The Marshall Suite for me. :D

Although albums like the 27 Points, could easily challenge it, although I believe it just has that edge.

athlete not cured - April 5, 2005 03:16 PM (GMT)
Infotainment Scan for me thanks B)

well if we're including 27 points you can bump it up to number one on my list. that album kept me sane during a sweltering, drunken, relationship breaking 3 months in london in 1995.

me and me housetramp - April 5, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
The Infotainment Scan was the very first fall album i ever listened to.
So i choose this one.

Next would be:

Code:Selfish ('cause it was the first i bought)
Middle Class Revolt (that one blew me away)
Shift Work (for Shiftwork)
Extricate ('cause of its sound)

the rest havn't infected me that much 'til now

Drjohnrock - April 6, 2005 05:16 AM (GMT)
1. Cerebral Caustic
2. The Light User Syndrome
3. Levitate
4. The Marshall Suite
5. Code: Selfish

3. Light User
4. Marshall

9. Code: Selfish

I do like them all. Quite a bit.

I_Am_Not_Appreciated - April 6, 2005 09:29 AM (GMT)
My task for the day: listen to Infotainment again. LUS is in 2nd place so you lot must know what you are talking about.

Granny On Bongos - April 6, 2005 09:39 AM (GMT)
Levitates is tops. The rest are in an ever shuffling pack.

My task for the day: listen to Infotainment again. There must have been something I missed with that one. Then again LUS in 2nd place signifies to me that you lot don't know what you're on about.

If any two people here have even the same top five (in any order) I'll be greatly surprised, thus proving that none of us know what we're talking about.

It'll hurt if you sit on that fence for too long :P

Dr. Sprtsch - April 6, 2005 11:21 AM (GMT)
One of the last three.
In the end I voted Marshall, though LUS is probably a more solid album.

JTosti2 - April 6, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
it's all good of course...in upwards order...

10. Marshal Suite
I like most of this, especially side 1 and "Mad Eng".
9. Cerebral Caustic
8. Middle Class Revolt
both interchangeable as far as "rank"...MCR has the better songs, CC has better spirit. not bad albums by any stretch...the only misgiving I have is the production or mastering. they sound very digital to me, cold. a definite oversight.
7. Infotainment Scan
6.Shift Work
stripped down, song oriented - great.
5.The Light User Syndrome
mixed bag - all good. MES lyrics real focussed.
4.Extricate
vinyl version only - it sounds very different (crappy) on CD.
3.Code: Selfish
The Fall can whip out a midperiod Stones regular rock lp better than the Stones ever did, of course. That bass on TwoFace sez it all!
2. 27 Points
1. Levitate
MES had said early on that someday he might do away w/ lyrics altogether and instead emit emotive noises. Success at last!

warren - April 6, 2005 03:17 PM (GMT)
Middle Class Revolt, the lp that got me back from the wilderness, played it non stop for months in the car going to and from Manchester when I worked there.Happy Days!!!!

wow, many people here would rate this as a poor fall album. some even lost interest in the band around this time. its refreshing to hear from someone with a differing opinion. which tracks would you call your favourites warren?

JonN - April 6, 2005 03:55 PM (GMT)
Actually, I thought MCR was "the best album of 1994", at the time. But it pales next to the other Fall albums.

In one of his last interviews whilst still in the band, Steve Hanley was asked about whether he thought the band ever underachieved and he said "well, MCR wasn't very good, and CC wasn't as good as it could have been".

warren - April 6, 2005 04:23 PM (GMT)
Faves are 'Behind The Counter','M5' and 'Hey Student' which has to be the finest 'Fall while driving' track of all time!!!
In fact these 3 would probably make my top ten of all Fall tracks to date.

freeranger - April 6, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
behind the counter and m5 are definitely two of the best on there, i'd throw citydweller in too. i find hey student a bit throwaway but don't doubt you on it being good for driving

Gaz - April 6, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)

How do you know I dont like the pain......?

Its one way of dealing with them damn haemmorhoids (or however you spell it...)

Green - April 6, 2005 09:50 PM (GMT)
Been listening to Infotainment Scan a lot lately, which is my vote.

I_Am_Not_Appreciated - April 6, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
I thought MCR was great at the time, although the Fall were quite new to me in 1994 and there was a lot of catching up to do. Instead of comparing it to the rest of the bands output, I compared it with whatever Blur or Oasis had released that year, so it wasn't so much of a disappointment to me. It probably hasn't stood the test of time as well as most Fall albums though.

Currently listening to Infotainment as promised. It is quite good isn't it? Nowhere near as good as LUS though.

The Eccles Connection - April 6, 2005 10:08 PM (GMT)

I only went and listened to LUS this morning. Turns out its bloody brilliant. Must need 10 listens before it all clicks. I will now edit all derogotary comments I made about this album on this thread

I always find these things difficult as a change my mind each day. Not suprised to see Levitate or Infotainment doing well. I've never really been that big a fan of Infotainment though - there's some great stuff on it, and it's by no means the worst of the decade, but I'm not that keen on most of the covers on it and I just find 'Its a Curse' really dull. So today I think I'll put them in this order:

1. Levitate
2. Light User Syndrome
3. Shiftwork
4. Code:Selfish
5. Marshall Suite
6. Infotainment Scan
7. Cerebral Caustic
8. Extricate
9. Middle Class Revolt

I'm probably about as accurate as Michael Fish but there you go

squarehead - April 8, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
Each album has moments of greatness, but seeing these listed together I'd have to admit this was a lean period.

Delete one or two tracks from each to make vinyl albums--not CDs

It is quite obvious:

LEVITATE
MARSHALL SUITE
CEREBRAL CAUSTIC
LIGHT USER SYNDROME
INFOTAINMENT SCAN
CODE:SELFISH
SHIFT-WORK

(EXTRICATE and MIDDLE CLASS REVOLT are tied for the least of all Fall albums...tho' I hate putting it that way. Every one is something to have and enjoy.)

Gaz - April 8, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
What am i missing about Levitate?
