streets looking around, nothing on his mind. At about 7:45he arrived, 15 minutes early to their meeting place. Now he just needed to wait for her.
Vixey - February 4, 2006 01:58 AM (GMT)
Waiting? Jax had been the one waiting around for minutes. Well, with her new gift-slash-curse a few minutes were trivial matters that ment nothing to her in the long run. It just annoyed her. She lept, feeling the rush of the free fall off the five story building down the street aways as she spotted him comming in his car, makign her way silently in the shadows cast by the lights.
"Punctuality Smith." She said with a smirk as she seemeingly appeared out of no where. Out of the shadows. She was wearing denims and a black tanktop on the cool clear night , but not a goosebump to be seen on her skin. Well, at least now she didn't have to worry about getting sick or cold or hot... She was finding more and more pluses with this whoel vampire thing day by day, and with a lot of help from her apparent adopted son/sire Henri.
"It's all important with this force." She gave a light laugh as she brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes. She had fed this rising on a drug dealer she had been tracking as a human for some time, finaly finishing him off tonight for good. He would never again spread his filth around. One down, so many more to go. But the human blood, as well as the cuirous thrill of the kill had her in a rather chipper mood. Much different than when her new subordenat last saw her.
"Did you find out anything new in the mean time Smith? Looking up some info, perhaps that was why you were late?" She suggested in ernist, not making fun of him. She tilted her head with a smile, her dual colored eyes glinting slightly.
Patrick Smith - February 5, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
Patrick glanced around looking at all the different buildings. He noted each one, and each one was dark and empty. There were people walking around in the streets yet only a handful, and they did not look they were up to something. He shook his head and turned on the radio and listened to a station giving American news.
For 8 P.M it was to silent. It drove him nuts, so he turned on the radio to an 80s classic rock station. He glanced around again and wondered how 500 million dollars in guns could be going through this city, it seemed like nothing was happening.
He thought about is partner, her past creeped him out. To many strange murders and runaways. She was hiding something, and he could feel it. Yet everyone seemed to hiding something in this town, and he had never been in any place that made him feel so on edge. Sometimes he felt like he was being watched.
When Jax popped out he jumped, for she had spooked him. "Dammit." He said. He looked at her. She was pale as ever, yet she did not seem as tried or sick. Now that he thought about it, he was not sure if it was the aura around her that made him jump or her appearing out of nowhere. Not to mention that lack of uniform, she seemed hardly fit to do service work. Oh how he was going driving around with her all night. "Ok Kiddo, whats the game plan?" He asked.
Vixey - February 5, 2006 05:06 AM (GMT)
"Teach you how to be punctual Smith. After all, didn't I say seven-thirty?" She said with a grin. "But anyway," She notied the look over. "I'm a vigilanti tonight. Apparently someone thought I needed a day-slash-nigh off or whatever." She said with a slight glare at him. Apparently her apperance had not been too good as she left, causing them to actualy take her off the schedual tonight. She had gotten the message on the answering machine of her cell phone when she woke up.
"But anyway, we've got a job to do." She was standing at the window of the car, but moved aside and motioned for him to get out. "So you gonna get off your ass or not? I figured I can show you where I set the cameras, we can take a quick look round and in the building. Then I was thinking dinner and a movie and we'd call it a night. What do you think?" The last two were obvious jokes, or at least she thought they had been.
"After all I heard that this new movie with this vampires and werewolves thing was pretty cool." She said with a laugh. If only being a vampire was that glorious. They never showed the downs to it... watching as time killed off everyone you cared about? Well not that she had anyone. The fear of rejection, the thirst... They only showed to good parts. The power, the strength, the immortality... Hah
Patrick Smith - February 5, 2006 05:29 AM (GMT)
Patrick listened to her with no interest. "I told you to pas on the video cameras, as I said it was info drawn from Canada and England that made the US drop theirs." He shook his head. And they called him the rookie.
"Vampires..." He said.(OOC: I actauly like Underworld: Evolution, made me go out and buy an Anna Rice book). "What crock full of shit, who wants a movie about made up fantasy creatures fly around and kill each other? I would rather go home and watch Band of Brothers. Thats good shit." He said. He laughed, "If anyone is a vampire, its you captain, you look as pale and gloomy as Dracula himself." He said making a joke.
About two miles away...
Arpad Jumped from a roof to a warehouse to another. he carried with him a black suitcase that contained a very valuable asset. Unlike most dealers who wanted cash, Arpad prefered gold and jewels. Yet above all else he wanted rare holy artifacts. And tonight he was going to make an exchange, a big one.
He jumped through a broken window of a warehouse, after cutting the wire to a camera before it could spot him. He landed inside and looked down at his client. Good he was here. Arpad jumped down and landed infront of his client. The man who also carried with him a suit case turned to greet him, yet he was startled by his sudden arrival.
"The Knight--" The client asked but before he could finish Arpad finished. "--of the Cup." He nodded. "Your American XM8." He said tossing the suitcase. The client, a terrorist from Belorussia nodded. He set it down and opened up his suitcase to pull a black metal case. "One Holy cross blessed by Saint Wenceslas in 927 A.D." he said. Arpad smiled and opened the case.
Back at the police car...
"I'm noting getting out of the damn car, not while your not offically on duty." he said. "You can get in." He said motioning to the passanger side. "lets go."
Vixey - February 5, 2006 05:43 AM (GMT)
"Gloomy?" She retorted. "I'm about as chipper as a chipmunk if I may say so." She grinned, controling her heart beat as it spikes sharplly for a moment. Obviously from his prior comments he didn't believe in such things. Good for him. But just because he didn't believe in him didn't make them any less real. "And as for pale, hah... This whole extra long winter is just sucking the color right out of my skin. I'm used to the nice warm Florida sun thank you." If he shoudl ask around, that was what she had told everyone. "And I'm not that pale you know."
"Smith... Who's in comand here?" She gave him a moment to think it over. "So get your ass out of the car now. And a good member of the force is never really off duty. Call it a 'recomended holiday' if you want to." She shrugged. She coudln't lose her job. No, her job was her. It was all she had left now.
"And if you're not out in five seconds, I will be pulling you out, make no mistake." She said, a very obvious threat. Granted she wouldn't hurt him. Not on purpose anyway. "The cameras aren't just any cameras though. They're not just going to be recording for hours on end of pointless footagefor nothing." She said as she opened the car door for him.
Patrick Smith - February 5, 2006 05:57 AM (GMT)
Patrick got out of the the car. "The things I do for the force and for justice." he said. "Even if it means kissing your ass." he laughed. He looked at Jaxon. "So captain is your fine collection of cameras got nightvision attachments. Its hard to see in the dark you know." He said. He looked at her and pointed towards a warehouse. "How do we know the bad guys didn't turn them off." He said. "what do we do then?" He leaned up against his car.
Back two miles away....
Arpad held the ancient golden cross in his hands. It was perfect, the blessing of Saint Wenceslas could be felt for it gave off a fair amount of heat. Arpad nodded. The police will be here soon, once they found the camera. He felt sorry for the man, he would haft to break his end of the deal.
The client sank to the floor, a knife in his neck. He was still alive, yet he was slowly dieing. Arpad bent over him and fed, what a rush... he was refreshed. Yet he jerked up, another vampire was close. He could feel her with his strength renewed.
Back at the car...
"So captain, where did you go to school. Didn't they teach you guys that surveillance was like a bad version of 1984?" he said. "I say we just start busting people, this ain't the states and they don't have the same rights."
Vixey - February 5, 2006 06:24 AM (GMT)
"Hey, at least is a nice ass to be kissing." She said rather smuggly, grinning back at him.
"Motion sensors, closed circut feed to the office... Yes night vision too... I was thinking about getting the infrares sensors... But decided that might be a bit superfilous." In actuality she didn't want to be responsible for reveiling the existance of vampires... Especialy if this was who they thought it was.
Anyway, they're about the size of my hand, so their fairly small for what we need them to do. Each is activated by three different sensors in different areas. Just where I said they would be. All have been tested out, sensors work, camera feed shuts on and off properly, only recording when motion is felt, cutting off automaticly after fifteen minutes." She explained. "We can't adjust the camera positioning at the office though. The movement would have to be done manualy but no biggie." She shrugged.
"And no, they might not have the same rights, but well, if I'm going to be charging people I'll damn well have evidence against them."
Patrick Smith - February 5, 2006 06:36 AM (GMT)
Her comment made him grin as well. He had to shake his head to get his eyes off her figure. Professional he thought, she is your partner.
he was rather impressed that she had updated cameras. Yet the whole idea still bugged him. The could easly switched off or covered with a blanket or towel. On the upside they were small, which would give them some stealth abilities. Yet he questioned how they were going to help when they were on the field. "do you have a wireless feed so we can watch from them now?" he asked her. He was rather annoyed at the fact that they would haft to go back to the station to watch the cameras.
"Rights..." He shook his head, "Ok fine, but just leave all the fancy arrests and right readings to me. I don't want you to let the arms trafficers walk after they give you a confession." He said with a smile.
Vixey - February 5, 2006 06:46 AM (GMT)
"Unfortunatly all feed goes to the station. Those who are above even me said that it wasn't a 'nessecity' whatever the hell they ment by that..." She grumbled.
"But, a posibilty I've been thinking of... Those little hand held TV things... If there was a way we could get them to pick up the waves we should be able to do something like that. But unless you're a wiz with electronics, it's a no go bud."
"Anyway, there are three that are on other buildings, either on the roof or halfway up... the two that cover the alley are on the top corners of the building, worked into the brick. They criss-cross the alley with an overlap in between so nothing is hidden... The sensors are just as hidden, in the cracks of the side walk, that sort of thing."
She had to laugh as he mentiond her 'confessions'. Letting them walk off? Not likely. "Whatever gets ya hard kid." She said with a snort. He could do all the showboating stuff, just so long as she got to have her fun with them later.
Patrick Smith - February 6, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
Patrick nodded. "I can work hand held wireless feeds." He said. One of many things they had trained him to do during his college career. They were actauly easy to use for computer capable people. "Will work out something to get the wireless monitors back at th station, let me do the programming."
He moved slightly down the street looking from warehouse to warehouse. He knew that these cameras were not going to work. More importantly he wondered who the hell was up to it. The scale they were dealing with were not mobsters, but terrorists. He was concered about a handful of groups of people. Personaly he believed the weapons to be goign somewhere. In some cases he was concered that the Front de libération du Québec was in full operations again. That would would be bad. Or maybe a new crime ring had started... He thought and was puzzled by the options
He looked at Jaxon. "Any thoughts on who you think is up to all this captain?" He asked her.
Vixey - February 6, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
"Well then since electronics is your department, I'll leave you to it." She nodded as she headed towards the building.
She felt a shadow of a doubt pass her mind... No his mind... That things would not work out. She looked up to the cameras. "They'll work Smith. If anything human or inhuman trips those sensors, thos cameras will work." She stated strongly.
But if this were a vampire that they were tangling with... One older, stronger... Faster. He would only be on tape for a few moments... If he tripped the sensors at all. And what if he didn't have a reflections, like Henri? Would he show up on film? But even if it was a vampire, Jaxon would be forced to kill it... She knew the danger she was in just by being herself... A 'monster' to humans...
She headed over to the alley entrance, prefering the back way to front and center. But...
"The Door's locked." She said as she furrowed her eyebrows. "It wasn't like this when I stopped by on my way home last night..." She muttered.
Patrick Smith - February 6, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
Patrick smiled. "Always leave the electronics to me." he said. He followed her as she went towards the warehouse.
"If aanything trips them. Criminals have matured with technology as well." He said. They have all sorts of nifty gadgets for neutralizing surviellence equipment." He said still not willing to agree with Jax that Surviellence would work. And what inhuman would trip the sensors? he thought.
He looked at her. Just was thinking about something, he could put his finger on it. He recalled the time back at the station when she had sort of bulged her eyes when he told her about his time in the last warehouse. Did she know something? Something he did not have clearance to know that she did? That question bugged him a little. For a police officer like him to be given a partner of Mobile Force Team was odd. She knew something, she had to, see had much more information clearance then he did.
"The door is stuck." He said arriving at the door as Jax tried to open it. He shook his head and looked around. He walked over to a large crate next to a dumpster and pushed it ove to a windo by the warehouse. He got onto the crate and pulled out a glass cutter and cut the glass. Before he was finished he place a suction cup with a metal handle on the end on the glass. He had cut a large area out and removed it without it breaking becuase of the suction/handle thing. "You first?"
Vixey - February 6, 2006 08:02 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, Ally cats stray dogs or whatever?" She said, noting the odd look that She had been given by her partner. "Non-human creatures?" That was what she had actualy ment, but whatever
As she turned back to the door to give it a slight yank, not using anywhere near her full power to rouse suspicion, she watched as he walked off to the window, to cut out glass... "Okay..." She muttered with a sigh as he turned his back to her.
She gave the door another yank, this time using her new found vampiric strength. There was a loud clunk of metal, and the grinding of wood from the door as the lock was ripped, the chains that had been lockign the door from the inside fell to the ground, alowing her acces through the door while Patrick was still cutting.
"You Kid, are you comming or what?" the scent she got was musky, old, decrepid, with an old scent of fire and gumpowder... even death. But there was no one in here... A faint human like trace... but not human... Her gut told her it was a vampire. She drew her gun from the hip holster and looked around, the warehouse was nearly pitch black, a human would be hampered by this darkness, but Jax could see as if it were high noon... Metal ladders up to the rafters... Steele supports and some old broken machenary... And crates...
"The door was locked from the inside, someone has another way of getting out..." She muttered.
Patrick Smith - February 8, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
Patrick watched as she forced her way through the door. He stood ontop that crate for nothing. He shrugged and jumped through the window. He fell to the floor and landed about 10 feet away from Jaxon's right. He stood and brushed himself off. "You know, I'm not a kid. I'm older than you." He said. He pulled out his service pistol. He could tell as well. When she forced open the door it made a loud clank and grinding sound, anyone inside now knew they were here. "That was not smooth kiddo you should have waited for me." He said refering that his glass cutting was more effective.
Patrick could not see worth shirt. "I can't see..." He said softly. If only I could use my night vision goggles. He thought, but he could not risk it infront of Jaxon. He wiped the thought from his mind. They could use a flare, it would reveal there presence but anyone inside already knew they were here. He pulled out a magnesium flare and looked over to Jaxon. Then again it might also put them into a dangerous position as well. Frack, no way to see... he realized and looked over to Jaxon for some Ideas.
Vixey - February 8, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
"By what? Days?" She smirked. "But no, there's no one here..." She said knowingly. "Not for the last couple days anyway..."
She took notes of the crates, of the ladders... As she moved her head she caught a whiff of somethign dead... Decaying...
She started walking towards the scent, it was comming from a back corner, strong and rancid now she was getting close. The putird smell was making her stomach roll. "Smith!" She called out. "Over here! I think there's something here. Someone..." There was a large pile of debris, wooden planks, sheets of metal, cement... The scent was comming from underneith...
She began to pull large chunks of wood off of what was more than likely someones tomb. But the smell became too much and she had to pull back after only moving a little of the debris. She was gagging as she pulled back. Why hadn't she smelt it before? "There's someone underthere... dead." She choked out.
Patrick Smith - February 10, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
"Still, older is older." Patrick said. "And more like a couple of months."
He glanced over to Jax and noticed her attention had been caught by something. "What's up?" He asked as she moved towards the back corner.
When she arrived at the back corner he pulled out his maglight and switched it on. He pointed it towardds her and moved forward. "What did you find?" He asked. He pressed forward and saw her gag at the corpse. The beam of the maglight hit the body and Patrick himself felt a bit sick to his stomach. "Frack!" he said looking at the corpse under the derbis. "How the hell did he get here?" He wondered aloud and bent over the body. No flies or maggots, meant he had not been dead for that long. "Less than three days, if anymore he would be crawling with bugs."
He looked around, "What the hell is he doing here?"
Vixey - February 10, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
Jax shook her head. "How the hell would I know Smith? I'm not a damn psychic!" She snapped as she stepped away. Just because she was a vampire didn't mean she liked death. In fact she was always one to save her victims from such a fate if they deserved it. But the stench of the corps was too much for her nose. There were no signs of decay yet, but the body was pale, stiff, scratches bruises and gashes from the debris.
She ceared her nose and steped back. After all she didn't need to breath, so she could just... hold her breath. The head was sitting at a funny angle, as if the neck had been snapped... That was a method of killing, especialy for vampires, but he could have simply fallen... The warehouse was old... Falling appart... But...
"I'll need to look at it closer..." She muttered relucantly. Bite marks would tell her what she needed or wanted to know... Well more needed... If she found that it was a vampire... She was in way over her head... "Help me move this stuff off, get the body out..." She began once more to pull away the rubble, making sure ont to breath.
Patrick Smith - February 16, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
Patrick shrugged and walked over next to the corpse. "No I don't think we should touch anything." Patrick said. "Evidence..." He said looking at the corpse. The debris covering and around the man could have finger prints or something else on them. If anything was disturbed it could damage or harm the evidence. Anything in the debris could have been a murder weapon. The boards, metal bars.... The possibilities were endless.
He studied the corpse. "His neck looks broken." He said to her. "We need to call a meet truck and let thwem handle this, becuase this is not our department." he said in protest. "I want an investigation team here before we start moving stuff, and i don't care how old the corpse is." He said.
Vixey - February 19, 2006 04:01 AM (GMT)
Yes, evidence, that was exactly what she wanted to look for. If it had anything to do with vampires... She would have to hide it somehow, to throw them off... But would humans even think of something so like nightmares and fairy tales as vampires? Probably not.
"But..." She murmured. Protocol however said he was right... But this was her department... But she could lose her job breaking protocol. She had to at least give them time to get here and take care of it...
"Go back out to your car, radio them and tell them they have thirty minutes. No lights or sirens. Thirty minutes or I'm digging in. Got it Officer?" She said, once more pulling her rank. No one at headquarters would think it strange either. Jax had always been the do-it-yourself type after all, so this request wouldn't be too different.
She ran her hand through her hair. "I want to know what's going on here, and I'm not going to stand around and wait while trail gets cold Smith. I'm sure you understand here." She said pointedly.
