Title: Table For One

Rin sat in the booth with the sparkling red vinyl seats, her blue gaze snagged on a woman who sat two tables down from her. The woman was alone, stuffing peices of crumbling hamburger into her little O of a mouth as she wiped with her free hand at the dried streaks of mascara on her pudgy cheeks. Her pale stubby fingers reminded Rin of Vienna Sausages as they greedily stuffed a couple of french fries down the woman's throat. Rin shuddered finding it difficult to bring herself to look away, it was one of those fasinating but terribly disgusting things that was hard to ignore.
The woman heaved a sob bringing a sudden vibration through her many rolls, there was nothing now but crumbs and grease on the plate. If she licked the plate clean Rin knew she was going to be sick. She didn't. Thank God.
Rin leant back against the cool vinyl, crossing her slender arms over her chest before looking up to see a waitress staring back down at her.
How embarassing.
Rin flashed a smile. Nothing going on, right? Just your friendly neighborhood vampire looking for a bite.
The waitress smiled back. 'Are you ready to order m'am?' Rin thought about it for a second then shook her head. 'Nope, I think I'm good.' Just thirsty, might take chunky over there. Can't be picky after all.
The waitress left and Rin leaned back once more into the vinyl, watching. There was no urgence like last time, she seemed very much alive with the warm flush in her cheeks. No urgent need for blood in the system, she had enough nightmares in her daysleep, she didn't want anymore.

Tabitha Shrugged, well if they just want drinks, thats easy, but they never tip well when they just want drinks... cheap. Typical, being a waitress around here wasnt gonna pay the bills long, she was going to have to find a job at a better restraunt, but before that she was going to have to update her wardrobe. But not with the meager tips these cheapskates pay. Typical...
Tabbi placed the drink while the lady was looking away and went over to clean another table, another booring day... Nothing interesting every happenned to her. Not like in the romance novels, where someone mysterious and new enters the ladies life and makes it a strange but wonderful place. No, in reality, the most interesting thing of all was seeing the piggy customers stuff their faces, make a mess, then pay their tab giving her whatever change they might get, usually thirty some cents. Yea, great job kiddo. Maybe I should go to college...

One of the many things Rin enjoyed about being unhuman was the abilty to sense the emotion of others surrounding her, some vampires were so well developed in their abilties they could taste it. Rin was sure boredom tasted as it felt, like nothing at all, a tasteless, textureless thing that was just there. When the waitress left she left a trace of it. Rin smiled.
'Yeah go to college, kid.'
Who? Her? Intruding on other peoples thoughts? Nah. College would keep the girl away from danger, keep her alive, it was a smart thing to do. Maybe an incentive would help her decision.
The pudgy woman was no longer a source of much interest.

Two more orders of the soup... another Pepsi, nothing new. Tabbi yawned, ignoring the latest come on attempt by the fat cook. He didnt understand "Piss off" apparently.
She took a deep breath and looked at the clock. It was about break time, she looked out at the cafe'. Noone was needing anything for a moment, she smiled and walked out back to get some fresh air and some quiet. If she saved her money, she might be able to buy her ticket out of this town and maybe get to Hollywood, be a movie star. She knew she had the looks, but that didnt do anything but get her into trouble back home.
She leaned against the wall and rubbed her legs. Waitressing sucked, but it was work, and the tips were ok if she was willing to wear this short skirt and the tight top. It wasnt comfortable, but it did sometimes tripple the tips.
What the hell, she wasnt against letting a guy pat her ass if it meant a ten or twenty dollar tip....

Rin waited ever so paitently, she left her tip as if she knew someone would come back for it and left the table. Her walk was a confident one as she sauntered past the counter and into the kitchen area. The cook looked up almost immediatly.
'Heeey sweet cheeks.'
How very unappropriate. Rin flashed him a brilliant smile before reaching across to his other ear, as if to pull him towards her. Before he had enough time to respond she sank nicely manicured fingernails into his neck and pulled through. The spine gave a nice crack as his head slumped back revealing a shimmer of bone in the floresent lights of the kitchen.
Blood splattered into the soup and across the pale blue tile on the floor and wall. Some managed to spray across her, it was too bad she had already eaten. Now where did the waitress go?
Rin skipped past the cook who fell the moment there was no source of balance. Rin couldn't tell, but she assumed the soft crackle of burning flesh meant he fell onto the stove. She skipped around the kitchen, the heel of her shoes left little prints of glimmering crimson which came away from a pool that had gathered around the man's feet. There was a door, somewhat cracked where a draft of cool night air spilled in. Ah, that was where she had run off to.
Gently she pressed against the door and leaned into it as she looked at the waitress who leant against the wall. 'You know ... you shouldn't be out here alone.' Rin extended her hand, the girl was close enough to touch. There was no helping the urge to lace a stream of fresh blood down her cheek. She leaned into the door waiting for the reaction. If the girl wanted action in her life, she was about to get it.

Tabitha didnt look over, if the cook was gonna be a perv again, she didnt want to even look at him. Then the voice, it wasnt his. "You shouldnt be out here alone..."
Tabitha felt a warm finger on her cheek and turned her head sleightly to see who it was. It was one of the customers, must be a friend of the cooks if she is comming out the back door, he chases off everyone he doesnt like, which would be everyone shes met so far.
"Yea, Im a big girl, I even sit close to the tv and stay up past my bed time." she smiled. Her casual manner got her through so many situations. "Need a refill or something?" she asked with a grin.
She tossed her hair to one side, exposing a flawless slender neck and a simple silver choker. Her waitress blouse was wet with sweat but not looking terrible. She smelled of a variety of foods, with just a touch of Passion perfume. The sensitive pallet might detect a green apple scent to her. Her voice was tired, almost hoarse, but was still high and light. Below her apron, her skirt was cut high, slit along the left hip just enough to promise a better view of her slender legs, but cut in a way to never quite deliver on that promise. Tabbi had waitressed through high school and had laready learned what made or broke a good tip. She had made a decient living at Hooters for the better part of a year before a fling with one of the other waitresses had ended that gig.
Her little Reboks were dirty, the pink stripes almost too dirty to recognize, they had a lot of miles on them, too many for casual use. To the observant, she was obviously the kind to stay moving, not your typical run of the mill civvie.
"Look, Im sure your just dying from some of Mel's gourmet food..." she said with a sarcastic grin in her voice, "but Im on break, can you give me a couple minutes, Ive got a star I gotta wish upon, 'kay?" she said looking for all the world about as innocent as a kitten. Yeah, she played the lure well, she was good at that.
bloodless_child - September 20, 2005 05:10 PM (GMT)
(she doesn't seem to care about the blood much does she?)
"Mel? Was that the gluttonous pig in the kitchen?'
Wasn't she charming. Rotten eggs with maggot larve were only a level above that sort of generosity. Rin's smile faltered. "You seem to have something on your cheek." Could it be a peice of Mel? Princess could be next if she kept up the sarcasm. Rin placed a bloody finger to her cheek and streaked crimson down and across her mouth like a crooked smile. 'It looks alittle like this.'
Ah, how Nyx would have enjoyed her performance. Rin once castrated a man with her bare teeth before they hung him up in his friends skin from the catwalk of a theatre. Tonight so far was relitively clean.

Tabbi looked at the ketchup on her face. Great, that last burger must have squirted when ding dong handed her the plate. Tabbi shrugged. "Thanks, yesterday I had part of an egg omlet in my hair for hours before anyone said anything." she giggled.
Tabbi wiped her face with the end of her apron. At least this guest was nice enough to say something, most times they just ignored it and she found out later, after looking like an ass for the day. She smiled at her guest. "Hey thanks, really. Id love to talk, but Im afraid skinny is gonna get pissed at me if I dont get back to work. Hes such an ass." she shook her head saddly, a bit of true emotion showing. "Its a job... you know how it is." she said looking up at the sky. "One day its all gonna make sense, ya know?" Tabbi looked over and her expression softenned considerably. "My names Tabitha, thanks, I appreciate your um..." she grinned guestering at the stained apron. "I should get back to work, refils are on me, and Ill see if I can get you a meal, on the house, ok?" she said smiling friendly.
bloodless_child - September 20, 2005 08:39 PM (GMT)
Rin forced a smile. Damn this child was dense. Maybe she would sympathize later, when she was less frustrated at the girl for ruining her fun. She fought the urge to ask the girl if she reconized the stink of the man on his blood. But maybe blondie would come to her senses once she saw him, if not Rin would gladly help along the terror.
"Yeah you shouldn't let men like that get to you, I don't."
Tabitha, huh, Rin suppressed her shock. Most blond women Rin had known in her sad little life went by the name of Ashley or Amy something that ended in a y. They were all Ashley or Amy, never Tabitha.
"That sounds great, I'll let you get back to your money making.' Rin opened the door alittle to let the girl pass.

Tabbi shrugged and walked back in holding her hand up, middle finger raised toward where skinny always stood, trying to get a look down her blouse. She didnt even want to look at him, he was such a pig. "You shouldnt let men get to you..." thats what the lady said. She nodded, sounded wise. She walked round to the pick up window and waited for skinny to slip her another plate, whatever he was cooking was burning. She rang the bell to get his fat face over where she could tell him to hurry his fat ass up. DING!
She waited. Nothing. She looked around. He was probably in back with a magazine or something, the pervert. She walked around to cover the tables, pocketed her tips, wow the lady at table 7 tipped good for such a small order.
Still nothing from skinny. She walked back and found him laying on the grill. She couldnt turn away, like seeing a train wreck, it was so gory it was macabe. She grinned a little. "Dont see that every day do ya tabbi girl?" she giggled. He was dead, or if not he was gonna be wishing he was the way he was stuck to that grill. She looked closer and smelled him burning. "Better get used to that feeling, I have a feeling where your going, your gonna be burning a long time skinny." she said as she slowly walked to the phone to call the cops.
"Great, now Im gonna get fired, or lose my job." she thought. "I neve thought Id ever say Im not happy that skinny is dead, but its gonna be hell to get another gig in this town if anyone thinks I had anything to do with this." she thought. She walked back out and asked for the names of the few guests, and waited till the police arrived. "Shit, now Im even gonna be late getting home, this just sint my day." She sighed and filled out report after report. Finally getting done.
The walk home was cold and lonely. She kept one of the small cutting knives in her pocket, she suspected someone killed skinny. The cops said they were going to have to investigate what happenned. She figured that much, but that also meant they didnt think it was an accident.
Oh well, nothing interesting ever happens in her world, just the same old same...
bloodless_child - September 20, 2005 09:00 PM (GMT)
Rin had left before the cops arrived. No reaction still.
Sometime later Rin would find her, she realized the cooks death made the blond's life easier, still nothing interesting but an improvement. And what no thanks? It was difficult to tell which hurt more, the fact that her efforts were looked over by the idiot, or the fact that the she didn't thank her. Oh the pain.
tabbicat - September 20, 2005 09:12 PM (GMT)
Well, it was early and she was off work far earlier than she had planned, she walked home slowly, not sure exactly what to do with herself, she would go home, get cleaned up, maybe go dancing, might as well spend a little money...
