From the (undeniably) worst Fall album of the third millennium, choose your favourite rip-off: Captain Beefheart oder Faust?

They're both aimless, overlong and derivative - if I was forced (at gunpoint) to choose between them I'd pick Das Boat. At least it's horrible-"funky"-bass free.

By the way this is not just the worst Fall album of the third millennium. It's probably the worst Fall album we're ever gonna get. :sick:

Das Boat is a bit pointless, its not very interesting at all. Shame, it was kinda a good idea.
I think Insult Song does exactly what it says on the tin - and is pretty funny.
One of the better albums of this decade overall... :)

Insult Song for me too. It might have been very clearly inspired by the Captain, but then again very few fans complain about Elves (quite rightly).

They are both better than anything on IWS, which is un-fu**ing-listenable.

I regrettably disagree - Insult Song is to me an insult to Fall fans, and always gets skipped these days. :huh:

Don't get me wrong - I like some of the album a lot, but tend to view it as an EP.
I usually play Over Over, Reformation, Fall Sound, then skip to My door, Coach And Horses (too short), Wright Stuff, Das Boat/Bad Stuff as above, closing with Systematic.

I don't care that much for this album and the track I least care for on it is Das Boat.

Maybe I'm daft but how is Insult Song a rip-off of the Captain? I don't hear much of the MBs inspired tomfoolery in it - sounds more like a Primus outtake to me :sick:

THose seem to be written-in-the-studio filler songs for an album that featured BRILLIANT live songs, that, um, got muffled a bit in the studio. I can see why an hour long album might still be considered an EP in this case. Still MES' best effort for years, but a Fall album? I don't think so!

I LOVE the live gigs (some DVDs!) from the period though, circa Sept 2007, I really do. That bearded bloke on second bass (eat your hearts out, Girls Vs Boys!) was fricken awesome.

Das Boat is the biggest stinker in the canon. Sheer waste of studio time.

Das Boat is lovely. Insult Song is appropriately titled.

It sounds like it was primarily recorded in Mark & Eleni's kitchen, so probably not much studio time spent.

It's also the best thing on the LP, of course :P (altho live versions of some of the songs were very good).

Doesn't sound particularly like Faust to me, but does sound like some great music.

You jest! The only is is there is no is. That said, Heads Roll squirms in your accused bag. Insult song by an cunt hair, because it's funny at times. I like both tracks very much.

Id only recently heard The Swell Maps 'Midget Submarine' before I heard Das Poop, (as the sorely missed OdLawyer, use to call it) so I had too high expectations, I think.
Quite like the lyrics in insult song.

Considering both songs as a whole, I went with Insult Song. Das Boat is great until the vocalizing starts. Had it been all instrumental, or if the vocals had been better, I would have gone with Das Boat.
