Saw this on dvd recently - charming, upsetting, but uplifting in a way.

My favourite scene was the little kid acting out scenes from Napoloen Dynamite to impress his big brother. Child actors doing improv, fantastic.

I must say what I find unsettling is Mr Van Sant's 'predilection' for teenage/youth - oriented matter, something I somehow find less than savoury. And the way this film advocates suicide (in the Cobain vein, obviously) I find repulsive. Gus van Sant, your eclectic tastes nothwithstanding, with all due respect...can you just fuck off, please.

I agree about the unsavoury fascination mit Junglings.

I DON'T think that Herr Van Sant tried to advocate suicide or romanticize Kurdt Kobain's death.

And don't forget - dj hollerbusch - he's still up to it -
Tried to destroy me -
He's in collusion with Völlïg Tötäll

Gus Van Sant is the bees knees. I can't remember him having any kind of creepy fondness for anything other than boys who were obviously over-age.

ryaneno - September 23, 2009 11:04 PM (GMT)
Sorry, confused him with Larry Clark...

Van Sant is fine especially compared to that mentalist Larry Clark
Clarks far worse for that, i love the film Kids cause its all right on by me and i do have a liking towards Harmony Korine. It makes me wonder how good Clark is seeing as he directed it and it was his basic idea for a film but he needed Korine to write it and after Clark has made shite films making himself look like more of a prick than people thought he was and Korine has made amazing films that he wrote and directed.
Managed to take his fair share of drugs in that time too

Am not even mentioning Clarks short for the Destricted dvd, just fucking dumb, stupid shite

Paranoid Park is good, i liked it, i wanna see Gerry though
