Title: Pop Quiz 13
Description: Unlucky for some...
elvischomsky - August 13, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
Ok, as with my last quiz, these are the answers, please supply the questions.
The questions to the respective numbers in Fritter's Pop Quiz 12 should give you clues and/or help steer you in the right direction.
Oh, and several of them are a bit morbid, apologies.
Enjoy!

10, I'm looking for an answer with more of a connection to the answer to Fritter's question 10. If that makes sense...

1. Who supported Marillion on the tour for their debut album?
(more unlikely but realistic question: Whom is Fish constantly emulating without artistic success?)
elvischomsky - August 14, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
Ok, clue time - if any of these seem too baffling, it may also be worth bearing in mind whose forum you're on...

final try for #1: Who suffered a heart attack before a planned collaboration with MES?
Fritter - August 14, 2008 10:29 AM (GMT)
GLPL's answer has jolted my memory:
7: What was the first thing Ralf Hutter said on regaining consciousness after a dreadful cycling accident?
elvischomsky - August 14, 2008 11:36 AM (GMT)
7. Correct Fritter! Though I realised after posting that, that he probably said it in German.
1. I can't give any more clues without practically giving this away, but you may want to re-read previous clues on here...

Name all the groups/artists elvischomsky has shared a taxi with?
5. A lamp falling over.
Something to do with Viv Stanshall - the fire (erm was this what killed him) - I dunno (oh, give me a point, elvis!)?
6. The last episode of The Monkees TV show.
Name the infamous US broadcast where Charles Baudelaire danced (the Dead Can) whilst smoking opium?
10. I Want To Live
This hasn't got anything to do with the Robert Wise film has it (no exclamation mark)?
What do I win?!
Oh, and what about a point for updating the unanswered questions...again?

1. Well, again, technically correct, but I'm looking for something more specific.
2. Would have thought someone would have got this one right away.
3. Getting there, but failed at the last hurdle.
4. Not even close. Think yellow cabs, not just any old taxi.
5. Correct. What was the cause of the fire at Viv Stanshall's flat that killed him (Many thought it was one of his roll-ups...)
6. No. It's a lovely thought, though.
10. It has to do with the Robert Wise fillum...

4. Going with the yellow cab clue and Fritter's "self-referential" question...did they all do songs that refer to New York or something/where in New York?

2 "Would you risk it for a biscuit?" was etched on Mozza's Beethoven Was Deaf. Care to have another try, BK?
4 Ignore self-referentiality.

or:
How did Charles Baudelaire get his big break into the world of TV comedy?
sorry, this is very tough.

Well done everyone.
Still waiting on complete answers - meaning questions here - for these.
The answers still needing questions are:
1. Peter Hammill
Clue: Marillion.
3. He was torn in two by a bull dyke.
Clue: Steely Dan.
4. Bad Brains, The Brattles, Dead Kennedys, The Equators, Funkapolitan, Grandmaster Flash, Lee Perry, and The Slits.
Clue: New York.
10. I Want To Live.
Clue: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
The general clues to these are often Fall or death related...
elvischomsky - August 15, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
I think it's fair to assume you've all given up on these ones, so the answers/questions to the unanswered questions/answers were...
1. Name the musical hero shared by Fish from Marillon and MES?
Peter Hammill.
3. In William Burroughs' The Naked Lunch what happened to Steely Dan 1?
"He was torn in two by a bull dyke."
4. The Fall played with The Clash just once, when they were one of the support acts at The Clash On Broadway residency at Bonds, Times Square, New York in June 1981. Can you name the other support acts?
Bad Brains, The Brattles, Dead Kennedys, The Equators, Funkapolitan, Grandmaster Flash, Lee Perry, and The Slits.
10. What film was Sergio Leone watching on TV when he died?
I Want To Live!
Thanks to all who took part.

No, it ruddy was not.
I endlessly gave clues pointing out that this was - hint hint - a fucking Fall forum, and that the other clue was that the answer to Fritter's Question 1 was Marillion.
JUDY!*
* I'm now trying to introduce this as an FOF exclamation, in place of the more traditional, "JESUS!"
For Judy G, and for Larry D.
It'll catch on, shirley?

Indeed. Apparently, with me now being an expert on this, The Selecter, The B-People (No, me neither...), The Belle Stars, Aswad and Theatre of Hate should have played, but were left stranded at the airport due to a strike. (The Fall were already touring the States).
So dame fate dealt the punters a really good hand there.
Oh, and Mr Allen Ginsberg came on stage to rap with ver Clash the night after The Fall.
Their song, Capitol Air, is on the Ginsberg boxset - tis amazing - and much better than ole Bill Burroughs attempt to do Punk.
Joe: "May I welcome, President Ginsberg..."
Allen: "I don't like the government where I live..."
