Title: One word titled songs by The Fall
Description: Some of their best work

Hotel Amnesia - October 13, 2007 04:06 AM (GMT)
This isn't designed to create a boil over from the Fall Cup 2007 and get Blindness fans and Garden fans to ignite another war of words!!

There are some of The Fall's finest here interspersed with a few anomalies. I haven't included any hyphenated words or abbreviations but the following have been left off the poll:

Victoria
Entitled
Zandra
Calendar
Scareball
Antidote
Iceland
Italiano
Inevitable
Bound
Backdrop
Contraflow
Scenario

There may be a few more that I've left out that some of the more pedantic members may pick up on.

This should be interesting to watch.

Mohican Karl - October 13, 2007 06:59 AM (GMT)
Winter.
for a moment thought it may win the cup.

duckpin236 - October 13, 2007 03:32 PM (GMT)
I voted for "Garden" - have always loved that song. I also like, though can't explain why, "Bombast".

twinz2z - October 13, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
The title Smile, makes me want to know a bit more about what kind of smile it might be. Winter+Middlemass are both V,Good songs, but in view of the name for the american sex connection site, and the play upon that name,
"Craigness". got my vote.

IanMcC - October 13, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Usually Garden off the list, but Backdrop surely a contender.

Kapitän - October 13, 2007 08:35 PM (GMT)
Many of those are in my top 10...

Smile got the vote - with some very stiff competition from Wings, Blindness, Garden and Winter (and Backdrop had it been in the poll).
Also love Return, Bombast, Paintwork, Service and Ladybird...

Mere Pseud. - October 13, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
Paintwork for me because it's the most unique song among my all time faves besides New Puritan and C'n'C-S Mithering.

Glad there's only choice possible as I really couldn't decide what to put in second or third place.

The left off songs also include several often unjustly overlooked numbers that would make it to the upper regions of my personal ranking:
Entitled
Calendar
Iceland
Inevitable
Scenario

Faust Banana - November 14, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
I'll give my tentative top five (no order):

Barmy
Service
Scenario
Bombast
Contraflow

Jim Kidder - November 15, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
Garden. It would have been a fine recipient for Fall Cup 2007, even though I voted Leave The Capitol this time for the usual obscure and indefensible reasons.

Pat McGatt - November 15, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
Wings
Because it's a lovely song

Dice Man - November 15, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Winter. Esp. for the version on A Part Of America Therein, but in any case a long time fave. There are many other gems (Service!) on the list as well, I'd better stop tearing my hair...

Dice Man Seems quiet these days

Busy Busy?

I really do love Serum. Rainmaster and Mansion would complete my own top three.

Cheers Snowey, and thank you for asking. Well, you're right - but I don't want to complain. I'll always come out of the underwood when I see Winter and Service mentioned (oh, and all the others).

Dice Man - November 15, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
Did not even mention Twister and Hostile from the list. A shame it is. And I really like Scareball. And Iceland.

twinz2z - November 16, 2007 01:55 PM (GMT)
Make sure you check out Im into CB,s myspace for early versions of Winter and Middlemass, both with a slightly higher vocal and played faster, Fucking Magic. no lesser words, I feel like ive taken a line after listening sometimes.
Also 1 word good tracks,
Scareball,
Serum,
Shiftwork,
Letter T, later,

Smudger - November 16, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
WINGS.

I also like, though can't explain why, "Bombast".

Because it is one of the most powerful head banging clangers in the history of rock and roll, with the greatest opening lines as well? I can't listen to it without wanting to throw myself, or someone, into something. Got my vote, though only by an eyelash over too many others. Great poll.

MoogleFan - March 18, 2008 05:39 AM (GMT)
"Wings", by far.

"Day by day, the moon...gains on me..."

me and me housetramp - March 23, 2008 12:10 PM (GMT)
Wings
Wings
Wings

"We shoot dead a stupid seargent..."

REX - March 23, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
"Wings."

You should have alphabetized the choices... there have may have been something worthwhile further down the list but I stopped when I got to "Wings."

stuartjewkes - March 23, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
I went Middlemass but an arbitrary choice really. So many, especially Backdrop and Twister.

imaglasgowmanmyself - April 15, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)

Really???

Fritter - April 20, 2008 05:40 PM (GMT)
Voted Winter - at the moment I want this played at my wedding or funeral, whichever comes first. But have been recently loving Bombast and the Peel session versions of Spinetrak and Smile.

imaglasgowmanmyself - May 1, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
instantly thought kimble

Rowche Rumblers - October 17, 2009 03:13 AM (GMT)
Wow, never knew there were so many one word songs, first person to vote for Twister, :) though Entitled was not on the list and may have gotten my vote, Frenz also would have been a good choice, is there a poll with the best songs with 4+ vowels?

flickeringlexicon - October 17, 2009 03:14 AM (GMT)
I would have voted Entitled, had it been there. :(

Völlïg Tötäll - October 17, 2009 06:25 AM (GMT)
Barmy, 'cause that's how i feel most of the time.

But, Winter is here, and i'm still hoping for a Reformation, despite being catholic. :(

ryaneno - October 17, 2009 03:05 PM (GMT)
Repetition, the whole Fall approach resumed...

rainmaster - October 17, 2009 07:42 PM (GMT)
Just the one choice, then? :(

rainmaster - October 17, 2009 08:58 PM (GMT)
Frightened
Wings
Garden
Smile
Blindness
Reformation

In no particular order. Voted 'Blindness' to keep it in touch with the other classics.

delmore - October 18, 2009 04:37 AM (GMT)
'Cause someone's always on my tracks-ah.

otherdave - October 19, 2009 01:19 AM (GMT)
Has to be Frightened, followed by Wings, Repetition, Middlemass...

What, no Devolute, Youwanner or Birthday? :o
