Title: The biggest UK town the Fall haven't played
moonie - October 14, 2007 10:36 PM (GMT)
I'd suggest my hometown of Halifax, population (Calderdale) about 200,000. They've played all the neighbouring towns, Hudds, Bradford, Leeds and even Wakefield, but never Halifax.
I once had a very scary conversation with an aggressive Kay Carrol in 1980 about the prospect of putting them on in Halifax but the money mentioned put me off.

Telford? That's a fair size place now.
In fact has anybody ever played Telford? Do they have any venues?
Where are the obligitory Telford Fall fans?

theres some real geeky cross referencing going on here, hats off.
But the litmus test for me is if ive been on a Sunday league tournament for a week as a teenager, staying in a caravan park, and The Fall have played there.
As Such, have they ever played Poole, Bournemouth, or Clacton on sea?

They did play Poole.
In the 1990, about March.
I have a memory for useless details for that. Can't remember the venue, even though I used to do record fairs there (hence part of the reason I noticed they did a gig there. I didn't go tho. Saw the Fall for the first time in '91...wish I'd seen them in 1990, as I think that was one of their better years for live shows. Ah well :( )

True. Forget about that Bournemouth gig - I was there too, good stuff, and unusual venue for the Fall.
I'm 99.999999% certain they've never played Winsor or Maidenhead.
They played Slough, think it would have been the centre on the Farnham Road, in '85.
Great year for Fall gigs then - but not for a mate who saw them and hated them. :D
That said he's seen them since (2002 onwards, 2-3 times) and loved them :)

Haydock the biggest (longest) village in the world......or so I was told when I was growing up........not quite a town but big none the less.........they've never played there. Could have a gig at the racecourse.
SimonC - October 18, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
The Fall are quite frequent visitors to Birmingham and Wolverhampton and have also played in Dudley, Coventry, Cannock and Stratford…but I can’t ever remember them playing in Walsall, which at around 170,000 souls (according to Wiki) is a pretty major town…mind you I’m not sure anyone ever plays in Walsall…

no, definitely haven't.
the US seems to think of bands as a singular entity (the fall is playing halifax...), whereas the UK treats them as collections of individuals (the fall are playing halifax... or are/were not in this case).

Wow The Fall at the Furnace. :o
My daughter goes there to see local bands.
John Ludicrous - October 20, 2007 09:36 PM (GMT)
Epsom is not especially big and the Fall won't have played there, but there was a time when it had 3 decent venues - Ebbisham Hall, The Baths Hall and Ewell Technical College - where the likes of David Bowie, Queen, Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster, Stackridge, Cockney Rebel, Hatfield and the North, Dr. Feelgood, Thin Lizzy (I think you get the era) all played at one time or another. Most of these groups not everyone's cup of tea on this forum I'm sure, but had any of these venues survived then I'm sure the Fall would have visited at least once.
It is a shame that so many of the towns listed in this thread don't seem to have the variety of venues that they used to have.
