Title: Brix
Description: What's she up to, like?

rikki nadir - August 19, 2004 11:28 AM (GMT)
I'm sure you've done this, but you lot must know. She turned up in a 'where are they now?' query on another site.

No one seems to know, apart from a rumour that she is selling shoes in an upmarket shop in London.

I thought she was living at Conway's house.

It seems she's been doing some work with Marty Willson-Piper, according to his website..

But she seems to be mainly running a clothes shop called Start with her husband:

Should have called it 'The Last Clean-Dirty Shirt Out Of The Wardrobe' of course.

Don't want to appear picky, but why is she still calling herself "Smith"?

fallchase - August 19, 2004 06:45 PM (GMT)
wouldnt you if you were married to mes.

Because she is a smart cookie, and realised that if she called herself 'Brix E Start' people would realise it is an anagram of 'Sex Rib Tart'.

Thanks for the updated news, by the way, dd.

fallchase - August 19, 2004 08:16 PM (GMT)
i think shes married again too.

Did you think she was married again because I said she was running a shop with her husband?

Or was it some sort of *special* insight?

Stephen - August 25, 2004 08:05 AM (GMT)
Does anyone else recall Brix appearing on Terry Wogan's weekday-nights chatshow 'Wogan', loitering around in the background whilst Nigel Kennedy performed something useless on a violin?

I'm hoping I didn't dream the whole thing...

worthless recluse - August 25, 2004 12:15 PM (GMT)
She appeared with Kennedy on the Irish chat show The Late Late Show too.

REX - August 25, 2004 12:35 PM (GMT)
So does Brix have UK citizenship? Did she automatically get it by marrying British guys, or did she earn it over time by working in bands? What about Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna, same deal? How does one gain UK citizenship?

fallchase - August 25, 2004 02:05 PM (GMT)
i thought that she married fallfandave and had children with him.

don't understand the hyphen - makes it sound like she's the offspring of MES and mr. start. has anyone ever heard of joining your current and ex-husbands names like this?

Brix Smith is on ITV1 7th August 10pm

She's escorting Barry out of Eastenders from Extras around Paris fashion week as he prepares to do a stand up comedy gig for them.

A bit OT I know, but I thought I saw Brix as a judge on a dog show a couple of months ago. It was on Animal Planet and called "Top Dog" or something.
It had dogs performing tricks and obedience stuff before a panel of three judges, and one of the judges looked and sounded a lot like Brix. She had a small pug with her, by the way. I came in late in the show, so I didn't catch the presentation of the judges.

Pretty bizarre if it was her...

Aubrey The Cat - July 18, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
It was her. The pug is called Gromit.

Carrie Bagg-Mann - July 19, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
.....and it's not all *that* bizarre, really. Brix likes her pugs,so it seems quite appropriate that she should be on this kind of show. Plus she's not actually been in The Fall for about 18 years.

You know who I think Brix will look like in a few years's time? Jennifer Coolidge.

Nail Soup - August 28, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
Just seen Brix on TV in her new life as a fashion person.

It was in the ITV series where a stand up comedian has to entertain an unusual audience.

In this case it was Shaun "Barry from Eastenders" Williamson doing the fashion world.
Unlike some of the others in the series, he's not really a succesful stand up.

Brix was the main person introducing him to the fashion world.

At the end he told a bunch of lame jokes to the fashion people. Not many laughs.

At the end Brix said he was reallt funny.

By the way Frank Skinner has been in this series.

And Brix has put on weight.

Did nobody else see this then? (All hail post-football inertia).

Buy Kurious! - August 29, 2007 05:47 PM (GMT)
I switched off halfway through. The entire series has been with possibly the least funny comedians on the planet and last night was no exception.

I don't think you can joke about the fashion world as it's too much of a joke to begin with.

It would have been more interesting if Frank Skinner had done this instead of the New Age commune he was sent to. I don't think Barry even knew who she was.

I think Brix has got really beautiful eyes
She seems out of place in the fashion world to me.

you can watch a clip of the show at the ITV website -

Daggerfall96 - August 31, 2007 06:39 AM (GMT)
What about her voice - still as life-affirmingly spirited?
(can't access the TV clip..)

Only time I've seen her in recent years was on J Peel's 45 box. That was a good show, despite all those 7''s by Peel's illegitimate son Jack Stripe (Ohh compare Mr White to photos of Peel at his age and tell me they're not related).

Meanwhile, BRIX, you are still missed internationally....
