Title: Mr. Kyps, Poole, 19th November 2009
Description: Pre-gig arrangements
MCR - September 8, 2009 08:12 AM (GMT)
According to their website this morning....
The Fall play tribute band venueThe place only has a 250 capcity so it should be amazing, and I can walk there.....
chris.southon - September 8, 2009 08:37 AM (GMT)
It is a great venue unfortunately usually taken up with a dreary, endless parade of tribute and covers bands. As MCR says, its only small capacity (though I thought 400???) so its one to book early as it could/should sell out before the night....
Walking distance for me too, which is a bonus. If anyone wants any advice about local hotels etc let me know
Starsky-Tandoori - September 8, 2009 09:11 AM (GMT)
I am desperate to go to this, but it will be a tall order, but, could you let me know some places to stay...just in case I manage to move a mountain, ta.

High Tension Line - September 8, 2009 05:06 PM (GMT)
There are some lets say, interesting discussions on the Message Board regarding Late Start, Short gigs and Boosting gig attendences. It does appears to be a decent small venue which is responsive to the public.

The last time I actually stayed in Poole was at Rockley Sands caravan park in 1985. I was with my first wife at the time on a luxury romantic holiday. I wonder where it all went wrong? I went to the chippy and got roughed up by skinheads. I was wearing a Fall t shirt, and it was the night of the Heysel disaster.
Salad days indeed.
Can you get me a ticked Chris?

I spent many happy childhood holidays at Rockley Sands, at about this time.
I'm almost tempted by this. Poole isn't that far away for me, and must have shit loads of accomodation that is relatively cheap out of season?
Starsky-Tandoori - September 8, 2009 07:13 PM (GMT)
I'm that devious I'm thinking of getting a couple of tickets anyway..and then working 'my magic'. ;)
A Worried Man - September 8, 2009 07:15 PM (GMT)
Should the men of Poole start running to the hills?
Starsky-Tandoori - September 8, 2009 07:45 PM (GMT)
I meant working my magic here, to get permission to go, but now you mention it...

can I get you a tickel? The local females can be very obliging...I'll see what I can do
chris.southon - September 9, 2009 08:03 AM (GMT)
there are B and B's around the venue, within walking distance. Anyone who is happy with a cheap Travelodge the Bournemouth ones are currently £32 and £35 at the mo, and you could double up. The Seafront is the better one, as its closer to Poole (shorter bus or cab ride), its brand new (opening 5 November), and its currently the cheaper one at £32. There is what's said to be a very nice place for breakfast (as featured on the Hotel Inspector) very close to it also, and you can park all day for free within spitting distance, which is a novelty in Bournemouth.
A Worried Man - September 9, 2009 10:15 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the information. I'll get drunk in front of the computer and see how brave I'm feeling.

The Fall are playing Mr Kyps at Ashley Cross in lower Parkstone, Poole, near Bournemouth on 19 November. A cracking venue, where I played live once! Two excellent pubs just outside the venue too. It's only a small place, so best to book!

Parkstone rail station is a five minute walk away, served by Bournemouth.
DoubleWeasel - September 9, 2009 12:46 PM (GMT)
Memories came flooding back then, I went to Rockley Sands Caravan Park as a kid - remember there was a little arcade games room, Relax was out by Frankie/Hollywood, I'd of been about 10, and had a fight with an older kid by some old wooden cable drums - I came off a bit worse... Anyway, it would be great to go back and perhaps pick up my teeth, and then see the Fall.
Might be able to swing it as the 19 is my birthday.

I picked up some tickets this evening. Apparently "legal" capacity is 350, and about 100 tickets went online just today, so I can only reiterate you need to get in now or risk missing out

I have, 6 for me and various friends.

I'm 90% sure I won't be able to go,but I've such an itch, I might order a couple anyway. If it doesn't pan out I'm sure I can pass them on. I'm getting stomach ache thinking about it!
On edit: Just checked the train fare, £70 odd return! I think that'll probably put the kybosh on it,I'll get a scratchcard tonight.

Its only £25 return from London at the mo, or £16 on the National...? Where are you coming from?

Would be more than happy to oblige...
Emailed the wife about it, no reply, then no mention all night so I brought it up and the response I got was "you love the Fall more than me,.... me/you/birthday etc."
Pointed out I only go out these days to see the fall, we've got a 7 month old so I need to do the right thing, really. Mate at work said he'd be up for Koko on the 17 Nov though, and two gigs in a week and I'd be shot under the current regime...
Might reconsider a bit nearer the time - best I could find a return rail ticket from London was £47.50, so interesting to see there are cheaper options, thanks

I'm on a branch line, my nearest 'big' station is Ashford, Kent. I checked using the National Rail website. I would have to come into Lodon first, then out. I had been up all night when I checked, I'll look again, maybe there's a cheaper route.
Like DW, I e-mailed my other half two days ago about it, he checks his post all the time. Not a peep so far, not even "You're/We're not going!" :(

here as separate journeys
