I am a good friend of Lloyd Swanton the bassist and also a huge fan of the Necks and agree that whilst some of the recordings are great, Live they are one of the most thrilling and enthralling things around.

Not sure about this as they often release recordings of their better concerts in order to try and scrape a living.

Hope Im not being naive here- as I haven't fully investigated the way dime is set up but im pretty sure The Necks or The Fall can object to having their material shared and opt out. On the other hand this is a way of circulating much more stuff that they could release officially and generate interest. Some of the sets on the list are good quality radio broadcasts.

I have a ticket for the Union chapel (London) and am slowly getting around to buying the released stuff as well.

If you see Lloyd tell him I am a real fan of his bass playing. The moments when the piano dies down and you get to realise what the bass and drums are doing are always fantastic.

Have found a number of recordings on the inter~web (other than those on DAD), finally. Was much too fucking late for Necks sound on DAD (one seeder  might be enough, it usually isn't). I must say that, although their official output is fantastic, their live shows sometimes don't amount to much (sub-Keith Jarrett tosh /w drums). Hollerbusch, wash your mouth...and no comp for a month!

Great OZ blog here (search results for necks done)

Thanks for the link Unseen. Looks like a couple more here if I could only download them. Those megaupload type sites are pretty unforgiving for a broadband connection that glitches every 5 mins. Ill keep trying.

Id have to admit that not every minute of every show I have listened to is brilliant but they allways manage to pull something excellent together after a while. Sometimes they are a bit too smothered in over lyrical piano loops - usually at the beginning of their pieces but the fact that they are live played loops does make it interesting in itself. Dont know about

but I'd say the w/drums were brilliant enough to justify it.

Yeah, no worries, they can stop it if they want (the 'banned' list on Dime makes for interesting reading). I just get the odd prick from my conscience every now and again and to be fair, most of what is on Dime is live recordings by fans anyway, as opposed to some of the public sites which list whole catalogues of albums by groups.

I'm gutted not to be able to see them at the Union Chapel, that is the perfect venue for them - it should be amazing.
