Title: Fall Cup 2008 - Bottom Three
Description: Your Predictions

snoweyuk - February 16, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
Select any three

Kapitän - February 16, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
Based on feeling, not level headed prediction - in no particular order:

Seminal Live
Shift-Work
Cerebral Caustic

RPTLC would be there if we were counting studio recordings only.

snoweyuk - February 16, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
I'm getting an error mesage when trying to vote, whether its one, two or three choices

SteveHamilton - February 16, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
Seminal Live, Middle Class Revolt and the third one is tricky - I'll go Cerebral Cowstick

This poll won't let me vote, regardless whether I try one, two or three options. Probably because there are no weak Fall albums at all. <_<

I would have chosen (not based on personal rating):
Seminal Live! (no "real" entry compared to the others)
Reformation Post TLC (extensively reviled over here last year)
Cerebral Caustic (often cited as the worst Fall album in various threads)

Other likely candidates would be Shift-Work, MCR and Levitate which seems to evoke both extreme positive and negative opinions.

twinz2z - February 17, 2008 12:27 PM (GMT)
I can only honestly choose one album, that I would insist on skipping tracks on.
And the machine wont let me vote for just one. never mind.

Exopsychicton - February 17, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Heads Roll, Caustic, Shift-Work. I'm guessing Seminal makes a surprise showing, but not too much of a surprise showing. I also predict that I am wrong.

Bit harder this. They had some klunkers in the 90's, did'nt they.

AYAMW
CC
MCR

Interim should qualify, and definitely be top 3 material.

Heads Roll,

Baffling! I prefer Heads Roll to PBL.. although there's nothing as good as Neighbourhood Of Infinity on Heads Roll.

More baffling news: cerebral caustic and shiftwork have 7 votes each. That was like a dagger thru my heart when I read that. I regard shiftwork as The Fall at their zenith. I just cant take it... :cry2:

never liked shiftwork <_< huge disappointment at the time

sorry :(

cerebral caustic, seminal live and shiftwork

RPTLC, Shift-Work, Cerebral Caustic. Not terrible, just the worst of this glorious lot.

Seminal Live deserves your deadbeat love. H.O.W., you ask? The stellar squidlike studio tracks alone make it better than the above 3 elpees combined. . . plus you get random live tunes thrown in at the end, including the great Elf Prefix. And dig the inexplicable intro to Cruisers Creek. You know the live tracks hit you in the head like a 2x4. A throwaway LP that's still brilliant.

RPTLC, Shift Work and Cerebral Caustic.
I think RPTLC could be bottom, 'fraid to say, despite having some great tracks it also has a fair portion of clangers.

Its not getting any easier. :( Especially when my fellow antipodeans desert the Shiftwork cause. :grrr:

For The Fall to produce such a mellow and polished album shows true diversity and talent, I think. The Fall purists dont like it coz its not messy and spontaneous like other Fall albums (especially the early ones), but it is a tour de force - in this house at least, and it has been that way for a surprisingly long time.

However, part of its appeal comes also from the fact that the purists dont like it - thats almost a good enuff reason alone, in my book. :P

Bernard_Albrecht - March 4, 2008 11:31 AM (GMT)
Maybe it's me misunderstanding the question, but isn't this vote about which Fall albums you think will be in the bottom 3, not which Fall albums you believe should be in the bottom 3?

1. Seminal - lots will vote against it in principle because it's half live
2. RPTLC - plenty have a real problem with this LP, I've noticed. Me, I think it's definitely sub-par, sort of CC territory, but it has its moments. Disapponting, but I don't hate it as many do.
3. CC - Just not that great. I would actually chose Shift Work here, but it has it's supporters.
