Title: are you even into the fall
Description: what with this being a fall forum
lavendercat06 - January 19, 2009 11:23 PM (GMT)
im not really into the fall anymore. some of the tracks are ok. i am more into pop and r and b now.
Völlig Totall - January 19, 2009 11:30 PM (GMT)
I used to listen more to the Fall before i joined this forum, honestly.
The general chat section should be closed, as it tends to encourage people not to think about Gruppe all the time. :P
But yes, i'm still into them, only slightly less than i used to before.
lavendercat06 - January 19, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
maybe ill get into them again sometime.
DJAsh - January 19, 2009 11:40 PM (GMT)
Missed out on a lot of live action recently for various reasons, hope to rectify that soon.
Not been too keen on recent recorded output ( since TRNFLP ). Hopeful for the next one..time for another classic I hope.
Looking forward to the Beggars reissues.

I'm sure you will.
Life just bounces, once in never out, et cetera.... :)

Didn't like the last 3 albums much (though I LOVED Von Südenfed) but my love for the group hasn't really diminished. With The Fall, you can always count on a comeback.

More into my Floyd bootlegs at the min but I still listen to a lot of Fall stuff.
The new album is getting constant air time (between plays of aforementioned bootlegs, obviously) so, yep, I'm still very much into the Mighty Fall.
I'm gonna have to get that Von thingy album, me thinks.
Fritter - January 20, 2009 02:29 PM (GMT)
I may not listen to them every single day, but I probably do think about them, hum a tune or two in my head, and think about what they stand for every day.
Grog - January 20, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
They are still the most important group in the world.
They remain the best live act ever.
They should not be judges by the standards of other groups.

My life is made more enjoyable by many things - one of which is The Fall. :applaud:

slade, soryy slightly aurally drunk, slayed by 'who makes the nazis' today.
Literally struck down while walking by how good it is.
High Tension Line - January 20, 2009 04:46 PM (GMT)
Yes. I don't go and see them as much as others on here - sorta content with once a year to be honest.
The last album was great, didn't like the VS thing much, and I thought Reformation was quite good myself. I gave FHR an airing the other day and I really enjoyed it.

It's just noise, isn't it?
Daggerfall96 - January 20, 2009 06:01 PM (GMT)
I'm more a fan of Fall obsessives (I just use that word so as to avoid witheringly putting the word "fans" twice into the same sentence........D'OH!!) these days than the actual group.
MES told Paula Yates in 85 that Fall fans are "not the sort of people that attack people in supermarkets...they are the salt of the earth".
He got THAT right.
PS If that seemed a bit crawly arselick, then I didn't mean ALL Fall fans haha ;)
PPS I voted Yes though! Fall sound? GOOD! MES Lyrics? GOOD!! Fall forum discussion after new album? GGGOODDDDD!!!!!!

Yes. I'm perpetually into The Fall. Not exclusively, and not every day, but sometimes only Tempo House will hit the spot. Nothing else comes close.

The Iceland 83 live versh of that (I think thats right) is so immersive it should be illegal. And for a sweet period of time prior to its release just under a decade ago, it was. The gig is........(vocab ends).
Sven Hassel Schmuck - January 20, 2009 07:46 PM (GMT)
I first became a Fall fan just after the release of Bend Sinister. It happened very quickly. From my first 7" (It's the new thing) which I bought on a whim for the (magnificent) sleeve to owning the entirity of the back cataloguen took a matter of months. For about 4 years I was obsessed but after Extracate my interest wained and throughout the 90's I didn't really follow their work that closely although i still played the old stuff regularly. I didn't see the band at all between 1993 and 2003 (I think) when i saw a video of Sparta FC on some MTV thing or other, decided to get the album and loved it.
Then a really funny thing happened. the Fallmaniac thing happened all over again, but, if anything I became even more obsessive. My wife, who had experienced the tail end of my first obsession really worried about my sanity for a while.
Now I'm at the point where I just know I'm a fan for life. I don't want to end up like one of those Dylan/Grateful Dead fans wittering on and on endlessly about some live gig from 20 years ago, although I probably have already reached this point to some extent but I just KNOW there's nothing better out there. God knows I've looked.
Still keep up to date with new music. Santogold, Crystal Castles, Unicorn Kid, late of the Pier, Annie, Hot Chip and many more, all enthuse me but The Fall are just so much better than everyone else.

Spot on for me as well.
There are plenty of other bands that I love , but nothing touches this lot.

I'd be genuinely interested to know who the other 4 "Not Really"s are - I wonder what drew them here in the first place, unless it's just passing browsers?
autotech - January 21, 2009 12:40 PM (GMT)
30 years on the go and the snippets of new material you hear on the live recordings people share still make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

They have never been more needed.

we must hunt them down and convert them.

I voted "Not Really".
For the last month I have been listening to Uehara Hiromi compulsively. Before that it was Perfume. Before that it was Hey Girl. Before that it was Tsuchiya Anna. Before that...well, you get the picture.
The last time I listened to The Fall, it was Dragnet, and I lasted 10 minutes before I gave up on it.
Feel free to hunt me down and kill me - I'll almost certainly be at the Smith & Blaney gig in Salford :)

by 'being into the fall' does it mean that i have to regularly go see them live and buy all the latest albums? or can i just listen to them occasionally, and go to gigs once in a while?

Yes, it's fine to dabble occasionally, so long as you still get something out of it. GLPL above, however is a worry, failing to last more than 10 minutes into Dragnet does not a Fall Fan make. :o
Mark E Smith Made Me Cry - January 22, 2009 02:21 PM (GMT)
I'm a much bigger Fall fan now than in the mid 80s when I discovered them and was able to go to far more gigs than these days.
Caught in a trap, no turning back etc.
