Title: Heavy Metal Bands
scratch - September 16, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
I tried to set this up so that you can pick yor 5 faves, but it probably won't work.
If you pick "Other", say who it is, please.
scratch - September 16, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
Hey, it worked, it let me pick 5.
Maiden
Slayer
Kiss
Venom
Celtic Frost
GraemeLovesPinkLady - September 16, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
Just picked my 5: Black Sabbath and four other pretenders :)
elvischomsky - September 16, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
ACFUCKINGDC, KISS, Sabbath, Priest, Motorhead, Purple (? Where are they)
Selected tracks from each, but when they rocked, they fucking ROCKED!!!!!!!
elvischomsky - September 16, 2008 06:15 PM (GMT)
Hang on...
You missed off ACFUCKINGDC!!!!!!!!!!
twinz2z - September 16, 2008 06:34 PM (GMT)
I was going to vote for motley crew but couldnt decide which of the two motley crews to vot for.
All the heavy metal action I need is found on the Brilliant Fall Heads Roll album.
Use to listen to a bit of black sabbath and Judas priest back in the day

:applaud:
I don't listen to Heavy Metal at all. The little I have heard doesn't really do anything for me.
I voted Sabbath, though...a couple of good songs (that someone played me on the song-chain thing...)

| system of a down |
you didn't vote for them
stuartjewkes - September 16, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
Went for Sabbath, Metallica, Motorhead, Napalm Death and Other. All the actual picks are very conditional though. I don't think there is a metal band out there that I like consistently, it's usually a few albums.
Metallica - Kill Em All, Justice, Ride The Lightning
Sabbath - Early stuff
Napalm Death - Scum
Motorhead - We are the road crew, ya bastards.
Bugger, didn't see System Of A Down! First album is sublime.
If we are ignoring the irritating sub genre shite:
Carcass - Necrotism: Descanting The Insalubrious (probably got the title wrong!)
Entombed - To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes
I'll add more at some point.
Brickah Chipah - September 16, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Voted for Motorhead and Other (Meshuggah). Could have gone for System of a Down or Black Sabbath for their good stuff, but with each of those I dislike more of the music than I like.
bradx - September 16, 2008 08:00 PM (GMT)
Not a great metal fan per se...I like 80s US hardcore... and elements of HM in bands like Boredoms/ Earth.... erm.... Naked City were good. Napalm Death. Megadeth... I had an album years back ... had good guitar solos on it. I'd like to hear a metal album with vicious tape edits/ treated vocals / chaotic fx / science fiction lyrics ... etc.... oh.. that is Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves.... that is like metal at points. Are there any more up to date metal bands... doing.... stuff like that? I wonder.
Mopiranger - September 16, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
slayer, black sabbath, death, venom & napalm death
in personal chronological order:
napalm death - for sheer aggression, but i was disappointed with harmony corruption and everything that came after.
death - for ultimately, all things considered being the best death metal band
slayer - for reign in blood and that semi-slow one
venom - for all the wrong reasons
black sabbath - for their earliest albums up to and including the excellent Sabotage.
Discovering black sabbath largely closed my metal explorations, since I somehow realized they had everything covered. Lots of bands in this list bring back fond memories though.
I never found any real use for judas priest or iron maiden or any of that NWOBHM stuff, i listened to american hardcore or death metal instead. That said, I don't despise NWBOHM either.
Pantera on the other hand ("ooh the agggresion!", "the special power chords") - what a tub of wankers!! Their first album made me see through their posing pansy asses and Exhorder did it first fifty times better. I also hate ACDC and Manowar with a vengeance so I'm mighty glad they're not even on here :applaud: , but i might have picked Deep Purple if it was.
Mopiranger - September 16, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
I'm also glad the whole pre-nu-metal, rap-hardcore-metal crossover garbage is forgotten. now for the world to forget nu metal.

Well... in a way.

While I'm thinking about this, do Neurosis count? Isis? Earth? Om?
rainmaster - September 16, 2008 08:37 PM (GMT)
Voted for Motorhead, before realising I had five votes! :grrr:
But, the again I hate Metal, so I doubt I'd use all five votes anyway!
Kapitän - September 16, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
Maiden
Metallica
Slayer
Motörhead
Mayhem (allthough Satyricon or Darkthrone are my favourite Norwegian black metal bands)
Metal was more a teenage thing for me, still give it a listen once in a while.
elvischomsky - September 16, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
You don't like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYn5hxeFt10It's like Metal, but for, like, men.
Grrr!

After reading about these on here, I checked out some of their stuff and it's fucking great. Are they metal, though?
Yes, and before anyone starts, I know chrome is a metal...ha bloody ha... :D

First half: Excellent.
Second bit: Bit "Meh".
PeterL - September 16, 2008 10:00 PM (GMT)
I've voted for Judas Priest and Manowar.
I don't like their music - but, just for the way they dress.

Audrey Wetherspoon - September 16, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
In that case, I'll definitely have Neurosis as my favourite HM band. It used to be Celtic Frost*, right up until Through Silver in Blood, but after that Neurosis owned me and still do, even though Celtic Frost made a spirited attempt at wresting me back with Monotheist. Honourable runners-up, Isis, Aereogramme, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Cult of Luna, Pelican and Ufomammut.
Favourite DM band would be Death, with honourable mentions for Carcass and Deicide.
*Am I the only person who always mispronounces Celtic? I bet I am.
