Title: Blindness Vs Tempo House
Description: One of them is an epic masterpiece...

:P

and the other is on Fall Heads Roll.

If were comparing the first(?) takes of tempo house,--a little quiet with weird harmonica blasts, then Blindness.
But if were talking Tempo House where the bassist digs out a groove 200 metre's subtterranean then it's no contest.

Reconstructed!

For those that enjoy covers, my 'version' of Blindness can be heard here. Maybe I'll have a go at Tempo House one day.

"Tempo House" was the highlight for me of the Venue gig in March/April 1983, but I was so disappointed by Perverted By Language that I've never regarded the Hacienda performance (or indeed any of the album's other songs) as definitive versions.

"Blindness", on the other hand, has never let me down. Every version of it, live or on record, appears to be remarkable.

killerpup - July 26, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Both of these songs seem like they would be 100x better live than on record. I've never seen teh Fall live "sniff" but even on YouTube videos you can tell how powerful Blindness is live. On record though, there's not much to Blindness--It does kick ass, but after five minutes you're wondering when it's going to end. Tempo House, though, always pleases, even on record and seems to be different every time.

Tempo House.

Exopsychicton - July 26, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
Tempo House, though it would be a dead tie but for the version of Blindness on FHR.

Hex En hour - July 27, 2008 10:15 AM (GMT)
Voted Blindness, Tempo is one of the few things from that period I feel uninterested in, its alright like, but just alright

Exactly. It's also just a bassline. Voted blindness.

Why is this poll Blindness Vs Tempo House?

Why not Blindness Vs Garden?

Or Backdrop, or Gross Chapel, or Reformation, or Spectre Vs Rector...

All are classics, but Blindness wins this one! :applaud:

Everybodys happy as their favorite is bound to win.

Oh, went with House Music in this one though.

I didn't say Blindness was better than Garden or SvR, just curious as to why Tempo House had been chosen when there are so many other "classics" in the vault!

And I then picked Blindness over Tempo in this particular poll.

Mr. Marshall - July 28, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
Blindness by a country mile. Tempo House lacks snap and is whiney. Now if it were Blindness vs Garden (Peel version), that would be a difficult one.

Kapitän - July 28, 2008 02:05 PM (GMT)
Blindness by some distance for me too...

R. Totale - July 29, 2008 01:00 AM (GMT)
My God, am I still fighting this battle? Blindness of course.. B)

FAT BLOB - July 29, 2008 09:55 AM (GMT)
I thought this topic was a joke when I read it. Tempo House of course! At least the version on PBL. Yea, it's just a bassline- but the delivery and lyrics get me every time. I often listen to it when I'm pissed, alongside Flipper. The drum fills are great too.

Blindness on the other hand...I never understand why people think this song song is so great. It's blocky, repetetive and boring and MES's delivery isn't very inspired. I do like when he mashes his fists on the keyboards sometimes during it.

Tempo House's rhythmic feel is so much more alive than Blindness...even if Blindness is more "driving". I'm sorry, but all I think of when I hear that damn song is a fucking SUV racing around. There's something to be said about being able to maintain the tension of the simple bass lurch of Tempo House. This was the band at hits height, no other band could pull that off.

well, OK, I really love this version of Blindness...plodding and creepy:

All Fall polls are deadly serious -

Mark E Smith Made Me Cry - August 19, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
Tempo House, because it was a definitive The Fall moment for me when I heard it for the first time, and alongside Eat Y'self Fitter was the start of my working backwards towards Witch Trials and realising just what fucking genius was going on with this strange mid 80s pop group I had discovered.

Gaz - August 19, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
It's a tough one... Very tough.

I say that after voting Tempo House without a second thought, oddly enough

Voted Tempo House in the old poll, I recall. Have heard a few more versions of Blindness since then. Tempo House is on my favourite Fall album, but I prefer it as an entity. Blindness gets my vote. The Peel version, the US version, Barcelona '07, Bloomberg Space - irresistible.

Christ, what a choice.

Tempo House is a collossus. Is it a myth that there is is studio version?

I was fortunate enough to witness the first live Blindness, Stourbridge.

Peel session version followed a couple of weeks later. RIP John.

Has to be Blindness in Johnny's book though, heard too many versions, mostly Consortium-wise. Cheers Hanley, i will buy you those beers eventually even though i thank you Dime-style.

PS - i discovered recently we have a mutual friend.

RepoMan - August 22, 2008 12:28 AM (GMT)
Blindness for me, by a long way.
