Title: Favourite Fall Era By Record Label

elvischomsky - January 8, 2009 07:23 PM (GMT)
All timings are approximate and only cover singles and studio albums.

Neal Cassady - January 8, 2009 07:33 PM (GMT)
Rough Trade 80-1 & 83 because I'm a look back bore.
Sanctuary 05-Present becuse I'm a look forward hero.

Mere Pseud. - January 8, 2009 10:01 PM (GMT)
Rough Trade for Groteque, Slates, PBL, Elastic Man and Wings to name just a few.

Beggars Banquet for quantity (longest label stay ever) and quality. Just think of these many fantastic b-sides.

Two more Sanctuary albums like the previous and it could become a serious contender.

Ditto. I am no hero though, i only try to act like a man.

It was between Begger and Rough Trade (As I see it was for many as they are the two most popular votes).

Gone for Rough Trade, one of the reasons being that it was the Rough Trade Anthology that really made me love the band.

Also depending on which day you ask me I will choose either PBL or Grotesque as my fave Fall album.
The fact both appear on Rough Trade was also a huge factor in my voting for the lable.

rainmaster - January 9, 2009 09:55 AM (GMT)
Gone with Rough Trade as first choice - the Golden Era, then Sanctuary as my second, presuming they stick around for another album or two, but so far so good.

All eras have their highs and lows, so it's hard to pick a favourite, but Artful and Eagle should perhaps be singled out for praise, rightly or wrongly bailing out with no duff releases. And Jet I suppose...

Oh, this is confusing!

:applaud:

Gone with the majority here. But, BUT bear in mind Sanctuary also gave us the Peel Box. So if I had a third option...

aerskine - January 9, 2009 10:47 AM (GMT)
Kamera - for Room to Live and Lie Dream (Hex wasn't too bad either).

Gaz - January 9, 2009 10:54 AM (GMT)
All that in my last post about having to pick between Beggers and Rough Trade..
Did not know I could vote for two!

PS -- Rough Trade and Beggars.

I like to stand apart from the crowd. -_-

elvischomsky - January 9, 2009 04:06 PM (GMT)
I also like rough trade and buggers.
Also have a soft spot for the Fontana years.

rainmaster - January 9, 2009 05:03 PM (GMT)
Wish I'd chosen Beggars now instead of Sanctuary...

Lots of fond memories during this time.

duckpin236 - January 9, 2009 07:57 PM (GMT)
I vote for the one with all the 12" vinyl EPs

Begger's Banguet

Bulgar's Baguette.
I believe they now serve this on Eurostar - Three Euros, ie 0.0001 Pounds at the going rate.

rainmaster - January 9, 2009 09:01 PM (GMT)

friendly_visitor - January 10, 2009 12:23 AM (GMT)
Voted for Rough Trade and Kamera. Yeah, I know, I'm a look back bore, but The Fall 80-83 has never been/will never be surpassed. By anyone.

Step Forward and Beggars for quantity and impact.

God, I sound like an A&R man.

Rough Trade
Kamera

Essential.

Anyone wishing to convert a non believer to the Fall go do a lot worse then playing them "It's The New Thing - The Step Forward Years" and "Totally Wired - Rough Trade Anthology". Certainly did wonders for me. Helped me go from thinking the Fall are great to thinking The Fall are the single greatest band to ever walk the face of God's green earth. I still play the latter far more then I play a lot of their post Frenz studio albums.

Daggerfall96 - January 21, 2009 05:10 AM (GMT)
Buggers Bouquet (er....) late 80s for me. OMG, my formative years' vinyl label was named after a Stones record.
Hope it was a good one then.

Perhaps the best album they ever recorded. Only Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed come remotely close.
Opens with one their best songs, too (Sympathy For The Devil).

Oh yeah, that Christian song that those boring old hippies ripped off Primal Scream and Black Grape. And then they have the audacity to name their LP after the Fall's record label. Rolling Splitters more like  They'll be ripping off the Verve's orchestral live albums next.
Mick Jagger and his time machine was never gonna mean owt but trouble.
I blame the parents. Well, MY parents specifically. Don't you?

Gaz - January 21, 2009 07:34 AM (GMT)
Yes, I also blame your parents :D

Daggerfall96 - February 3, 2009 06:07 AM (GMT)
Permanent were a good label too. GREAT records!!

Must be weird being Mark. So close to the Hub of the false-consciousness that is The Fall that he seems almost stationery himself, so changes the stuff at the end of the spokes like band members and record labels in a difficult effort to keep it all spinning. Then when it does spin, he needs to slow it down again.

Kudos to him, for that.
