Title: Ponto
Description: the song

deedee1o1 - November 20, 2009 07:35 PM (GMT)
Whatever happened to the song "Ponto" ? It was played live a number of times in 2007, then seemed to disapear. Do you think:

A: It will have a magical resurrection on the new "Our future your clutter" album.

B: It has morphed into another song. (If so, which one?)

C: It is gone forever.

D: Who cares about Ponto? The song sucked.

E: None of the above. (Explain why)

F. Treat PR, security people, agents, etc. with the respect and honour that they deserve.

Gone. Along with the guys who wrote it. But maybe not forever.

Maybe MES just didn't rate it highly enough?

You can hear a snippet of it here (not great quality, though):

I suppose Ponto's gone the way of all the other "performed live but never released songs".

Backdrop, Pilsner Trail, Crackhouse, The Boss, etc. etc. :(

The complete unrecorded list would make a good compilation.

It will appear on the 8th disc of a Fall compilation in 2013. The 8th disc will comprise of previously unheard of live versions of songs. Hanley P will be credited for all of them and will receive financial reward for his efforts, which he will pass to his other half to spend in Next and other clothes retailers.

;)

'Pontus' or 'Pontos' are Greek words for 'Sea'. 'Pontus' was also an ancient kingdom on the Black 'Sea'.

'Ponto' is the Italian translation for 'Pontus' or 'Pontos'.

Pilsner is on the Levitate 2nd CD, no? And on the resoled bootleg Backdrop under the name "Plaster On The Hand", I think.

These are both live takes, although a studio version does appear at the end of the PBL re-issue, so I was partially wrong. :ohdear:

Ponto was recorded for Imperial Wax Solvent but dropped from the final tracklisting. I don't know why MES decided to ditch it.

Oooh ooh, I know - it's because it wasn't much cop.

Doesn't explain how all the other tracks made the album though :zip:

Hi Conway! :)

Well, well... Thanks for clearing that up Conway! Very interesting. Wonder when and how that recording will see the light.

Have you heard it (and if so, was the studio version any good) ?

royalty distribution?

Conway - November 27, 2009 03:17 AM (GMT)
If MES was that concerned about royalties, he would've dumped Strangetown so he didn't lose 1/12 of the album songwriting royalties.

Conway - November 27, 2009 03:19 AM (GMT)
Perhaps he wanted to have an unreleased track up his sleeve to make the 2012 reissue more desirable?!

junk-man - July 4, 2011 05:28 PM (GMT)
Were there any good audience recordings of this? Any on dime maybe? I heard that 30 second youtube clip of it, like to hear more!
