Raymond spent a long, tedious day at his investment banking firm. When he had finished, he longed for something to stimulate his intelligent, if twisted, mind. The Demaitre Cultural Society Gallery and Museum was his favourite place for drawing inspiration from, and generally contemplating, both unusual objects and artwork. He went there, and immediately walked to his favourite painting in the museum, Whistler's 'Nocturne en bleu et argent.'

The feelings this painting evoked in Raymond were numerous. The general darkness and blurry silhouettes of a dock scene stirred sensations of gloom, depression and a certain mystery. This unexplainable attractiveness, despite the darkness, was aided by the distinctive blue-green colour scheme of the painting. He felt that this contradiction summarised himself; he was dark, mysterious and quiet, but still held a certain attractiveness to some women.

He stood in front of the painting for a long time, staring intently at it and letting its influence filter down into the very depths of his soul.
