Best of all is the intro to Birmingham School Of Business School. I'm not able to write it down, but you all know how it sounds anyway.

Neal Cassady - March 26, 2008 06:26 PM (GMT)
Eat Y'self Fitter / Like in Rekyjavik. Large proportion of which MES sounds like the crazy frog.

Fritter - March 26, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
I like "ter ter ter ter ter terr" on High Tension Line. Even tried to translate it in Morse Code.

Mopiranger - March 26, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
I like the trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *whup* i heard him do on some live versions of Fall Sound. It's probably the same as Kapitan's rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hip! and Hey! are motifs which have been used throughout The Fall's history, that's why I chose them.
Even He Pep! is a play on Hip! Hip!, and Hey! stretches from LATWT to the present....

I voted for Hey! As it's addictive and exhilirating, esp. in 'Touch Sensitive'....

stuartjewkes - March 26, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
I said it in the Von Sud thread but I bloody love the yameyameyemehh! In the Chicken track. Does that count? If not I'd say the 'whut meh' thing you get live.

Fritter - March 28, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
and that bit early on in Prole Art Threat where he goes "an brrrzap", that's my favourite bit of my favourite Fall song.

What about the perfectly timed 'Thk Thk' noises (that doesn't really work phonetically) on the peel version of Jawbone and the Air Rifle? (23 seconds in)

Buy Kurious! - March 29, 2008 01:20 PM (GMT)
I like the bit in He Pep! where he seems to forget the words and instead makes a long, unbroken sound which has all the characteristics of a sentence without actually having a single definable word anywhere within it.

Oh and the HA HA HA HA HA in 'DIY Meat'....

Oh and the HA HA HA HA HA in 'DIY Meat'....

The beginning of DYI Meat is f--kin' awesome. There's no other Fall song I have so much anticipation for at the start. But is he really saying HA HA HA? I always thought he was saying HEY! HEY! HEY! Then litening to both the album and Peel versions, it sounds like HIP! HIP! or maybe HEY! HIP! or HIP! HEY! Whatever it is. That's the money one.

And while were on the (sort of) subject what does Brix yell in He Pep! I love it (Brix can yell anything she wants and I'd love it--The best repeated yeller in music history) but it sounds like she's saying HUGH (HUE) PEP right? Is this some British thing I don't know about?

Highly important shit here.

This is like that little twerp at the end of the Chuck Jones Horton Hears A Who. YIP or YOP?

Aubrey The Cat - April 11, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)
Bloody good poll. I like whup, though I appreciate the reasons for narrowing it down to two.

When you get any of them as a count in - I can't remember titles, though there's a doozey on heads Roll - you can't help but grin - it's as much a signifier of The Fall as "Good evening, we are The Fall."

Billybigbananas - April 11, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Copped It is far from my favourite Fall track but I do like that first verse :

QUOTE
Said I ain't no millionaire
But I spent more money than one ever seen
I'm gonna change that scene one day
It's what you're supposed to say
Hey hey hey hey

Pollish Immigrant - April 11, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
i always liked the ROD bit... but the touch sensitive one i like the best.

marvell78 - April 12, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
brix chanting behind the main vocal line in kicker conspiracy

is that hey hey hey?

twinz2z - April 12, 2008 10:07 AM (GMT)
On K.B. live,
" er criticise this, hup hup,"

Mopiranger - May 5, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
There's a mindboggling snort/grunt combination in the beginning of alton towers. Amazing a human nose-throat combination can generate such a stomach churning sound.
In case you're wondering, I mean that grrrsnnrrrrttttsrrrtt - *pop* - ahhhhhhhhhhh part.

Daggerfall96 - May 22, 2008 03:08 PM (GMT)
Don't "Hmmmmmmm" Me, hey are you afraid?
Don't cornerstone my waking eye with hip and hoorays
I be writin since you and your kin were born, before
I don't haveta take this library sanctity no more

Straight as a die I stare you in the eyes
But your applets mean nothin 'hind cheap seat disguise
You can write it in your diary, on your mum-in-law's thighs
But you know you're sellin nothin, want your rhyme to this line?

Beggin for a middle eight that lifts you right up
But the only thing you ever did was raise a mug-pup

You've bought the road, now you have a photo
CONGRATS CONGRATS
before you go home
Don't skkiimmmmm me,
Don't try and fuckin win me
Your auntie is still waiting for you at the fuckin front door
You're still hanging to that neck tie it don't serve you no more

CONGRATS CONGRATS
I'm on my way home
They know where you're lying
Just hope you like that fat gnome

Way home.

(uhh, just wrote that as an imagined MES reply to the thread. No offence meant etc etc) It's a whacking good tune I made up for it. Try it at home :)

The best non-word MES sound in a Fall song is the very last sound on "Feeling Numb":

"The grist that curtails will make us strong
and you'll be dead before I'm born. PUH!"

I've always heard "You pep!"

"Pep" being an insult. "He pep"/"You pep"...

Didn't he make a similar sound at the end of Lay Of The Land?

Bit of a theme going on - perhaps it was the part of W&F that was supposed to be frightening?

I think 'Copped It's background vocals are very scary. And it's Gavin's finest moment: "It's not what you do, it's the way that you do it!" B)
