Title: Julia & her Invisiblegirl label

Conway - December 23, 2008 09:17 AM (GMT)
Julia has been very busy with her record label and she has very kindly sent me an advance copy of a compilation album she has coming out, entitled A Place In Space. It was due for release on iTunes on 21 December, but they are a bit backlogged, so it hasn't appeared yet. But it should be available for download very soon.

The album is 14 tracks of artists from myspace from all around the world - Australia, Japan, Italy, France, Portugal, Uruguay, India - including 3 fallnet/forum connections: Sasha Margolis, Stuart Estell & Danny Short.

I've been listening to it for the past few days and it's a very nice collection of material that is quite diverse although probably more focused on the electronic end of the spectrum. Except for the 3 fallnet/forum people, whose tracks are guitar-oriented.

There's more info on Julia's website - here - and a myspace page with samples - here.

Conway - December 23, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
It's got a banging techno track on it and one made with kids electronic game units that's very nice indeed!

Julia also has some more releases coming early next year - another EP of What? Noise unreleased songs (yipee!) and herself under the Invisiblegirl name.

invisiblegirl - December 23, 2008 12:58 PM (GMT)
Cheers Conway,

These says they're going to feature the new compilation album soon, a radio station inspired by John Peel, (they have a festive 50 etc) it's worth bookmarking

Definitely getting this. The bits I've heard have been really good. The What? noise stuff is always more than worth a listen. Great original stuff.

And the previous have been bookmarked. Worthy of purchase. Question- whose idea was it for the chirping birds on Katerer? I fucking love that song, and that bit, and that whole record. No answer expected.

Why did I think the title of this thread was Julia and her invisable hair?

Surplus Johnny - January 7, 2009 01:52 AM (GMT)
Has anyone checked out the two clips on Julia's site yet?

Conway has linked them to the news page, scoll down a bit.

Run through for Birthday, this must be part of the footage Middles mentioned a couple of years ago.

MES in fine musical director form, Scanlon like the spectre at the feast :(

Burns in the shadows, blink, miss him.

Note to Simpo - Lucy should be in the revised Fallen.

A few echo that. :)

Grimo - January 7, 2009 06:42 AM (GMT)
It was great to see, indeed. Thanks! So much going on!

I'm sure others will echo the call for 'more footage'!

Lucy couldn't wait to get out, eh! Mark was as great as you would expect.

invisiblegirl - January 7, 2009 02:18 PM (GMT)
We have a couple more releases in January to mention..

An album by City Of Glass from Hull, it's their first album and some of the songs are on their myspace page here

They remind me a little of Clinic, or a modern take on eighties electronica, well worth a listen

Their album 'Tales From The City' will be on iTunes soon

Also Ruchira Kale our Indian classical artist is releasing a full version of her contribution to 'A Place In Space Compilation' track 11, 'Maan Na Kariye' which is 19 minutes long! The edited version on A Place In Space was shortened to 4 minutes. It will appear as Ruchira EP on iTunes soon and will include another track 'Mora Saiylan Bulave' This is planned as part of our female artist releases, which there will be more info on soon

Ruchira has just been in touch saying that 'A Place In Space' is due to be featured in major Indian English Daily "The Times of India" this Sunday. An interview is being organised for this week

Loads more planned.. will update soon :)

I'd love to see more... much more. Fascinating stuff. Just how I imagined it might be every time I ask myself, "but how does he/they actually go about....etc etc" More... more... more! (Please Julia!) :applaud:

A Place In Space Compilation reactions from the media so far..

Radio stations playing the album at the moment include the wonderful Rachael Neiman from Dandylion Radio. Rachael also runs Cherryade Records which happens to be my favourite label in Manchester at the moment..

Also a Mancunian who now resides in Belgium, Justin Toland is currently playing the album on his show Music, Muzeik, Musique on Radio Brussels FM, it is more of a dance music show, so I imagine Ramide and Slate Machine will be getting featured on this one..

The compilation album also managed to get a cover story in a Sunday edition of Pune Mirror of India...
Also fallnetter Eliot Van Buskirk has 'been inspired to jump on the bandwagon' with his blog here

Finally on the Invisiblegirls Records youtube channel, we have found live footage of some of our artists who haven't a video as yet. The live footage is always fabulous and can be seen in the recent activity box

Other news.. We're putting finishing touches to artwork and are busy writing biogs for City Of Glass's album which is out next on Invisiblegirl Records.
And we have a new signing from one of the artists on A Place In Space.. Danny Short has agreed to release his first album with us in the near future!

more updates soon :) Julia

Reformed Marmot - January 14, 2009 09:50 PM (GMT)
All the very best Julia

fallchase - January 15, 2009 06:22 PM (GMT)
julia always comes out with fantastic things.

invisiblegirl - January 24, 2009 04:34 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments

A couple more updates..

The compilation A Place In Space is now available on CD from the award winning independent record store Piccadilly Records in Manchester, always worth a visit

We're cutting Danny Shorts first album at the moment and it now has a title, 'Collected Times'. it will contain 11 tracks.. and is very listenable to these ears

The City Of Glass album is the next release, due out any day now, the band have a write up here

I still haven't seen them live yet, but hope to catch them in the next few months, they are great live by all accounts

Here's a pic of the sleeve :)

It is on iTunes for preview, with the official release date being the 28th Feb

Thought you's might like an update as I've just uploaded a new video for our latest release...
It's a particularly fab tune called The Glitch, by Borland featuring Kin on vocals..

the vid and other news is here on our news page

(it's actually a bit of a requiem for me, the images are taken from pics of my sister who passed on in July) ... lovely tune

Julia

That's a great song and a beautiful video, Julia. I'll have to head over to the invisibleshop v soon

I don't know you or anything but I'm sorry for your loss.

Good luck with the label x

rainmaster - October 10, 2009 08:33 AM (GMT)
Great song, Julia, and all the more moving given the video.

Sorry to hear of your sad news. :(

Vvillager - October 12, 2009 07:44 PM (GMT)
Lovely music, Julia. Very poignant given the circumstances.

All the best.
Vv.

invisiblegirl - October 18, 2009 03:07 PM (GMT)
Cheers all.. It is a good tune (prob one of my favourite releases so far)

KIN and her Dot Dot Dot EP (5 tracks) is now available as a pre-release. We're booking acoustic radio sessions to co-incide with the official release in late November. Ding plays bass in her band. They're riviting live, a must.

There's a bit on the bottom of our news page about it too

Julia

Bumping this thread.

The Kin EP is out next week. Here's Julia's blurb on it:

"This is not music you can ignore. The sheer power of Kin’s unique vocal attack is visceral, frightening and moving at the same time. When a voice like this comes along, you’d better listen because it’s going to tell you something about yourself, like it or not. Behind the vocals, the music is a powerhouse of depth-charge bass, slashing guitar, keyboards with no known ancestry and drums that grab you and throw you hard against a wall. You like it that way. Kin is leaving audiences open mouthed and shaken wherever she plays. Kin is making critics struggle for new superlatives. More an experience than a band, more poetry than pop, this is art you can dance to. This is catharsis you can sing. Kin. Hell."

Our old pal Bob "The Eccles Connection" Osborne will be playing them on his radio show next Tuesday 9-10pm on Salford City Radio. And there's an EP launch party at the Kings Arms in Salford on Saturday 28th - info here.

Julia has also added some new photos to her Fall archives page - http://www.invisiblegirl.co.uk/archive/1995.html - including one of a very young Ms Poulou (December 1995) and MES looking rather smooth in a suit and tie outside the New York Courts in 1998.

matheusvdd - November 20, 2009 03:51 AM (GMT)
WOW OH!
I didn't know Elena was already a member of fall history back in 1995? What did she do?

I like the photo with Mark's lawyer, the guy looks like a wrestler.

aerskine - November 20, 2009 08:26 AM (GMT)
..and 'blue sleeve for Powderkeg single' - did this ever exist?

Mark looked very dapper outside the court, carry bag and all.

Tom Head looks a bit of a bastard. :o

I think the Derby gig in the photo was at The Victoria Inn, just opposite the station.Went into the superb Brunswick pub just a few yards away, all the 'lads' from the band were in and cracking jokes with the locals.

The gig itself was in a very narrow back room of the pub. I remember Tom Head sitting outside the dressing room door, like a little lad waiting for his parents to come out of the pub. You could buy AYAMW at the gig before it had hit the shops, no doubt to raise some much needed cash. The gig was good, and certainly 'intimate'.

KIN has just done a radio session for Salford City Radio (Bob Osbornes Show 'Reformation' show), will be broadcast this Tuesday at 9pm.. listen online http://bit.ly/82iANt
Will put the final batch of Fall archive photos up soon :girly:

I think I was on 'minding the gear' duty as usual, hence not being at the pub.. I do have a pic of Mark riding a childs bike round the venue which is quite funny, might include that next time. Have vague recollections of a roadie copping for some jip off MES (relating to the beer spill on his shirt). Also, running through new tunes for The Unutterable in the cupboard of a dressing room and recall the dressing room door being bashed in too, because it was locked when we came off stage.. we were stuck in the midst of an enthusiastic audience

Edit : AYAMW was for sale at a second Fall gig at the Victioria, in 2001. Otherwise, the account is 100% accurate :)
