Title: Mark E Smith & Ed Blaney
Description: Transfusion b/w Mettle Claw

stuartjewkes - June 29, 2008 10:14 AM (GMT)
Just first impression now, nasty and plodding acoustic guitar riff with industrial-ish sheets of serated guitar filling everything. Mark ranting about speeding and never, never, never doing it again. Ends with a fade to feedback for about 1 min before some final dying guitar punctuations.

B-side starts with more acoustic guitar and water sounds, and actually sounds like a real song as done by a 'rock band'. Lyrics concern laughing at question of sport. Doesn't sound like The Fall and for that I am glad. Shame it's all over a little too soon though, I was half expecting it to kick up a gear and do somehting else but it just tapers out.

Worth the entrance fee.

Listened to this on the way home. I think it's bloody awful.

exiledmanc - June 29, 2008 11:14 AM (GMT)
I noticed it was on sale last night.£5 seemed expensive-especially after hearing the clip! I bought the Protein Xmas 4 track CD for£3 which is great. I may have been tempted at one point to buy any MES product, but not after listening to that Von Sudenfed shit.

Hey, you've just reminded me, I bought this, so I'll check it out now.

GraemeLovesPinkLady - July 1, 2008 12:17 PM (GMT)
I stopped listening to Candies to listen to this. Grr.

Well, track 1 sounds like any number of pretentious noise acts who you are supposed to like due to their lack of commercial potential. Interesting after a fashion I guess.

Track 2 has a tune at least. Well, a verse. The sound effects are the most engaging thing on it.

Not entirely for completists only, but I don't think anybody is missing out on anything. File alongside Hit The North part 6. The back cover sleeve is ace though.

What's the back cover? The front is THE WORST COVER I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.

I hope Ed Blaney has brought his "Bowie" influence to bear:

well the disc is a lovely black colour

ironically, transfusion is a bit of a car crash single. it's awful but you can't help looking at it.

The 2nd track is a good song, considering the unlikely couple playing it. The lyrics are almost earnest or sincere, something rarely found in Fall tracks. Its very short but it is still worth buying.

Theres an artical/interview with Ed about this is the Bury Times, you know. See if I can find it (hope it's not been bined) and type it up.

Married...

Nope, seriously, I'm just not online buddy :cry2:

Living near prestwich now, which reminds me - Has Marks Brother-in-law anything to do with the band? He drinks in the same place as me (as, apparently, does Smith) and I'm sure he mentioned something about being management, though I may be wrong as I was quite pissed. We started talking when he noted me requesting a Fall track on the jukebox (Victoria in case you were wondering. Limited selection).

Transfusion has been re-mixed with percussion and backbeats - sounds fantastic and is being played now on Salford City Radio.

Divvey - August 2, 2008 12:17 AM (GMT)
Payola??

dj hollerbusch - August 3, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
in fact this is really GOOD!
the whole track (transfusion) sounds as if it only bases on the noise parts of the original, i like it! On headphones you hear some interesting stuff like ambulance horns and more vocals in the back, distorted thru a telephone...

b-side sounds like something fall-ish of the "new formation sermon" era

thanx KM!

a la bowie - August 4, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
but where can the poor sods who weren't at the concert to buy it hear it ?

Is it still up on the radio site ?

Curiouser and Kuriouser...

SonofAlways - August 31, 2008 04:18 AM (GMT)
I agree with the DJ. This is excellent stuff.

Transfusion is what a cover should be--a complete overhaul, changing the context from driving fast cars to speed of a different sort. "Pop in the claret Barrett!"

Mettle Claw is an absolute gem. I think it's the best thing MES has released this year. Sublimely beautiful indeed. :)

¿The Question Mark? - August 31, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
Transfusion on the album i think is different to the single. It's been remixed with beats, very nice it is too.

josef - September 12, 2008 12:11 PM (GMT)
Luddite is on now, it's fantastic!!!! Headline track off the album imo!

josef - October 3, 2008 08:34 AM (GMT)
Has anyone recieved the second single from Voiceprint?

ocelot - October 3, 2008 09:07 AM (GMT)
No. I haven't had the second single.
However, the album's just popped through the letterbox.

I got the 2nd single yesterday. I'll get the LP now, but I was holding back because the 2nd single never appeared!

The Velvets cover is rather ace, a good 4 trk garage strum, with semi-randomly tickled cymblas in place of drums. Very good indeed.

The B side has a nice selection of lofi guitar sounds, but is basically terrible. It sounds a lot like Cast, rather sadly. I'm not a big fan of EB's voice, but I don't think it'd matter who sang this one, it's a duff vocal line, with sentimental "besht mate" lyrics.

Both sgls have been good enough together to buy the LP, I'd say.

josef - October 8, 2008 12:49 PM (GMT)
I got both the album and second single yesterday (ordered on Monday). Yeah Gappy, Real Good Time Together is very good indeed. It differs from the album version - no intro, just straight into the track. The arrangement is an aucoustic guitar overlayed by a sort of sonic fuzz / feedback which has been mixed together really well. No drums, but yes a smattering of cymbal which sounds rather nice. Ed Blaneys backing vox is good too. The album version of this track has a long 2 minute accoustic guitar intro, a repetative pluck, with the same sonic feedback as the single version. Second track, when we were young is a nice accoustic strum with some electric gutair effects, it's alot like trigger happy.

Listened to this for the first time today and apart from the top quality 2/3 filler tracks, I thought it was pretty damn Good.
A real innovative sound on some of it, and more of the same would be welcome.
I dont think its better than the Von Sudefed, but not worse either.
Stand out tracks on both of them.
I got the impression with Von-suds that MES was shouting along to the music, whereas here he talks along to it, creates a quite different vibe.
7 or 8 out of ten.
I shall definately be playing a few of these tracks over and over.

oops wrong thread-never mind.

stuhuggett - January 24, 2009 03:49 PM (GMT)
Got both singles off Voiceprint this week: my copy of Tranfusion is a CD-R (with the proper label and sleeve though), unlike the black Real Good Time Together disc (which has different sleeve art to the one on this site's Discography page).

Both singles numbered in the low hundreds, guess they're not selling that fast now the album's out?

Just played it again. Tis magic!!!!

MostDef - July 17, 2009 10:20 AM (GMT)
Uncanny. We heard this on a road trip 2 years ago. It was played as an obscure track with dubious merits. We turned to each other and thought/spoke: come on! MES cover for sure coming up
