Title: What percentage of Fall songs do you like?

Howard - February 25, 2009 08:52 PM (GMT)
Looking through the various polls and leagues and cups here, there's obviously a lot of love for a lot of The Fall's songs. But, there's also some hate out there (and often for songs that are the generally-accepted 'classics'). I was wondering what the general consensus was on how much you like, and how much you don't.

For the record, I should think that I like a good 75% of The Fall's songs; given the size of the catalogue, that's a whole lot of goodness.

You also can't take some things that are posted on here seriously. There's a lot of piss-taking going on. Someone recently said they thought Tommy Shooter was a better track than Blindness. Surely that was some kind of a joke.

95 percent or above for me. :P

The remaining 5% being IWS?

Ha, I was the joker that said that about Tommy Shooter... In retrospect I may well have been wrong.

theres really not more than a handful of songs i have to turn off, and maybe two handfuls id prefer to skip.
fifteen into four hundred plus, works out to about one in thirty.
less than three percent.

Aubrey The Cat - February 25, 2009 10:00 PM (GMT)
There's hardly any that I wouldn't hear most times, though some I'm not in the mood for sometimes (which has included Garden in the past, so it doesn't mean that I don't like them). I can't think of anything that I'd always skip. (I haven't heard where's the taxi).

Kapitän - February 25, 2009 10:20 PM (GMT)
I might go out strong against certain songs on here once in a while, but still 'like' many of them in a broader sense (compared to other bands etc.)

I guess on average there are 1 or 2 songs on most albums I usually skip or have to force myself to sit through. So I probably like 80-90%

biggestlibraryyet - February 25, 2009 10:36 PM (GMT)
Can the mods please reveal who voted 0-10% so we can have a proper discussion/lynching?

Faust Banana - February 25, 2009 10:37 PM (GMT)
I ignore 'songs' like Ibis Afro Man and Bonkers In Phoenix because I can't take the pain. Some people do enjoy the more experimental tracks but for the most part I can't stand them.

Overall I went for 70-80%.

It's far more tuneful and lyrically challenging than Papal Visit. -_-

Sven Hassel Schmuck - February 25, 2009 11:26 PM (GMT)
I voted 90 to 100%. There are honestly no more than a couple of handfuls of Fall songs I don't like.

IanMcC - February 25, 2009 11:54 PM (GMT)
50-60% for me. Remove the 1990's and it would be 80-90% easily.

I'll go with this.
I never listen to Victoria though , rubbish.

I enjoy that one. I sing along with it.

Theres very few I would actually turn off - but that said I listen to Terry Wogan in the mornings... which is utter drivel... but never turn it off.
My point, erm, I love about 70%, but am thankfull for 100%.

the very famous sports reporter - February 26, 2009 03:44 PM (GMT)
I also fall into the 70-80% bracket. There are a two or three albums I don't much care for and quite a few of the cover versions I could happily live without.

Mere Pseud. - February 26, 2009 09:55 PM (GMT)
90% - 100% for sure. Would even have been 95% - 100% if available.

Out of the several hundred Fall songs there is only a tiny fraction I seriously dislike. Wouldn't claim I'm overwhelmed by almost everything, but juat about any song has at least something going for it.

Listening to a considerable amount of live recordings made me aware that many songs from the 90s have far more potential than the sometimes slack album production suggests.

killerpup - February 26, 2009 10:16 PM (GMT)
Near %100 for me. Still don't like Rose and there's some song called Birthday or something and I really don't like Rude All The Time because it sounds like bad indy rock, but that's about it. There's an addictive quality to the Fall that I would take so so Fall over a classic album by another band. It's an itch nothing else can scratch.

Surplus Johnny - February 27, 2009 04:23 AM (GMT)
Last option Johnny for me.

Only ever been a handful of tracks i don't care for. A small handful.

Listed them before.

Yeah. It was all downhill after 'Shiftwork. B)

100 per cent

cant find the sign.......

Hotel Amnesia - March 2, 2009 04:59 AM (GMT)
There's only a handful I truly dislike and a majority of those are on Reformation and AYAMW.

gappy tooth - March 3, 2009 10:48 AM (GMT)
I think about 75% of The Fall's songwriting is worthy of excitement; I think 95% of their recorded performances are wonderful, however.

Buy Kurious! - March 4, 2009 01:29 AM (GMT)
The last option.
You can count on one hand the Fall songs I don't like.
