Title: Ride Away
Description: Yay or Nay - a-hey hey
worthless recluse - October 7, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
I like it, it's an unusual choice to open the album, but I think it works...

Excellent song, great opener.

ditto.
Couldn't see it fitting anywhere else.
kiespijn - October 8, 2005 10:08 AM (GMT)
Fantastic song from start to finish. Can't get enough of it.
They're all so sparing with everything they play, but at the same time, so generous :girl2:
Felix - October 8, 2005 10:41 AM (GMT)
Who votes for 'it's weak'? Notice they haven't got the guts to pipe up here. Great song and great opener. Especially the way he never seem to have enough time to say the lines.

strifeknot - October 8, 2005 10:48 AM (GMT)
It's less than weak. Saying it's weak is an insult to weaklings. The whole fucking album is almost as bad. TRNFLP was an aberration, it's back to not-giving-a-shit-just-crank-it-out-and-pay-me-because-I-deserve-it mode. As useless a dinosaur as any dottering old Jagger or McCartney.
Spazzy Bystander - October 8, 2005 01:16 PM (GMT)
I like it a lot, but I think it might have been better somewhere in the middle of the album... A bit of a 'white relief' after Blindness or something...
scratch - October 8, 2005 01:49 PM (GMT)
I like it a lot--great choice for an opener. If I'd never heard the Fall before and someone put this on, I'd instantly be intrigued. A lo-fi, catchy thing with this weird sounding singer over it...I'd want to know more right away.
usrlocal - October 8, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
Brilliant choice for an opener. Definite piss-take. A song like this (and even its title is suggestive in this sense) would normally close an album.
FAT BLOB - October 8, 2005 04:48 PM (GMT)
it's a good song. I only wish the rest of the album was like it instead of this fucking power chord shit.
clayts - October 8, 2005 07:43 PM (GMT)
It's spot on - as I've already mentioned elsewhere, any song which kicks off an album which doesn't sound owt like the rest is top dollar - eg Frenz :)
High Tension Line - October 8, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
Divvey - October 9, 2005 10:13 AM (GMT)
TommyTourette - October 9, 2005 12:16 PM (GMT)
Haven't got the time for this song. I find it extremely dull which is a pity because I think that most of this album is superb-except Trust in Me-which sounds like a awful Foo Fighters cover.
Harry Lime - October 9, 2005 12:44 PM (GMT)
I didn't get it to start with, but I like it now.
It would be great with a couple of guitarists.

I always liked the way Frenz kicked off that lp also, however, I feel that FE is one of their weaker albums.
Not so FHR though I must add. Ride Away is just OK, I like the idea of starting off with this kind of track. What I do particularly like is the almost playful way MES sings this song -- Hey , hey.
The Encrusted Green - October 9, 2005 05:53 PM (GMT)
it's okay. he's making those lyrics up on the spot, isn't he?

played the album to a couple of mates last night
one of whom had never heard the fall before
they both liked the album
and when it was on for the second time :ohdear:
both thought the 1st track was best
also big ups for aspen blindness and early days of channel furher
from them

 Naaahhh. It's quite structured. Were these not the lyrics he sang live before?
fallfandave - October 10, 2005 08:24 PM (GMT)
he might have already had the lyrics... but it is not structured at all... he's all over the place.
Dice Man - October 11, 2005 10:08 AM (GMT)
Unusual but a fine idea for an opener, I would say.
pinhead69 - October 11, 2005 01:28 PM (GMT)
i like it but i wouldn't have it as an opener to be honest i'd have put blindness there.
tin helmet on!!! :zip:

Me too. Get the weak ass version of Blindness outta the way early, I say.
Tin Helmet, Riot Shield and Full Body Armour on ^_^

I played the album to some uninitiated frenz.
Ride Away - is this a fucking joke??? :o
Pacifying Joint - That's more like it!
Quite reassuring really :D

Revived poll alert!!!
I think the consensus is it's sort of alright, really, but people have heard better.
You know, nothing special.
Meh.
Buy Kurious! - December 12, 2008 04:53 PM (GMT)
I'd say it's good, rather than Ok.
Not brilliant, obviously.
There isn't a Fall song that strikes me as being poor, to be honest.

Mostly agree with this sentiment. Ride Away is an exceptionally weak song, opener or otherwise. And FHR is the only Fall studio album that seems worse to me as time goes by, rather than better.
