Title: Zoot Horn Polo's Photo Quiz
Description: It'll do in an emergency

Zoot Horn Polo - November 13, 2009 02:01 PM (GMT)
Neal Casady has sadly been unable to provide a Photo Quiz for us today, as he is suffering from technical difficulties (and so is his computer).

I am therefore stepping into the breach on a purely temporary basis.

Kindly tell me WHO the following bands/singers/people are. Points will be awarded in the usual willy-nilly, ruthlessly professional fashion.

1. La Dusseldorf/Fritter

Do I get a bonus point for pointing out that it says Shangri-Las at the bottom of the picture?
If not, can I also not be permanently banned for pointing out that it says Shangri-Las at the bottom of the picture?

GraemeLovesPinkLady - November 13, 2009 03:47 PM (GMT)
The katakana shown is ri-ra-su. That has to be worth a bonus point.

[Shangri Las would be シャングリ-ラス]

Neal Cassady - November 13, 2009 03:50 PM (GMT)

He also looks like one of the Melvins but the other two seem far too clean-cut.

I don't think anyone's going to get it. It seems to be an early line-up of a band that had very little publicity in any of their later incarnations.

Hee hee.

Good lord, the picture resolution was quite low so I went for the white-overalls option. That's cheered me up a bit after a progressively miserable day.

Just 3, 4 and 5 needed now please.

Fritter - November 13, 2009 05:57 PM (GMT)
I'll trade you 3 for 4 on the Album Covers Quiz II. The bloke on the left is driving me mad.

They once released a Christmas EP called Minge Pies and Mistletoe. And a few years later they had an EP called Filthy, Fat and Flatulent.

So I suppose, yes, it could be The Cure...

Points to Fritter if that's right.

I was young and impressionable: there was this bloke at university who was mad about them, being from Macclesfield it seemed like it was his duty to spread the word.

There was a faction at school who would stick them on the 6th form stereo. The music battles there were hilarious. It was either the Macc Lads, Public Enemy or the Smiths. I was rare in liking 2 of the 3.

It's too late to go back now, Fritter. The points are yours.

Could you, as a Macc Lads completist, tell me whether their 1993 album An Orifice and a Genital is worth getting?

Well, it's not as subtle as From Beer To Eternity but as collections of ML outtakes go, the sound quality beats The Red Vag Of Courage hands down.
