It was amazing how ones arm could become numb after a concert due to lack of practice. Branwen growled slightly as she stretched out her neck and right arm, sighing lightly as she sat in one of the back rooms used to prepare for a concert.
"Jeez, you would think that Kraigen would give us longer breaks then half an hour with the music he gives us..." A man said, packing away his viola.
"You would think..." Branwen responed, sighing as she wipped the resin off of her bow before placing it into the case as well as the violin. "When does the Concert Hall close?"
"In about...half an hour...but they start shutting off lights in ten minutes." The man responded, standing and dusting off his suit. "Why?"
"Oh, I was just going to see if I could try out that Takamine that they have for sale..."
"Ah, I'm sure they won't mind. The back door is almost always unlocked, there's nothing really in here worth stealing." He headed for the door. "I'll see you later then, Branwen." And then he left.
Branwen stared at the bright blue Takamine guitar in front of her. It had been there for a while, no one really wanted it. Takamine wasn't the best of brands to some people, but it was Branwen's favorite. Despite her tiredness, she stood and quietly walked over towards the instrument, taking it off the wall to sit downon a bench. She ran her hand across the strings and winced at the harsh sound it made. No one had tuned it. Figured. It took her a good five minutes before she had it completely tuned, grinning at the beautiful sound it now made. Slowly she began to play Blackbird by the Beatles. Gradually her voice joined in.
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night.
Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise"
She sighed and shook her head, running her hand lovingly over the strings of the guitar. She hadn't realized that the lights had gone out and that she was sitting alone in the dark. Fear did not come, for she was use to the dark. She allowed her eyes to adjust to the darkened room before looking around warily.
