Title: Christmas Presents
Description: What a good idea...
claudia - November 23, 2009 02:38 PM (GMT)
Rather than always talking about what we would like, let's share some really good ideas of presents we have found for other people.
This morning I got this book delivered from Amazon. It's for a muso-minded friend of mine - much like a lot of the people on the forum. It's very funny and will certainly make him chuckle on Christmas Day.

Um, yeah, please post as many good ideas as possible. All but one member of my family has had a birthday in the past month and, having used up my present ideas for them, I'm utterly stumped for what to get them for xmas.

Ideas for 9- and 7-year old children please.
Haven't seen my nephew and niece for bloody ages. I take it they're past the colouring book stage by now?
Orphistic - November 23, 2009 02:51 PM (GMT)
Ben 10 seems to be the craze for boys at the moment Zoot, as for girls I have no idea. An electronic pet prehaps?

no offense Orph but Ben 10 is very 2007... nowadays it's all about Ben 10 Alien Force [characters are 5 years older and way cooler]

Ben 10 is shit, don't get him any of that.
If he likes football get him the latest Fifa or PES for his console, if he's got one.
Young lads love Star Wars as well. There is a great selection of Star Wars lego that is great.
A Chelsea home shirt with the name Lampard on the back is always a great gift for any young child as well.
For dads - whiskey and hardcore porn, mums - gin and a rampant rabbit.
Sorted.

All I want for christmas is a Dukla Prague away kit.
A Worried Man - November 23, 2009 03:34 PM (GMT)
When I had young nieces and nephews I just used to ask the parents. When they are that age there is normally no shortage of things they want.
Now they are grown up I still have to get something for them, for some reason. I normally just get them something stupid but hopefully fun. The niece normally gets some sort of musical instrument as she is quite musical- a jaw harp this year. It gets harder though.
If in doubt get something to eat or drink. However, my Mother is a nightmare to buy for- she is diabetic so I can't get her chocolates or anything like that.

Aye, all bright children love Lego. And if he's 9 then he's probably mad for the mini-figures; the little Lego people. There's an official Lego shop in Brighton, isn't there? They probably do the mini-figure packs, which are difficult to get in the usual toy shops. They do themed collections: trolls, knights, Star Wars stormtroopers etc. Or a magnet set, which will be 3 or 4 mini-figures on magnetic bricks. I know my own 9 yr old would be chuffed with something like that. All under a tenner as well, btw.

It seems they dissappeared in the mid 90's due to poor results and such like (admin?).
But apparently they're back, and were up in the Czech second division by 2007.

Lego Powerminers are the 'it' toy for 9-10 year old boys round this way, but you're a bit further West ...maybe they've not reached East Sussex yet.
My daughter of 8 likes nothing better than standing in front of the mirror singing into a felt tip or brush and kids like technology younger and younger, so, karaoke mike? MP3 player? Pop Party 7 CD?

:grrr:
Btw, it's off topic, but it needs posting:
Starsky-Tandoori - November 24, 2009 01:27 PM (GMT)
West of Kent, East Sussex, where Zoot is, is what I mean, though his nephew and niece may not be from there.
Power Miners at work, up the hoover in a second, and bits of them stuck to your foot for months after.
My Balloon - November 24, 2009 01:37 PM (GMT)
At the risk of this thread descending into a discussion about Lego I have to say Powerminers suck, Star Wars lego is where it's at. You can get all the characters in various sets, the newest one is the assault on the Hoth base which has han riding a tauntaun. My favourite was Jabba the Huts palace, with slave girl leia in lego.
Ultra cool, and even cuter, is the Spongebob lego sets. Only available by mail order I think. Get one with Patrick and Spongebob, and maybe Gary, and that would make any young folk's xmas.
