I added Earth's Hex (it was about 3rd on their 2005 list)

I've only heard the John Fahey and the Wire ones, so John Fahey.

Akron/Family are wonderful as is this record.
Second fave is Earth, but dont think this is thier best LP.

I listened to some Jackie O Motherfucker the other day cos I liked the name. If 15-minute long cuts of a few people gently tapping on bottles and dragging chairs across the floor is avant-garde, then they are it. <_<

Somehow Avant Rock seems like a typical Wire (the magazine) term to me. -_-

Anyway, the only two albums from this list I've heard in full are by Sonic Youth and Wire (the band). Voting for the second time within 24 hours for "Murray Street" doesn't bother me at all because it's my favourite SY album of the last 20 years together with the slighly superior "A Thousand Leaves".

I would be interested to hear more music than hitherto by Comets On Fire, Akron/Family and Earth. However foremost I should explore Sir Richard Bishop judging by excerpts from this year's "The Freak Of Araby".

No, I haven't heard them all. Tempted to go for the mighty Youth (that album is really great), but variety makes the world go round and so it's gotta be Earth. I still remember when I first heard this one and was quite speechless. And btw, it doesn't sound like »complicated« avantgarde, at least not to me.
