Title: Favorite Fall Genre
Description: Genre hooping fall

I hope I thought of all the relevant genres. I also hope this doesn't become a poll of the representative songs I chose -- this thing is supposed to be about genres, not particular songs.
I thought of the poll this morning from sort of a negative angle because pretty much all the Fall songs I dislike could be called the "Britpop" ones.
Some Fall songs, like "Winter" don't really fall into any genre. I was rempted to include a genre like "Fall" or "Beefheartian" to capture things "Dr. Buck's letter" or "Eat Y'self Fitter" or "Winter," but decided against that. This is supposed to be more about genres that the Fall did not substantially invent by themselves.
I chose country, and I wish the fall would do more country songs. I think they are quite good at it, sort of like how I think they are uniquely bad at Britpop.

There is nothing remotely polka-like about ride away.

Yeh, I meant to put "Squid Law" for that one.

I prefer the genre "The Fall" they've created by sounding unlike anyone else.

The magic of them is in the mix, but if there was one aspect I could point to, it would probably be the 'Scary thread' that runs through, for example, The 2 sinister notes on 'Reformation'. Or all of 'Spectre Vs rector'.
Jarring and discordant.

i went for post punk on the basis that it would include stuff like paintwork, my new house, get a hotel, mountain energy. is that how you see it ? identifying genres is always going to be subjective but an excellent idea for a poll!
still, i'd hate it if they were one trick ponies, even if in my favourite genre.

The Fall are a pop act, so I voted Plain Old Pop. C.r.e.e.p. is ace by the way, especially the 12" version.
Great idea for a poll!

To me, an overwhelming part of The Fall's appeal lies in the fact that they can't be pinned down. That makes it a bit beside the point for me to be choosing a genre.
Went for rockabilly though - a genre I don't give a shit about in general, but The Fall make it sound like the most radical stuff ever, and they come up with a very unique and fresh take on it.

I almost didn't put in post-punk because I don't see that as much as an identifiable, free standing genre as the others. My working definition of post-punk is: anything that sounds like it could have been on any Cure album, other than the first (which was guitar pop).

I went noise as although they have great stuff all around I am drawn to stuff like Fireworks and often pop cds in just to listen to the strange and wonderful mind of the man.
Could have gone for all of them really.
I suppose I would have prefered the term experimental to noise. The bits that suprise and jar, or just rattle your skull in a certain way.

Hooping *cough*?
:D
I voted plain old Pop too...C.R.E.E.P. is ace, plus most of my favourite Fall songs have Poppy elements, ie 'Touch Sensitive', "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey!"

Loving the sound of the banjo on the one track I've heard off "Imperial Wax Solvent" - I hope there is more banjo and other quirkiness this B.O.F. will have to eat his own words, which will be literally impossible considering I've wrote moanie stuff via E-mail. All hail the Smith

Post Punk is more of a category encompassing many genres. I think of it as music made with the same fuck you/no rules as punk but MUCH more musically diverse and experimental (and interesting). essentially ALL of the Falls music is post punk. The Cure is...I don't know what the Cure is. Theatrical pop post punk maybe?
My favorite genre though I'll have to make up. It's whatever Dktr. Faustus, Hotel Bloedel, He Pep!, and Don't Call Me Darling belong to. The Mark and Brix "duets". Killer.
