Title: Beatles quiz
Cappuccino and a slice of quiche - September 14, 2009 01:50 PM (GMT)
To commemorate the 5th anniversary of Chip Priest declaring that "The Beatles are a childrens band" (more recently remastered as "What worked for the Beatles was marketing towards children. I still think of them as a children's band"), here’s a Beatles quiz for all you poor brainwashed fools:
1. Which Beatles song's original working title was Bad Finger Boogie?
With A Little Help From My Friends (Zoot Horn Polo)
2. On which Beatles song does Brian Jones play alto sax?
You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) (Stephen)
3. Which other song did Paul McCartney write on the same day he wrote Let It Be?
The Long and Winding Road (SonOfAlways)
4. What did the song "Child of Nature", which John Lennon wrote circa The White Album, later turn into?
Jealous Guy (stefan)
5. Which Beatles song was recorded solely by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr?
Why Don't We Do It In The Road (GraemeLovesPinkLady)
6. Which Beatles song quotes from "Sorrow" by The Merseys?
It's All Too Much (Stephen)
7. Which 3 of the following are NOT on the Sgt Pepper sleeve?
Tyrone Power, Issy Bon, Oliver Hardy, Lana Turner, Huntz Hall, Simon Rodia, Tommy Handley, Will Hay, Marilyn Monroe, William S. Burroughs, Wilhelm Reich, Albert Stubbins, Larry Bell.
Will Hay and Lana Turner (Fritter) - one more still needed...
8. Which non-Beatle plays on Magical Mystery Tour, Within You Without You and Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!
Neil Aspinall (GraemeLovesPinkLady)
9. Apart from While My Guitar Gently Weeps, what other Beatles song does Eric Clapton appear on?
All You Need is Love (GraemeLovesPinkLady)
10. The final overdub session for which song represented the last time all four Beatles worked in the studio together?
I Want You (She's So Heavy) (SonOfAlways)

Being a brainwashed fool, I know pretty much all of these.
That being the case, I'm going to lay back and watch elvischomsky make a berk of himself.

Hmm, must admit question 9 is foxing me, though.
rainmaster - September 14, 2009 01:59 PM (GMT)
Just answer the damned things, Zoot, and let's be done with it.
Fucking Beatles...
Zoot Horn Polo - September 14, 2009 02:01 PM (GMT)

stefan - September 14, 2009 02:04 PM (GMT)
4 is Jealous Guy, I think

Are you thinking of Here Comes The Sun (written in Clapton's garden, but an Eric-free zone recording-wise).
Oh - Why Don't We Do It In The Road is one of the answers.
GraemeLovesPinkLady - September 14, 2009 02:47 PM (GMT)
#8 has to be one of Mal Evans or Neil Aspinall, so let's go for Mal.
Stephen - September 14, 2009 02:49 PM (GMT)
2: You Know My Name (Look Up The Number).
6: It's All Too Much.

I can confirm that I'm not thinking of Here Comes the Sun.
Re your 2nd answer - you'll need to tell me which question you're referring to before I award any points...

I always thought that was a Brian Jones Sax on 'Baby, You're A Rich Man,' too, but according to Lewisohn, the sax-like instrument you hear is actually Lennon playing an early electronic keyboard known as a 'Clavioline.' Where can I get a Clavioline, I'd like to know (and so would Stereolab.)? :D

Not according to Revolution in the Head - although Ian Macdonald does suggest that Mick Jagger *might* sing on it...

Just two left:
7. Which 3 of the following are NOT on the Sgt Pepper sleeve (I'll now award one point for each - only one guess at a time and once you get one wrong, you're disqualified from further guesses).
Tyrone Power, Issy Bon, Oliver Hardy, Lana Turner, Huntz Hall, Simon Rodia, Tommy Handley, Will Hay, Marilyn Monroe, William S. Burroughs, Wilhelm Reich, Albert Stubbins, Larry Bell.
8. Which non-Beatle plays on Magical Mystery Tour, Within You Without You and Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!
GraemeLovesPinkLady - September 14, 2009 05:02 PM (GMT)
Oh, so it wasn't Nocchi from Perfume then for #8. Guess it must be Neil Aspinall then.

I doubt the other one is very recognisable either way...

The other ringer for #7 was Wilhelm Reich. Freud and Jung were included though.
Final scores:
GraemeLovesPinkLady - 3

Stephen - 2
SonOfAlways- 2
stefan - 1
Zoot Horn Polo - 1
Congratulations to GraemeLovesPinkLady who wins an old brown shoe for his troubles.
