'Tales Of The Funky' off Sons Of The P is a superb song at least.
Starsky-Tandoori - November 22, 2009 06:34 PM (GMT)
I really, really love, Hank Williams.

How can someone who likes such excellent and varied music channel that love into making such dishwater records?
flickeringlexicon - November 22, 2009 07:32 PM (GMT)
You'd think, considering the title of her new album, that Jones would have a song up there by Das Grüppen... <_<
Voted Violent Femmes.

I just had to look up who Norah Jones is.

My thoughts too.
Been listening to Bill Evans a lot just recently, gets my vote.

Hank Williams is great, Norah is another story.
A Worried Man - November 23, 2009 03:40 PM (GMT)
Actually, I quite like her new single.

Hank inevitably succeeds in melting my cold cold heart.
Norah's bland and insipid cover leaves me unaffected.

Voted for the excellent Willie Nelson album over the relatively undistinguished single track by the undeniable Hank Williams.
Edit: The only song I've ever heard by N. Jones is "Don't Know Why", which I'd rate a superb track, even though I've never been compelled to investigate further.

I bought one of her first singles. Possibly that one, I can't actually remember what it was called.
EDIT: Yes, that was the one:

There was a programme about Shirley Bassey on last night and she'd written one of the songs for Shirley Bassey's new album. She seemed really nice and her song sounded good, too, but Shirley Bassey hated it, and it was the one that went through the biggest change (other songs were by the Pet Shop Boys, Manic Street Preachers and Gary Barlow).

She's rich enough to have Shirley Bassey killed.

Another chap they had on was Richard Hawley. Again I'd heard lots about him, but heard nothing by him. His song sounded okay, too.
The one that was clearly supposed to bring the house down -- the PSB one -- was a bit shit, I thought.

I can't imagine why these people bother with Shirley Bassey. She's just a sort of irrelevant ageing gay totem. I suppose I can see why the Pet Shop Boys might want to be associated with her on some kind of gay conceptualism basis (Dusty... tick... Bassey.... tick), but Norah Jones?! Norah Jones sells more albums in an hour than Shirley Bassey has in 50 years.

Perhaps Norah isn't thinking in terms of sales. In the programme she said it was a wonderful opportunity to write for Bassey. Then again if she's as big as you say she can't have taken too kindly to them messing with her song. Shirley changed the lyrics and everything.
Best was seeing Shirley trying to get the Manics' lyrics to scan.
