Title: Unreleased live

Stephen - July 4, 2005 09:12 PM (GMT)
An update of Martin's previous unreleased tracks poll. Your favourite and why please.

Martin - July 4, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
I'd love to see if anyone votes for Race Hatred. Does anyone on this board remember this song?

Martin - July 4, 2005 09:17 PM (GMT)
However, it's Crackhouse for me...

octophone - July 4, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
Excluding everything from Bo Doodak onwards due to the fact that they are going to be on the new LP, I'd say "Surrogate Mirage". Amazing to think that this was only played once as it sounds so well rehearsed and structured. Would have improved "Room To Live", that's for sure....

Then there's the near-mythical Landslide Victory.
And was Classical Gas really ever played?

I can always delete those vote options when the tracks come out.

Re: Surrogate Mirage, maybe someone pointed out that Heroin had already been released by the Velvet Underground and so didn't need to be released again by The Fall.

Martin - July 4, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
Now you're forcing me to go and listen to Surrogate Mirage and Heroin again...and it's already late after a long day. It's a cruel world.

Now we are being set exam-type questions!!

Hmm...maybe yes, is the answer...though I think it would have needed more work...and don't ask me exactly what, as my name isn't MES!

Gaz - July 4, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
Won't vote for stuff (possibly) lined up for the new Lp....

Gone for Hey! Marc Riley - Studio Demo, not the live take.

Middle Mass Explanations perhaps the strongest on the list, but it's not an entirely 'new' song so I didn't vote for it.

My Conditions class, too :applaud:

up2much - July 4, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
It was a toss betwen Jet Boy and Bo Doodak, so to speak. Went with BD in the end even ntho there're a few there that I haven't heard..(Surrogate Mirage sounds good)..Bo Doodak is such a BRILLIANT Fall opener, same could be said of Jet Boy, but it jst about edges it for me.

Smudger - July 4, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
I've only heard Bo Doodak onwards

up2much - July 4, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
Almost the same here actually. You gotta hear Jet Boy!

Smudger - July 4, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
I feel it coming on....

But why does it rule, Fallchase?

BEZENBY - July 5, 2005 08:00 AM (GMT)
Jet boy or Crackhouse for me

The only one I've not heard is Classical Gas - what does that sound like

the beat to the song is phenominal, and the lyrics are cool, and i hope they play this song when they cross over the pond. other then that, next favorite is walk like a man because they played that song live when i saw them and i knew it before i even heard of the fall, and i like the way the fall did it and its all good and happy and so on and so on

Larry Pants - July 5, 2005 07:21 PM (GMT)
I would like to hear all of these.....especially Race Hatred

fallchase - July 5, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
its a good one thats for sure

octophone - July 5, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)
Is the sketch with "Classical gas" not that Ben started playing it during an MES offstage/amp fiddling /otherwise engaged moment and the others joined in as best they could - an impromptu jam rather than an actual attempt at a cover? If someone better informed than I could come in and contradict/clarify.....

I'm a bit perplexed on this as I'm sure Simon Ford asserts that no tape survives of "Race Hatred" or "You Don't Turn Me On" but their appearance in this poll suggests that there is and folks here have copies.....

I know nobody with a copy of Race Hatred. Simon Ford may or may not say no tape exists...probably one doesn't but we live in blind hope...mind you, Mr Ford got one or two things wrong in his book...as we all would...

I would have loved to have seen Wishart back then.

You Don't Turn Me On exists on circulating tapes/CDs.

We're hoping to make at least some of these available on the new multimedia pages, although we may have a problem with some of the cover versions (eg Jet Boy)

BEZENBY - July 10, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
Race Hatred - Not heard

You Don't Turn Me On - is this the 30 second snippet I have somewhere?

Brand New Cadillac - or is this that 30 second snippet?

My Condition - Make it snappy - standard early piece

Pop Stickers - Question: if this is supposed to be a C Scanlon tune, how come it's played live by M Brama?

Jumper Clown - Class tune

Midd Mass Exp - okay tune...

Surrogate Mirage - Fuckin magic...underdeveloped...but almost symphonic in places

(Don't like Maggie in here eh?)

He Talks - Like Draygo's guilt

Hey M Riley - Bo Doodak?

Countdown - lovely stuff...middle eight sounds out of place though

Crackhouse - Nagle rules ookay

Jet Boy - I put this on a lot. Motivating tune

Classical Gas - what's this like???????

Walk like a man - there's an indie tune out now that sound like a rip off of this cover

Bo Doodak - Hey M Riley?

the rest - we shall hear of them soon, eh?

fallchase - July 11, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
jet boy is not really as good as the ny dolls one

Stephen - September 29, 2005 01:34 PM (GMT)
Vote options updated.

Harry Lime - September 29, 2005 05:00 PM (GMT)
Walk Like a Man always puts a great big smile on my face.

Stephen - March 17, 2006 08:53 PM (GMT)
Updated again.

sigma - October 16, 2008 05:41 PM (GMT)
I'm guessing someone must have produced a ranking before now: which are the best live recordings without an official release?
How about someone who knows how to do these things setting up a poll?

DJAsh - October 16, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Hungry Freaks Daddy?

snoweyuk - October 16, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Ponto.

Sino-Chino flapjack

Dice Man - October 16, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)
From the list Surrogate Mirage. Crackhouse close behind. And yes, Ponto. Islington 2007. You know it makes sense.

SonofAlways - October 17, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
Were you taking about complete gigs by any chance sigma?

If so, there are probably too many to list. Lots of A-minus or above recordings out there...

Mere Pseud. - October 18, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
Glad that many of these songs got released on last year's box set. However it's a pity that MES vetoed the inclusion of the two best non studio songs, Surrogate Mirage and Crackhouse. Must have voted for the former a long time ago. Two years ahead of Disney's Dream Debased, arguably the first real contemplative Fall song ever released (unless you count Iceland). Surrogate Mirage could have evolved into a real Fall classic. :(

Currently Chino Splashback seems to improve steadily, especially considering the recent Aberdeen gig. I wonder how it will turn out on the next album. You'll never know...
