Its a great LP, but can't remember which is best, so I voted for Voxish, because it sso clearly a WIP at the time, which is interesting.

Is everyone getting bored with polls? If so, I'll stop doing them. Number of votes is getting a bit sad.

Listen out for a bit on Backdrop, when – about four and a half minutes in – Mark says "Ha ha. Ha-ha-ha-ha! YOU wouldn't laugh!"
Quite chilling in its own way.

That line goes thru my head whenever I get angry at someone. It has become a sort of archetype or something.

I've just voted...don't know why I didn't do so before, And Backdrop has my support!
Stephen - July 16, 2004 02:27 PM (GMT)
In A Hole version is the definitive one though.

Just listened to this for the first time in ages, and that line from Backdrop struck me too.
Excellent live album all round, and difficult to pick a favourite track, it just works so well as a whole performance. :applaud:

There really must be something special about Iceland. The September 1981 performance, the Hex sessions and then this one. My favourite officially released Fall gig together with In A Hole. Technically this recording captures Steve Hanley's bass extremely well.
I have nothing against Marc Riley or Brix, but I wish this line-up would have lasted longer.
Yet another Backdrop vote. The liner notes state that Mark's keyboards are either a triumph of attitude over technique or a ham-fisted aside to the main action of the song. I tend towards the former option.

Tempo House, Look, Know or Backdrop...can't decide.

Seems like you have to go with Backdrop as it's brilliant and it's really represented here more than anywhere. Backdrop rules the day.

Wasn't alcohol illegal in Iceland at the time?

Maybe it would be a propitious time for recording another album in Iceland. Alcohol surely isn't illegal now, but pound sterling should be worth more than ever over there.

OK, put it on again. Am with the majority. ;)

Kicker
Tempo is also top but bettered by New York, for me.

It's all excellent of course and Backdrop is immense but I've gone for Eat Y'Self Fitter which contains the champgne moment for me.
Mark sings "An easy rider coat.........(pause)......an easy rider coot grabbed the edge of my coat."

Tempo House.
I'm boring myself voting for this song but I have to because it's Tempo House.

Received this today courtesy of a kind FOF'er.
The whole thing is wonderful. The clarity and power of the drums is the thing here and that's why, afer listening to this 3 times and counting, I've gone for Kicker Conspiracy.
I reckon this album is the best recorded representation of the 2 drum, early 80's line-up, including the studio albums, and on Kicker, it enters the realms of the scary.
The rest of it isn't far behind though :D
Play loud
I'd say essential.

And I would agree :applaud:
Got some bootlegs from the same time period knocking around (I think - Gave loads away lately) and they were on form, but this is the only one you really need.
The sound quality alone makes the others redundant and the performance here is the stuff of legend.
