Title: Ten Minute Meal
Description: for Andri

Nine ‘o’ clock on a Monday night and he's only just left the school. You'd think that once summer came, a teacher would get a break and things might slow down. No. Mr. Forester was recruited to help with summer school. So, as if is, its on a Monday night. His night to grocery shop but he didn’t make it there because he was in a teachers meeting reviewing the list of kids who are incapable of passing with the rest of their class.
Edward couldn’t recall if there was anything eatable left in his refrigerator so instead of chancing that there wasn’t he’d stopped on his way back to his humble apartment as Petit Paris. He was sitting alone at a table for two with a platter of Fondue Bourguignonne in front of him. It’s sort of a beef salad. Easy, tasty, and takes longer to eat then it does to cook.
Edwards unruly hair is blonde, short around the sides and long on tops, taking almost five years off of his face. He’s hunched over his plate, one arm along one side of it, his elbow on the other side with the fork in the air while he chews. Afraid someone’s going to steal your food dear? He’s drinking ice water and staring emptily at a couple across the room.
His clothing, that had started the day ironed and crisp, are faintly wrinkled. They consist of a pair of black dress slacks and a soft gray oxford style shirt. His boots never change. Dressed up or not his boots are there, scuffed and tired. On one wrist is an inexpensive dress watch and on the table beside his hand, the arm gaurding the food, is a ring of keys.

Andriette and Nicolas sat at the table in Petit Paris, glasses of wine in front of them untouched. Amorisa was probably off hunting somewhere; so the two were sharing time together. Nicolas sat relaxed and laid back in his chair, the calm attitude he'd always had showed in the way he sat. He had his chair on the two back legs, one arm draped over the back, his feet were grazed the ground; he picked up his cup and touched to his lips.
Andriette was his opposite, she was draped across the table. Her blue skirt came to her knees in pleated waves, and her white tank top rested against the placemat. She looked asleep, but soft murmers could be heard; almost always followed by a smile or nod from Nicolas.

They were who Edward was watching. He watched them not out of his inbreed suspicion but out of personal interest and curiosity. Yes, yes, I know, curiosity killed the cat. But Edward isn't a cat. And so far, death has left him alone for his curiosity. He watched the couple because every other couple in the restraunt sat straight backed, politly talking in low voices, enjoying themselves but not relaxing entirly. Restraunts like this weren't exactly for relaxing in.
He watched them because they relaxed. To the maximum they looked relaxed. Drapped across the table like that, Edward had an urge to tell her to sit up and pay attintion. Edward, your teacher is showing. He murmered it under his breath anyways, for any good it did.

Andriette sat up sharply; hearing the teacher's words with her sensitive ears. She might've said something, but Nicolas told her to behave. The girl sat up and looked at the teacher; her sunglasses hiding her eyes. She picked up her wine and swirled it in her hand; before touching it to her lips.
Nicolas looked at Andriette; watching her body language become tense, "Andriette behave yourself in public. I'd hate for you to cause a scene." Andriette put her glass down; and laid her head back down. Nicolas ran his hand through her hair, and whispered something that made the young looking girl giggle cheerfully.

The female lying across the table sat up as the words left his lips and Edwards entire body tensed, matching her body. Only, whatever her reasons were for her to become tense, his was a preperation to flee. His fingers that lay on the table, the left hand, twitched around the keys, cupping them in his hand.
The man's lips moved and she lay back across the table but his own body remained tight across the shoulders, his eyes notably on gaurd. He felt spooked. He felt in trouble. His eyes didn't watch her, they lingered on him. He was in control, so much was obvious. He forced himself to look down at his plate, forced himself to chew the food he'd forgotten was in his mouth. His heart was fluttering in his throat but he forced himself to look calm. And despite the ridged set in his shoulder and his grip around his keys, he managed it.

Andriette had listened to Nicolas' words about giving the poor man a heart attack; she giggled wouldn't that be horrible. She placed her hand on Nic's hand, and rubbed a little circle around one of his knuckles. "We should go look for Amorisa. This is her first outing on her own."
Nicolas chuckled; keeping an eye on the man across the resturant, "She'll be fine she's a big girl." He leaned his chair forward; planting it on all four legs. He whispered in Andriette's ear, "If he runs your going to be the one to chase him, and wipe his memories.”Andriette groaned and kicked him under the table.

He won't run though, not yet. Not because he's brave. He won't run for sake of his pride. It's a natural human quality, pride. Even as he knows no one in this restaurant and was very unlikely to see any of their faces again, he would not let paranoia embarass him.
His eyes, however, did slide back over to the couple. Unfortunatly for him, he realized too late that one was still watching him. He dropped his eyes and called for the check without much meaning of leaving. He'd not decided what to do yet. His car was two shops down.

Nicolas was reading his mind now; finding out details. He wanted to make sure this human didn't know what they were; he didn't want to put his fledglings in danger. Nicolas kicked Andriette under the table; turning his eyes away from the man, Edward, the teacher, he didn't need to keep locking eyes with him; the fortress had already been taken, no more reason to send in spies.
Andriette whined to him about being a bully; then slid one heeled shoe over his leg. Her long legs were tanned; colored by her genetics and not the sun. "I don't think we should worry about leaving yet."

Edward the teacher who was a previous body gaurd and...whose father was killed by a vampire. Maybe thats why he doesn't trust them. Maybe that's whats got him so shaken by their pressance. His murmer and her immediate reaction to that murmer had gotten him paranoid again, then their reactions, the man watching him, it had only confirmed his paranoia. Of course, Edward believes in vampires, the evil foul creatures of hell, but he's never had them prooven to be real.
The check came and Edward slide the wallet from his back pocket, eyes carefully avoiding their table, since he does not know that his memories are already being read, since he doesn't know the man's eyes are no longer on him.

Nicolas grinned at Andriette, and kissed her on the cheek, "I don't know." Mentally he striked her; feeling the man's paranoia he wanted to slap her for arousing the suspicions of this man. He watched her flinch slightly then kissed her again, "I might need to take you out back and beat you.” His whisper was so that Andriette alone could hear it.
Andriette grinned, and picked her head up kissing him on the lips, "I didn't know." Andriette slid her leg off of Nicolas' knee, and grabbed her wine glass, "We should go then."
Nicolas mentally striked her again; picking up his own glass, "We are not going any where. If we leave now it'll seem suspicious."

Edward would have liked if they'd left now. He would have gladly pretend to not be suspicious. But then he wouldn't want to leave the restaurant for fear that they would be waiting for him outside the door.
Damn it Edward, you couldn't just mind your own business.
Yes, he's scolding himself. He took out two bills and dropped them ontop of the check but made no move to leave. Instead, he picked up his fork again. By gods if he'd leave before them. Be damned if he left after. He'd sit here all night and wait for some group to leave with. Some protection of public to get him to his car.
Andriette Morselli - May 29, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
"Why don't you just fix it?" Andriette spoke slowly, her head ached. She dug through the small purse at her side; looking for money for the wine, "I don't want to cause a scene." Andriette grimaced remembering erasing someone's memories usually knocked them out.
"Well then?" Andriette smiled as she pulled the money out of her purse. "I'm ready to leave."
Ashes_to_Ashes - May 29, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
Edward watched them with a gaurded expression. He was suspicious and paranoid but he looked pleasent and sleepy. He couldn't be less tired. He watched her dig through the purse. They hadn't paid their bill for those wine glasses. He got up, leaving his money and a highly overrated tip for the waitress, unwilling to loose this chance to leave, and headed for the door, keys cupped so they did not jungle.
He exited the building and immediatly headed for the so-called saftey of his car.
Andriette Morselli - May 29, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
Andriette put the money on the table, and stood up, "There now can we go? We should check on Amorisa." Nicolas rose slowly, his shoulder didn't feel well. He followed his sassy fledgling out the door; striking her again for her smart mouth. He stopped outside the door, and watched Edward walk to his car. This boy was lucky; in the old days Nicolas would kill him, and Andri would have helped. He followed Andriette to the sidewalk; where they passed by the man's car.

He watched them walk by, standing in the road on the driver's side. When they walked past he got in the truck and locked the doors. Slumping down in his seat until the back of his butt hung off the edge of the seat, he watched their backs over the dashboard.
He must have been wrong. They weren't vampires. They would have attacked him. Edward suddenly felt a wave of heat rush over his face in embarasment of his own paranoia. He sat up and pulled the seatbelt over his chest. Time to go baricade him into the apartment.
