Title: The Fallen
Description: fave ex-member, you want to hear from?

Buy Kurious! - August 29, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
Okay, loads I've left out, but the major ones are there...
Which of the 50-odd ex-members do you want to hear from the most?

For me, besides the obvious Burns, Hanley + Scanlon...Kay Carroll.
Because she seems like the one who was most in-tune with MES' thinking about what the group was and should be. So it would be interesting to hear what she thinks about The Gruppe these days.

rainmaster - August 29, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
Yes, Karl Burns for me. He must have some revealing insight which we should be made aware of...

elvischomsky - August 29, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
Well, after reading The Fallen, the person that I came away finking; Blimey, I really underrated your contribution to The Fall sound, was Dave Bush.
Adrian Flanagan sounds like he'd be the most fun to go down the pub with.
There is also one of The Fallen whom - one might assume (reading between the lines etc etc) - is a top comedy gayer.
Much like myself, in fact.
Karl Burns? Oh, he's [ERROR ERROR CONTACT SERVER]

Is the "comedy gayer" Michael Clark? I've had my suspicions.
Even that Alan Pellay seemed a little "flamboyant", if you catch my drift...

Actually, I meant to add. For those who have read the book, who did you want to read about the most BEFOREHAND???
Hmmm?

Ruth. Surname eludes me. Plays keyboards on the Touch Sensitive DVD. Lovely smile.

I wonder what the criteria for ex-members was exactly?
Like, I think in some ways the people who do the sleeves and the IAKO ballet company and several other non-musicians are all part of The Fall, hence the "group" description as opposed to "a band"....

No. He was quite the ladies' man.
But you would, wouldn't you?
Even if he hadn't changed his pants.

YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, TOO?
Look, I'm 73. I can't be fussy.
But, in the mid-80s, yes, he could have beat out a rhythm on my drum any old time.
Him and Simon W.

PS Hello fellow FOF fellows - did I introduce you to the gutter before?
Gutter, meet FOF.
FOF, meet gutter.
Apologies.

He sells pants?
He doesn't sell pants?
He lives at the back of a pants shop?
He pants a lot?

That's her. She reminds me slightly of Kate Holmes out of Frazier Chorus.

SonofAlways - August 29, 2008 05:28 PM (GMT)
Lucy because she won't be in the forthcoming book.

Second choice would be Una. The Fates record is great.

(That would be a good poll btw--fave project by an ex-member).

Indeed, if you look at the sleeve for the new "collaberation", it reads "The Fall's Mark E Smith and Ed Blaney".

Or does that mean MES of The Fall, and Ed Blaney?

Buy Kurious! - August 29, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
Exactly!
And to me, Pascal Le Gras (say) has contributed more to The Fall than Jonnie Brown, for instance.
Suzanne Smith was a member of The Fall, as far as I'm concerned. -_-

...And so, BK, are all former members still on call to be used / reinstated by MES, at will, whenever he sees fit?

And don't forget, Burns was in and out of the gruppe for years, who's to say another reappearance is forthcoming... :o

:D

I was thinking the same thing.
Well, I think Burns, Hanley, Scanlon, Pritchard and the rest will probably never be back :( but I do think the "group" thing means that The Fall have always been more than just the musicians.
I'm fascinated by Kay Carroll and I think she was great. It'll be interesting to read her thoughts now.

rainmaster - August 29, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
I'll be interested to read ALL their thoughts - can't wait for a copy!

I don't want to give anything away, but that may - or may not be - a clue to the KB conundrum...

Hang on, KB / BK - I suspect a link here...

We thought he was a young artistic lad from London, when all along he was a curly haired middle aged Paddy masquerading as a Fall fan... :o

We should be told the truth... :D

I am half-paddy. :D
But I don't bang the drums...

I think, for different reasons, KB, Scanlon, S. Hanley and Kay Carroll are the main ones.
I doubt if the book will have any effect on the way I think of the Gruppe, though...

It will.
BK, it's amazing! Honestly.
It really tunes you into the not-so subtle shifts in said grupe's music.
Like the Dave Bush thingy.

Actually, I'm beginning to think you're right.
A friend of mine and prominent member of the new homo elite just read me a snippet over the phone:

Kenny Brady - "Mark said he wanted a fiddle on the next LP. I went to the studio and played some fiddle over a few tunes. What was shocking to the fans was the presence of a fiddle on a Fall LP. There had never been a fiddle on one before.
I played a few gigs with the group. Which went down surprisingly well, considering I was playing a fiddle.
Then Mark said he didn't need the fiddle anymore. And that was the end of that."

I can't wait!
