Joker Hysterical Face has always struck me as a quintessential Fall moment. The riff is sublime, the tension as the music builds, the lyrics - scrabousness at its most pointed - are memorable, and the repetition of "Your Face" at the climax of the song makes this a true Fall classic

of his solo stuff

I've been given the Batman movie for Christmas! :applaud:
Probably one of the funniest films ever made. I watched it with my two young kids who were both pissing themselves laughing as well. Funny that, I used to think that it was scary when I was their age.
I voted for Riddler. A fine track that contributes in large part to the masterpiece that is Bend Sinister.

I agree wholeheartedly. Riddler has always been a favourite as has BS as a whole.
Perhaps I should start a "seaside town related songs" thread so we can vote for
Bournemouth runner.

Imperial Wax Solvent should be added to this, surely?
Joker Hysterical Face is both a great title (the best of the list) and a great song.
Riddler is the best song, though; so I votes fer that.

I was just looking at my Bend Sinister sleeve - love the picture of Joker, especially considering Riddler! is the track on the album.

I love everything about the BS sleeve.
Batmobile is Dead?
Daggerfall96 - July 8, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
I voted "Two Face", tho I LOVE all of BS very very much.
I chose TF cos MES said it was about him and cos it has the best sounding keyboard phrase in the history of rock. Ever heard a descending keyboard refrain that seems to get louder and more piercing with each note? Me neither.
Take a bow, Bush Baby.

Wasn't The Monk one of the earliest Batman villains? This could explain Mark's affection for a certain 60s group (besides the tremendous music of course).
as for the poll: Joker Hysterical Face

The play photographed in the below ad for 'Grotesque' was called 'The Joker' (thanks to SonofAlways), but it had nothing to with Batman, obviously.

Curiously, this photo is very much how I've always envisioned a certain infamous scene in a New York hotel room, early one morning in April 1998...

Two-Face?
False Face, surely?
DJAsh - July 17, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
The new Batman movie is getting some rave reviews.
The Crept Mist Vandal - July 23, 2008 10:18 AM (GMT)
'Is This New' sounds a wee bit like the 'Batman' theme from the 60's TV show.

Hi,
Just watched an old Adam West Batman episode. Called "The Ring of Wax" it based around the riddler and his use of Universal Wax Solvent. Plenty of smoking tubes but no exploding chimneys.
