No Safi.

10.22
Still no Fall.
Ooh the tension.
It's just like being there isn't it.
The hamster has just woken up so it must be late.
10.30 and Chester Cheese (the hamster) is chewing on the bars of his cage.
More tension.
I never asked for a hampster.
10.35 Could be a late night. Make some Horlics
Cat is up now asking for GoCat treats. It's getting serious.
It'll be the goldfish next.
Kids conked out ages ago. And the wife.
She says I snore.
Hanley Played a Fender P - November 10, 2009 10:48 PM (GMT)
RIGHT!!
We're off with Wolf Kidult Man followed by My Door.
Band in 'stunning form'.
Must be the smell of that home turf.
Time for some cheese on toast I think.

Ditto
I think I much prefer the Fall live from the comfort on my own home.
Nice cup of cocoa
Pam jams
No need to miss Newsnight
and I don't have to sleep with inappropriately aged men.
Lovely :)
Hanley Played a Fender P - November 10, 2009 10:57 PM (GMT)
Either that was a very short set, or big Phil 'Encore' Pharmacist is enjoying him self too much?
Dereliction of duty?

Hanley Played a Fender P - November 10, 2009 11:04 PM (GMT)
I was just out to get 2 bottles of wine for a fiver, at the 'phones unlocked while u wait 24 hour supermarket' when this has just come through.......
Bury followed by Chino.
MES also appears to be in some sort of huff.
Hmm.

chrisgoodhead - November 10, 2009 11:10 PM (GMT)
How is the huff manifesting itself and where abouts is it being directed? It's a bit like cluedo. Professor greenway with the on/off switch in the amplifier?

I've got a hot water bottle but Chris keeps nicking it.
Surely "Bury" is the new "Reformation" which was the new "Blindness"?

You might have a point Phil.
Is 50 Year Old Man out of favour now I wonder?
Has Big Phil 'the encore' Pharmacist been abducted by aliens?
chrisgoodhead - November 10, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
Dissolution is the new reformation.
Shift over a bit.

I reckon 50 YOM is getting elbowed by Cowboy George, certainly seems to "fit" in the same place on the setlist.

I think the venues been empty for half an hour but he's waiting till they dismantle the drumkit just to make sure.

I'm really fucking knackered now.
Proper fans coming back from the gig may have to fill in the gaps.

I told Phil he must wait for the Salford Van Hire truck to drive away.
With MES in it.

we're all too nervous to ever know if its been good or not. why does everything need to be the best or the worst
Philh - November 11, 2009 01:41 AM (GMT)
It was wonderful, it was sensational. The best i've seen of this line-up. It was hot in there as well.
invisiblegirl - November 11, 2009 02:12 AM (GMT)
got a pass half an hour before the support band came on.. who were magnificent, frazer king that is (been following them a while, with Steve Shy being the tip off for these rather (Brect/Brel) beautiful artists..)
and so.. i stayed for the fall too, half hoping too see them too admittedly, i wasn't disappointed, the new material sounds more impressive than the last gig i saw. band two years in.. we know the story they're getting good now.. how long will it last

Hello regulars, here is a lurkers view so excuse me if I am not up on all the memes, current Forum thinking and in-jokes (judging by the earlier part of this thread).
Moho Live is a very odd place. Despite being a regular gig goer I've never been here before. I thought it was a newish venue but it felt more life being in Jillys/Rafters and had the vibe of a seedy old 70s Mock Tudor drinking den and smelled a bit sort of...leathery.
Venue was nowhere near sold out and there was one heck of a guest list when I checked in. There is an exclusive tour 7"/CD which you could order in advance but not actually buy, so not much pocket lining going on tonight.
Support band were the (rubbishly named) Frazer King. Odd bunch I think from Wythenshawe that did kind of ramshackle sea shanties or sort of Scally folk, think a young Johnny Cash fronting The Coral or a cross between Fairport and Northside. They look like James circa 1983. Tony Wilson would have loved them.
They weren't quite to my taste but they brought a coachload of mates with them and to be fair most of the gang stuck around for The Fall despite the interminable wait. They seemed to be having a great time and created a bit of a moshpit especially during White Lightning. Good to see the enlightened youth of Wythenshawe enjoying the group and it was quite clear they understood who MES was and he made an impression. I can't help thinking their enthusiasm coaxed a bit more out of the group than we'd have got otherwise from a roomful of Fall veterans.
Support band over by 9.30. No sign of the appalling Safi thank goodness. Pre-amble was two pretty impressive pre-recorded spoken word tracks and MES finally hit the stage by about 10.40 when most other Tuesday night gigs around town are drawing to a close...very annoying. I've come to expect this...but I don't like to be clock watching on a gig but for f**ks sake its a Tuesday night and my last affordable transport leaves in one hour..so I'm kind of hoping MES will strop off early...(which is wrong!)
Loved 'Hot Cake' in particular with its rolling drum thing and 'Bury..' was terrific. New album should be excellent.. Psykick Dancehall was great albeit with MES phoning in his vocals from backstage for most of it.
Group were pretty ferocious and pretended not to notice amp twiddling. The guitar was cut out far too often. A roadie got a shove when he tried to balance the Bass amp.
Near the end, the PA died during a track I'm not sure of the name of. They band carried on, but MES didn't think to turn the guitar amp up and of course the guitarist isn't allowed to do it himself so it was just bass and drums. The young kids in the moshpit loved all this nonsense , and MES handed them the Mic thinking perhaps it would make the PA work...it didn't...but it was quite fun to watch.
I left as Reformation fell apart as the PA packed up for the second time, in order to make the last tram home or risk a £30 taxi penalty. Even Blindness isn't worth £30 and I had the feeling I was quitting while ahead. Did I actually miss anything?
So...it was good, and it was better than Leeds which was in far too big a venue.
The Fall are never boring and never predictable. However I think that is my last Fall gig for a while. I'll be back someday but I think as good as this performance was, they really do take the piss out of their fans with the short sets and late starts and I would have been better off spending £17 taking a chance on 3 or 4 new smaller gigs with new bands for the same price as one chaotic, messy Fall gig. Indeed I will now go and do just that and will pass next time the Fall come around (unless they're doing Hex Enduction Hour)
Thankyou and goodnight.
JokerHystericalFace - November 11, 2009 07:15 AM (GMT)
Isn't this the point where someone mentions Coldplay?
New Profile Razor Unit - November 11, 2009 09:07 AM (GMT)
Hot sweaty, ceiling so low they couldn't hang the backdrop up properly. Pile of stuff I've never heard live that will be on the new album, band on form, MES smiling playing keyboards on the extended jamming when the PA failed.
Of course it was The Fall!!
R. Totale - November 11, 2009 09:11 AM (GMT)
Great Listening In review. Shame you had to ruin it with the Hex Enduction mention, LookBack Bore! :P
If the Fall ever do one of those "play Hex Enduction Hour" things, I'm not going. I'd rather hear Bury, or something I haven't heard before. Hearing songs I don't know is 90% of the reason for my going.

Only seen them four times, but as for albums/bootlegged gigs-
Indeed. The reason I'm still here. The equation/formula remains inscrutable. Sometimes disappointing but the incessant climb is the summit itself.
