Title: Wire: Spot The Cameo
Description: in the Eardrum Buzz video
Fritter - September 2, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
I've always been very fond of this song by Wire and especially the video, mainly for Bruce Gilbert's performance but also for the rather sweet 'celebrity' cameos - all genuine fans apart from Steve Martin (I'm guessing here). But can anyone identify the ones I've missed? They were probably quite well-known in 1989...
So far:
Vince Clarke
Andy Fletcher
Andy Partridge
Simon Raymonde & Robin Guthrie
Howard Devoto
Bjork
John Peel
Bernard Albrecht
that chap with the broken nose looks very familiar.
The Prize is a free Bruce Gilbert makeover :)

(bewigged) Michael Clark @ 1.33? (some crossover with Dome)
And Bernard Sumner @ 2.53?
elvischomsky - September 2, 2008 09:23 PM (GMT)
Cathal Coughlan 0.28
Sarah Jane Morris 0.45
Sir Michael Tippett - amazingly! 2.39
Bryan Adams - even more incongruously 2.40
Keith Allen - 2.54
Margi Clarke - 3.14
More after staring intently at freeze frame for an hour...

The one that's infuriating me is the fellow at 1.10 in.
Anyone?
Buy Kurious! - September 2, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Are some of them other Mute artists...?
elvischomsky - September 2, 2008 09:48 PM (GMT)
Most seem to be Mute/OLI Indie fellows, or felladies (to avoid the sexism charge).
I thought I spotted Gabi from DAF and Don Was, but now I'm not so sure.
Oh, this is infuriatingly good fun, thanks Fritter.

Dunno.
2.50 Martin Degville?
Do I get an extra point for James Dean at 0.00.
And doesn't the music go into Ghost at the end?

And Van Gogh just after... *boom boom* :D

Shake the room.
One of them has to be Daniel Miller, shirley?
"Another one that has ballooned..."

He has ballooned. :o
Jason Parkes (he of amazon? :o ) reckons (or asks, rather) if Nick Cave or Depeche Mode are in it. Neither, as far as I can see....
elvischomsky - September 2, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
There are two DPs I think...
Andy and Vince.
What have I told you about Googling? :devil2:

Soz. :ohdear:
It was really fucking bugging me, though. :D
PS - This isn't a quiz - I don't think Fritter knows, that's why he's asking...therefore google is permissable, shirley...non!?! -_-
elvischomsky - September 2, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
Well, I was tempted, but said "no".
You may have spoilt the magic, BK.
:cry2: :cry2: :cry2:
PS Although I would like this bugger solved afore I go to bed so feel free to carry on...

I'll have another watch...

This is a great song...but I'm getting f&*kin sick of it... :(
elvischomsky - September 2, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
It was nice, but they did better here, BK.

Right, I'm hitting ver sack too.
We've done our duty! -_-
elvischomsky - September 2, 2008 11:47 PM (GMT)
On reflection, it's not Cathal Coughlan, but a porky Vince Clarke.
Who is the ruddy broken nosed man????
Buy Kurious! - September 3, 2008 10:12 AM (GMT)
The broken nosed man looks familiar even to me,
and I don't recognise most of them.
Okays, I cheated like a rotten cheating cheater
and the other name I could come up with was Jello Biafra
I dunno what he looks like...so can't say whether he's in it or not, innit?
Is it, innit?
elvischomsky - September 3, 2008 10:39 AM (GMT)
Don't think Jello's in there.
Mr Broken Nose looks like a clip from Crimewatch/Crimwatch.
I so know the man with black hair, and I bet the man with his back turned is obvious, too.
Anyone?
elvischomsky - September 3, 2008 11:07 AM (GMT)
2.51 - a glimpse of Karl Burns-burning Jah Wobble!
Fritter - September 3, 2008 12:22 PM (GMT)
Er yeah, this isn't a quiz as such, it's for information really. So if Googling helps, google.
Good effort so far though. (that broken nose chap is really bugging me though!)
elvischomsky - September 3, 2008 12:33 PM (GMT)
Ah, is the man with his back turned Steven Morris?
Buy Kurious! - September 3, 2008 12:51 PM (GMT)
I don't think the broken nose one is a musician....
A writer...?
Fritter - September 3, 2008 12:54 PM (GMT)
No I think Steven Morris is between Bernard Sumner and Peel.
elvischomsky - September 3, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
Okay.
Time to bring in the big guns.
I've just emailed a friend who's a Mute obsessive.
We may beat this bicha...
rainmaster - September 3, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
I've had a few goes at this and it's doin' my fucking head in now! :grrr:
Have I seen Nick Cave at 2.35, Dudley Moore at 2.37, and Joe Cocker at 2.57?
Or am I a twat of the first order??
elvischomsky - September 3, 2008 04:23 PM (GMT)
NEWSFLASH!!!!!: Bloke with black greased hair... Alan Rankine????
Buy Kurious! - September 3, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
But no Billy Mackenzie?
The Spoiler - September 12, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
Barry Adamson at the end ?
Fritter - September 12, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, good one. Somehow I reckon Billy Mackenzie might have thought this sort of thing beneath him, and I doubt he was a Wire fan too.
