Went for F'oldin Money...class track

Would have gone for "im a mummy" but not sure its country OR rockabilly...
Never heard the origanal tho so correct me if im wrong.

ghostly neutrino - November 22, 2004 11:28 PM (GMT)

Oops how could you forget F-oldin Money, a cover of Tommy Blake's obscure rockabilly classic!

ghostly neutrino - November 22, 2004 11:29 PM (GMT)

sorry, it's already listed, my bifocals slipped

fallchase - November 22, 2004 11:35 PM (GMT)
F-Oldin Money makes me want to get in a fight

S5 not Manc - November 22, 2004 11:43 PM (GMT)
F'oldin money.
Every time.

Green - November 23, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
F-Oldin' Money, gotta admit though, I find myself singing Houston a lot.

Glam Rick - November 24, 2004 02:38 AM (GMT)
i really wouldn't call mummy country or rockabilly...

ghostly neutrino - November 24, 2004 02:50 AM (GMT)

that's right, and the original was fueled by finger poppin beatnik mania. Certainly not a country onto hicks

How about Hands Up Billy! That rockabilly swagger for sure.

Where's Pinball Machine?

chrisgoodhead - November 29, 2004 09:53 AM (GMT)
Maybe it's finally been outlawed due to the likelyhood of passing truckers wasting all their money on it, forcing them to subsist only on sardines and deserting their wives and kids who subsequently die?

Martin - November 29, 2004 07:19 PM (GMT)
What most of these ditties have in common for me is their general sheer awfulness.

Harry Lime - December 2, 2004 02:12 PM (GMT)

Has The Fall to anyone's knowledge ever covered "Uranium Rock"?

On that note, can anyone recommend any versions of it other than the original and the Cramps' cover?

I'm obsessed with this song.

probably not useful, (i don't know of any other cover versions), but on the Atomic Platters compilations, there's a bunch of other uranium themed tunes from the fifties and sixties:

Just Waiting for me. Jungle Rock and Jingle Bell Rock are the only songs among these I've heard before the Fall versions. I think it generally plays an important role which version you experience first, regardless whether it's the original or a cover.

Rollin' Dany must have been the first ever officially released cover version. I remember being a bit pissed off in 1985 because I insistingly wanted my favourite bands to stick to originals then. Glad I've become more open-minded in the meantime, especially as there have been a few more covers since...

I carelessly voted for 'White Lightning', and now wished I'd gone with 'F-oldin Money', but they're both good.

I generally enjoy these rockabilly covers, and original Fall ones, but draw the line at shite such as 'Last Chance To Turn Around'.

Faust Banana - February 7, 2009 01:25 PM (GMT)
F-oldin' Money, I think.

Whoever said it makes you want to fight is bang on.

What the devil is F-oldin' exactly?

Though I really love I'm A Mummy. One of the best from Levitate.

Rollin dany isnt bad.
Folding money is paper as opposed to chinking coins.
I heard a live Kick the can that was pretty darn good.

More valuable than coins, paper money is foldable.

On that note, the "eagle flies on Friday": payday in the form of paper money stamped with an American eagle.

Here's Bob Dylan doing Uranium Rock, on youtube. Same sort of tune but the lyrics sound a lot different.

"Stay Away (Old White Train)"
It is also my fave among the songs where MES isn't the lead singer. Love the intertwining of voices. :)

lukeman - February 23, 2009 02:49 PM (GMT)
i only have to read the words 'rollin dany' and the song is instantly stuck in my head for the entire day.
think stay away and pinball machine are particularly cool as well

lukeman - February 23, 2009 02:53 PM (GMT)
