The headstone glimmered with due under the cold moonlight, engraved lettering on the surface spelt out:
Regina Yvette Hart
1959 - 2000
Beloved mother
Dead flowers hung limply in the cement vase at the base, drops of dew clung to the faded petals, serving as a cold reminder of what lay beneathe. Rin knelt beside the tombstone, so still the only movement was the breeze through her hair. The dead roses felt light in her hand as she took them from the vase replacing them with daffodils. Her fingertips traced the lettering, memories rose off the cool granite soaking into her skin, as she pulled back she bit her pale lips fighting back tears.
It had taken her years to pay for a proper burial, it was the least she could do for her mother who had fought for both of them. Even with her father dead Rin still felt raw about it.
She stood as if she had been pulled up by strings, no trace of mortal in the movement, her long hair fell in her face as she looked down at the ground beneathe her Nikes. Rin pulled her hands out of the pockets of her grey sweater and pulled the waves of dew kissed auburn into a ponytail. Her eyes were all blue as they stared up past the canopy of the oak into the moonlight.
"Happy Birthday Mom."
She stood there in the silence that kept with the dead, staring upward. After all that is where Heaven is right? Where her mother would be looking down at her from right? Vampires were inheritly evil, what she had of her mother was pictures and memories, that would be all.
