Description: battle of the titans!!!

I like butlers and sentimental nostalgia, but I also like flabby nudes that look like they're made out of plasticine. Tough choice...
flickeringlexicon - November 16, 2009 06:07 PM (GMT)
I voted 'Blank Wall Option.'
Fritter - November 16, 2009 06:12 PM (GMT)
I think the key thing to think about when choosing something to hang on your wall, and thus anticipate looking at it many many times over the years to come, is to ask yourself if it bears repeated viewings, whether it doesn't give itself away on first look. I would go for the Freud, as it looks 'different' every time, whereas the Vettriano makes only a fleeting impression.
But then, I don't have shares in Past Times.

They're both as bad as each other.
A Worried Man - November 16, 2009 06:23 PM (GMT)
This Vettriano person is quite racy, isn't he?

He likes the ladies you could say, all their various ways. Freud likes skin.

Of the two, I think Freud has the greater liking for painting -- how can I put this? -- lady-bits. :o

In the Vettriano, we see him subtly underlining the inherent dichotomies of class structure; the paradigm of the ruling classes innate belief that they can influence weather patterns merely by flexing their economic muscles, the frieze-like quality and rich political underpinnings only further demonstrate this painting's timeless gracious elegance.
Whereas the Freud painting is just some old git.
Thank you.

He didn't quite capture the essence of Kate Moss either.

Marshall is wrong. This Freud person is rubbish.
On the other hand, phwoar:

Where's the drama in Freud!?
Mr. Marshall - November 16, 2009 08:44 PM (GMT)

Freud's almost as bad a painter as Anselm Kiefer.
Neal Cassady - November 16, 2009 09:57 PM (GMT)
Out of the two, Vettriano.
But I'm hardly blown away by either artist.
If I wanted something fat and flabby I'd just hang a mirror on the wall

I once ran into Anselm Kiefer. Just before he fled to France to avoid palimonies.
Divvey - November 17, 2009 08:16 AM (GMT)
I heard that Lucian had sired about 60 kids.
is this true??
the_shrander - November 17, 2009 09:10 AM (GMT)
Vettriano is an illustrator, Freud is a painter. Vettriano is a hack, Freud is some kind of genius. There.
Next...

Sorry, but that extra pair of hands is fucking creepy. And why's she wearing a Sumo wrestlers belt?
A Worried Man - November 17, 2009 10:51 AM (GMT)
But you can see her bottom.
I think I read somewhere that Lucian Freud knew George Orwell, which seemed remarkable to me.
Fritter - November 17, 2009 11:06 AM (GMT)
I guess the World Of The Arts was much smaller in them days - if they both lived in London, chances are they would have knocked about in the same sort of non-conformist places. It's like the music scene of the late 60s-70s, the Bonzos hanging out with the Beatles etc.
