grottyspawn - November 6, 2005 05:16 AM (GMT)
Haf to work hard it seems

I reckon it's great if it's self chosen & what you want to do, but most of the time it isn't and therefore it sux.

The Encrusted Green - November 6, 2005 12:24 PM (GMT)
yes. it's the reason i'm so staggeringly wealthy

Martin - November 6, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
While I'm actually working I work hard, but I don't like working often, and don't.

birmingham school alumnus - November 6, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
Yes, I pride myself on putting my best foot forward for employers. But, I'll add the provision that you should only do so if your employer acknowledges your hard work, or else you might as well be pissing against a gale force wind.

Smudger - November 6, 2005 08:36 PM (GMT)
No
I would if the job required me to though
But it never does

Dr. Sprtsch - November 7, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
A bit like Martin there. Only work hard in pretty short intervals, but then it's quite efficient. maybe a hard worker but not a long hours worker.

pinhead69 - November 7, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
no thats why im on here during the day, jobs not taxing enough, pays me well enough though....best go and shuffle some more papers!!

Middle Class Rebel - November 7, 2005 02:33 PM (GMT)

Tobydynamik - November 7, 2005 04:51 PM (GMT)
Not as hard as I should... those A-levels aren't going to pass themselves

I work hard at stuff I'm interested in though

chrisgoodhead - November 7, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
I work hard but I don't know what it is that I am doing. This can be frustrating. But I try not to let it worry me.

Hench - November 7, 2005 09:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah. I work hard at the job, work hard at doing stuff at home. Work, work, work. I'm currently working hard to figure out a way to be able to work less.

Obviously this depends on individual circumstances, but the best advice here seems to realise that more money doesn't mean more happiness (on the whole) and that the simple things in life, such as walks in the park and staring at the horizon on the ocean are free. Get rid of the car, you don't need it. Why do you have so many suits? Are ten pairs of shoes really necessary? Second hand toys for the kids are fine: new ones are a rip-off and the toys are going to get wrecked in any case. Home-made soup is more appetising and can be made in large quantities.

precisely! :applaud:

When my employer was sold to a multi national company about 7 years ago the new owners were very interested in maintaining all employees. But I had no interest in a 50 hour week under conditions I didn't like, even if I would retain my very good salary. Therefore I became self employed. Now I earn about 40% less money but I also work about 50% less.

I've never felt better in my (professional) life. :)

This is good advice. Yeah, I have no car, no suits, nothing like that. Just getting by, really. Trying to save and move someplace where we can live work-free for a year, so we can focus on our own creative stuff full-time. I'd like to be self-employed too . . .

How about a poll about, who takes a shit in the morning, or afternoon?

Very interseting.

Okay...you say it's a stupid question. I think it's a fun poll. And there have been one or two posts on here which have tried to say something serious about the subject, if you thought the topic too ridiculous and/or frivolous. As work is one thing which many of us have to do, but at the same time hate doing, I would have thought it was a topic worth addressing. Doesn't that seem reasonable to you?

Hanley Played a Fender P - November 8, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
Sorry. I agree. I it fun.

Do you ever sleep Martin?

Hanley Played a Fender P - November 8, 2005 08:29 PM (GMT)
By the way. I hate my job. That's why I had a problem with the poll.

Yes. About 6 hours a night.

Middle Class Rebel - November 8, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
Ah THATS better... :)

Boggis - November 8, 2005 08:55 PM (GMT)
I've just started a twelve hour night shift and am at this moment working very hard. In fact those of you who stay up late tonight will see how hard i work , by the amount of time i spend logged on to this forum. Also think any line or question by M.E.S is worthy of a poll or discussion.

cupid's bullet - November 25, 2005 07:28 PM (GMT)
Yes, I do, and I thoroughly enjoy working for me.

6 or 7 days a week, depending on how busy we are. I worked 63 days on the trot to get the business up and running and even now, nearly 14 years later, I sometimes go 3-4 weeks without a break.

Someone has to.

How did they react and is it going to affect your dole? (presumably yes...)

They were OK about it really, first they offered to find me a different job but were unable to find anything because they couldn't do any training, which they do in batches when they have a batch of new starters. They are recruiting again shortly and they have told me to apply, then I can get the different job. It's a funny state of affairs, but they mean it. I don't care all that much if it doesn't work out, I'm still going to look around elsewhere. I won't get any dole money because I left voluntarily, but I'm prepared to put up with that.

ah, i'd missed this.

only asked because i felt cursed by this line from the extricate album when i was doing my undergraduate dissertation, then it came back to haunt me recently on fhr when i was trying to do my masters thesis.

it never actually occured to me that mes might have been talking about proper paid work.

Haven't been working hard enough lately. :(

Or is that

No.

It sometimes starts out as :finger: , but every time I get in late (almost everyday at the moment) I think :banghead:, and I personally feel :ohdear: given how hard others work.

Thop Daverty - July 8, 2009 05:49 PM (GMT)
I'm  with myself but then when I work hard sometimes I end up feeling <_< about my employer. But not working hard can be :zzzz: and I don't feel like I deserve a  at the end of a working day.

Ah well, just have to  while I work (even if it's in my head) and remember I could be in something that makes me a lot more  .
