Title: Ben Pritchard v Mark Riley
Hex En hour - June 17, 2008 12:07 AM (GMT)
So who are you going to buy a pint for?
elvischomsky - June 17, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
I voted for both - together, to talk about MES, then and more recently.
That could be an interesting conversation...

I swear it was an option when I voted!
Maybe it was by the power of magic or summit...

I voted both aswell, but I think it just registers the last vote...so I voted Riley!

Time for some disgusting namedropping. I did have a few pints with Marc Riley many years ago. (Mark Radcliffe and a mutual acquaintance of Riley's and mine were there too.) I can't talk like I know him or anything, but both of them were extremely nice, and had my friend and me laughing all night with their commentary on their US visit, and the band we'd seen that night. Months later when I answered my friend's phone and it was Riley, he seemed to remember me even better than I remember him. So I'm a Riley fan (plus, the Creepers records are excellent).

I've had a few drinks with Ben. Post gig stuff.
Top bloke.

Can't decide in this, so will abstain from voting. Both played vital parts during their respective times with the gruppe, and both should be applauded for this. :)

Voted Riley, but I would be more than happy to quaff a pint or three with Ben as well. Ben's tales of The Fall would probably depress me a bit. Anyway, Riley was a hero of mine during his time in The Fall and played on some of their greatest albums.

Riley, in case he remembered coming to my country, Ha, and because he strikes me as more loyal to The Fall as a group (I don't mean Mark, I mean the enthusiasm of The Fall as culturally important). Pritchard seems to me as not only a facet of some of their weakest material, but as a whiner with no vision of his own to contribute. At least Riley was dismissed for having his own vision. Pritchard was like a roadie off a reality show hired to play guitar for a bit, who fretted and shrugged a lot. No one wants to hear radical rock music from someone who reminds them of their English teacher.
Not me, anyway.

Both are friendly enough. Did chat to Riley in the eighties... he thinks he's dead witty. Which I found a bit annoying. But he is chattier than the equally friendly Ben. Still Ben is more himself , and not so much putting on the act that is Marc Riley [he can't help it].... so I'd prefer the company of Ben. Both of them probably saw me as a drunken idiot when we met...they're both wrong!

well I'd like to hear the stuff had pulled from the news page about the making of CoTC, so Ben on those grounds.
But Riley does make me laugh.

I think thats a very true statement, I voted Mr Riley for that reason really, shame he didn't get it at the time, lifes like that!! I thought they were kinda simular personalities, hence the poll, well that and being bored, no mates, working night shifts etc, by the way does anyone else get the feeling that Ben moarns the fact he is no longer in the fall
My Balloon - June 26, 2008 11:57 AM (GMT)
Only because of his age and experience it would be Riley as he would maybe have more to talk about. But Ben seems like a nice bloke so I'm easy.

Yeah it would be crap to repeat any of that stuff (I binned mine after reading it). Whoever it was that documented it quoted the ex-members without editorialising as I recall, and essentially there was little there worth knowing really.
What it amounts to for me over all is whther the music is any good. And the live vids I have seen with Pritchard in the band have been like rehearsals for a school play musically.
