Someone gave Smith a sausage bassoon for his birthday in March, he now wonders why he ever bothered before with the kazoo. It features throughout the album, filling the spaces like Dylan's harmonica.

Drjohnrock - May 27, 2009 02:03 AM (GMT)
Mandolin, ukelin, or both.

Exopsychicton - May 28, 2009 03:52 AM (GMT)
An electric monstrosity created by a drunk Blaney that Smith misplays by kicking.

avsp - May 28, 2009 01:39 PM (GMT)
some kind of modern stylophone, ..., hand-held jap gizmo fingy

Mandolin, ukelin, or both.

Or perhaps something like the harmonica on Couldn't Get Ahead, one of the many high points of the '83-'85 Brix era.

Neal Cassady - June 1, 2009 01:56 PM (GMT)
I think we will get a pretty standard drum / guitar / drum / keyboard sound. I'd love to hear some woodwind on it though.

roofer's nail gun

Conway - June 2, 2009 11:21 AM (GMT)
Time for some woodwind.

huh - June 2, 2009 11:23 AM (GMT)
Indeed. Nail gun's are woodwind i think, but i'm still hanging out for a Rackett.

I far prefer Drjohnrock's posts from the halcyon threads of 1 - 27, all of which centred on the unsurpassable Brix years in the '80's.

Didgeridoo (hasn't been used yet, has it?) featured on track "No I did not read 'oo'".

artistic_vices - July 6, 2009 01:12 PM (GMT)
I'd love to hear a harp on a Fall record. Having a hell of a time imagining it though.

RepoMan - July 8, 2009 07:00 PM (GMT)
would love to hear a Cornet on a Fall tune.

Very Phoenix Nights, though.

RepoMan - July 8, 2009 07:08 PM (GMT)
Actually, forget the cornet, would love a Joe Meek style special effect, like a hammer smashing a bath.

Uh, not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, REX, but the word I used was "ukelin". It's an entirely different instrument than the ukelele. Look it up on wikipedia.

REX - July 13, 2009 04:54 AM (GMT)
I'm not questioning your authority, sir... But regardless you made me think of a ukelele and I ran with the idea. -_-

Völlïg Tötäll - July 13, 2009 02:51 PM (GMT)
That grand piano has never embellished English Scheme, right? Why not a new song?

As they say across the pond, REX, steady on. I didn't think you were questioning my authority--just thought you might have given my post a very quick perusal and misunderstood what I wrote.

That said, I'm certainly not opposed to ukeleles or a Tiny Tim cover. But why stop with just a cover? Though the marvels of modern recording technology, let's have a MES/Tiny Tim duet! Can't you hear it now? "Tiptoe through the tulips with me-uh." It's bound to be better than the bizarre video of Hank Williams and Hank "The Best Part Of Me Ran Down My Old Man's Leg" Williams Jr.

Dedicated (casio-type) keyboard for MES.

(Not an unusual instrument, I know, but I love his keyboard-playing.)

( + a cymbal on a stand again.)

P.S. Maybe he'll have to strap it on again soon. I heard, a couple of days ago, that he'd sacked

Ronnie Wood. Is that true?

I thought 'Madonna with Guitar' might also have turned up some sort of Rennaisance /Cubist hybrid, a collaboration between Michaelangelo and Braque, but it didn't...

Still laughing as I type...... :applaud: I remember a guy I met saying that he'd taught her

guitar a few years ago (London). Forgot 'til just now. I imagined it to be an acoustic, though.

(....although he was a 'shredder' ).

Wow, thanks again....sooooo wrong!!!!

Mick hasn't played a guitar live on the last few tours, maybe he will have to strap one on again. Astute 'gear-heads' will notice that Jagger's Jaguar guitar is the same model as Pete Greenway's, only a different color... B)

I think his only chance is with the Rickenbacker 'Fryingpan'.

This is not just a cheap jibe about age etc., I think it's worth a try.

Even then, it might not work....
