Those are great, I haven't been to Cornwall for about 15 years, didn't know about all the megaliths and stuff there...

it's very phallic and sexual, isn't it?
I suddenly had a flashback to more 'flusher' times and thought, hmm could go to Cornwall soon and take pics, then remembered it costs money  :D
an incentive to work hard and prosper i guess... :devil2:

I saw something similar on the Antiques Road Show a few years ago. Give them a call Zoot – it could be worth something.

Did you know that the internet cafes charge £3.60 an hour down here. :(

I bought a medium size steak pastie yesterday at St Just. They are valued at £2.05 and are very delicious. :)

No problem.
It'll look particularly lovely in the sunshine, so perhaps tomorrow would be better than today.

Seriously tho, cave paintings, white men on hills, were sexual by nature, who's to say this monument isn't. It seemed so to me.

Aubrey The Cat - October 31, 2009 10:17 AM (GMT)
Somewhere I think off the road between St Ives and Zennor (it was over 20 years ago when I was there) there is a narrow track that goes past a small cottage where Barry Humphries once stayed (he had to be airlifted from somewhere near when he got injured by falling) and then goes into a small wood and kind of loses itself. Somewhere down there is a wooden sign reading "Wicca" and in the wood are the remains of several cottages - a small village. It could have been in an EF Benson or HP Lovecraft story. I found it strange and romantic more than creepy, though.
Good pics, by the way.

I call this one Quoit Before The Storm (gedditt?) ^_^

I was quite moved by this scruffy statue of the Virgin Mary in Sennen Church. It was recovered from a wall niche three hundred years ago. The guidebook says "It's just as well to blame the roundheads for the damage". It was given a new head and baby jesus (modelled from clay in recent years). My insensitive use of flash set on full blast adds to the strangeness of this tiny figure. :girl2:

Not sure why this is lying down. Photobucket is misbehaving today.
fixed it. B)

Thanks Aubrey. We might have a look at Wicca next time we're down that way. :)
(On edit next day) We have a brilliant book called Journey to the Stones which has lots of country walks to interesting stone circles etc in it. It shows a walk that goes through Wicca via about twenty old stiles. We'll definitely be going there on the next sunny day we get.

That's known as The Coffin Path. If you walk down there from Zennor, heading for St. Ives, you can turn left towards the sea (I think that's at Wicca) and then come back to Zennor along the cliffs. Bugger - if I hadn't split up with my missus we'd have been staying near there right now :( Go to The Gurnard's Head for lunch or dinner if you get the chance - it's ace.
Aubrey The Cat - November 3, 2009 09:03 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Davey and Shrander. I wasn't starting to think I'd imagined it, but I hadn't been able to find it on maps, and I'd never been back there either (probably never will, now). Anyway, it's nice to have it confirmed.
(We stayed in the cottage that B Humphries stayed in. It was owned by the family of the bloke with us, and his dad was a school friend of Humphries'. We played a lot of Cheat (three boys - me, my brother and the Australian bloke: and Vlad, my dog, who guarded the cottage from her flower bed bed on top of the wall), I read a fair bit of Georges Simenon, we had long walks along the cliffs (with seals following us in the water) and smoked a lot of fags. A good holiday.)

This is one of a pair of stones called The Pipers you can just see the other Piper in the next field. I think these are the tallest standing stones in Cornwall.
