In North America, willows aren't much good for making baskets, but the osier is ideal for that

* at one point Audrey Pepper got one point for saying "oh, you know, it's that funny fellow" and everyone laughed.

45 years ago when I was an active spelunker, we wore these devices called carbide lamps. We placed water in the top, and rock like pellets of calcium carbide in the bottom. The water, the flow of which could varied, fell onto the carbide, liberating a gas which came out through the reflector and was lit with a match. I though - wrongly - it was methane....anyway, it lasted a long time and was bright

1/2 a bonus point for a great story and 1/2 a point for referring to 'spelunking' twice.

That's it for Round One, well done everybody. We'll just wait for Margaret to bring out the biscuits and hopefully Walter will be back from the toilet in time for Round 2...

duckpin236 - October 27, 2009 07:14 PM (GMT)
