The sun echoed off the granite pathway in radiant waves that seemed to swell from the ground. Augustus stood tall, nearly six feet in a quaint and proud posture. In one fluid motion the vampire removed a pack of cigarettes, mouthed one than placed the pack back in his heavy vest. As he lit it, the flame sizzled into the air like asphalt's mirages on a hot summer day.
“I wanted to meet you in the summer, when time can dribble slowly away as the afternoon plods forth. I wanted to meet you when the time could stand still”, he said. “Can you not understand the hesitation in my voice son? I miss you, and you know this.”
Augustus nodded wearily at his father, keeping the brim of his long hat over his watering eyes. He had always dreamt of meeting his father and now that he was sitting before him it felt discomfited.
“Show me your eyes son, you look so pale. Why must you hide from me? You know, blood is thicker than water” he continued, without fear. It would be brainless to fear his own son, his own flesh.
“You need to go home father, Demaitre is unsafe. I am not joking…” concluded Augustus, leaning back, pulling away his hat, peering into the sun. “Go home father.”
Starving and off-balance he rose from a slumber unbefitting however now the more and more common every day. Quietly the tormented Augustus walked to the dresser in the shabby basement he finds shelter form the light. Whispering he shuns his eternal unrest, savoring the burn in his malnourished body, the stale taste of dry blood on his cracked lips. “Go home father, I cant stand the sun."
